- I've decided to get the sign writing only van redone so in this video I show you how I removed the vinyl decal/stickers, then I try a few different methods of removing the sticky residue and ghost marks left by the old stickers.
I don't know if any of the methods used in this video will damage your paint so take no responsibility for any damage done. this isn't a how to video but what I did to my own vehicle. if you decide to try any of the methods I used always do a test patch first.
Used a rubber eraser wheel for the lettering and a heat gun for the image decals which worked really well now to try the glue remover......
Ive done another vane since and I used a wallpaper steamer and tar and sticker remover which worked really well.
@@squeakycleandave1 what brand Dave did you use please?
Pictures of your best finished jobs...!!!
My sign guy printed a banner collage for me on heavy vinyl that has UV protective layer. My sign shop coached me how to wet apply my photo banner. I used a urethane hand roller to roll the pure water out from under the vinyl once I had the vinyl where I wanted it. The paint must be very clean first. Wash good, then wipe down very good with isopropyl alcohol and white terry clothes till no soil shows on white terry cloths.
Great advice thanks. I’m going to get my buddy who valets car to give it a good clean and buff before it gets done then I will get the sign company to apply signs for me 👍
Yes, pictures. Videos of work, make shorts on the job. Make it all informative and you will be over 6 months backed up locally to your town! Seriously, social media is everything. Find your favorite neighborhoods and join the groups. Next door is key, my company that I'm gm for is number 1 out of 178 paint companies on a lake called lake Conroe. We get so much business just from that.
Ok forget how this guy is doing this in this video. I started doing it this way and decided to try my wagner steamer. That's how you should be doing this. Brush attachment with hot steam softens perfectly for easy removal (no sticky residue left behind) I hope I just saved some one some time.
Is that the type that gets wall paper off mate as I was thinking of doing that 💯👍🏼
@@monitor4728 you may be able to use that if you already own it. but mine is meant for car detailing.
You need panel wipe from your local car paint accessory shop, worked really well on the vinyl residue on my van 👍🏻
Thanks Julian 👍
White spirit moves it off with ease after you use the heat gun, douse a sponge with white spirit , let it soak for 15 mins, then go over it again an it will come off easy
(Exterior Squeaky Clean Services’s )sounds good for your new logo. 👍💪😁
Thanks Marc 👍
I use a product called Citrol degreaser dissolves adhesive Don't know if available inUK
Paint thinner!!! 🤦🤦🤦 literally will remove it and not effect the paint or finish at all. Just use a water rag behind it if you are scared it will ruin your paint. Seriously! 😢😢 Edit: great video though, thank you for taking the time and effort to make this.. it will help so many people!!
Is there a video on that?
Tar and glue remover would be better Dave. Just got my newer van last week and in the same situation what way to go with sign writing. From Richard
Thanks Richard great advice 👍
Great help to take the stickers off.
I tried nail varnish removal, didn't take the paint off.
Use a caramel wheel attached to your drill.
Vinyl and glue gets pulled off in one.
It’s the only way to do it
Wall paper steamer job done no damage heat gun can burn paint an to remove glue use a body filler plastic spreader an prep tone
Great advice. Thanks John👍
Maybe a batterie buffer with a fine scrubber with Wd 40 may have been a good option.,, I would have a semi skin wrap with a window cleaner or Private home cleaning
Thanks John 👍
Thank you
I'm probably going to use rubbing alcohol too it is a solvent
A wall paper steamer works really well
Sorry that you didn't ask me first. If you've tried white spirit you would have save all your hard work. Nothing works better in removing the residue. Try it and you will remember where you read this!
I’ve done another van since and bought some tar and sticker remover which works really well
@@squeakycleandave1 But white spirit is cheaper 😁
Cream cleaner is a mild abrasive, so will dull your paint or worse.
😂😂😂😂rename every method under the sun to not remove lettering toffee wheel tar and glue done lmfaoooooo this was a cracking laugh though 😂
Don't use abrasive creams. Petrol, isopropyl alcohol
Tar and glue remover, that is what i use. quick spray and wipe and its gone
Paint thinners is the best
I feel the best way to remove stickers is two sons and two 20quid notes.
Well......, gets one side done maybe before they naff off to play football.
🤣
White spirit… will remove the glue residue
I used a polish fella on my van for £50 while had a pint.
That sounds like the best way to me 👍
Did you finish the job off dave lol
Yes, mate. I got some sticker remover. Hopefully getting the van wrapped next month
Maybe a photo of a before and after driveway or roof on back along with company name, mobile. List services with other info on sides. Looking forward to seeing new design.
Thanks Ched 👍
Tar and glue remover to get that sticker off bud.
I’ve still got the back doors to do so might try that. Thanks for the tip👍
💯
@@squeakycleandave1 let it soak in a bit on the glue dave by dabing it with cloth soaked with glue and tar remover and then rub off with another. Do a little bit at a time.
@@Shiny-boy thanks for that. It will save a lot of scrubbing 👍
I echo these words. I'm an ex-ford main dealer valetter. There I used autoglym tar and glue remover. Since then I've gone on to Tar-Dah from Amazon. So so easy. Wipe on, wait, wipe off 😁
I just had a QR code put in mine which when scanned will take ppl direct to my website. Just an idea
Fantastic idea. Thanks Ross👍
Why wouldnt you just "Tar and Glue Remover" Spray it on wait 10 mins then wipe it off and then you dont mess up your paint work.
👍
I allways clean off the tacky backing with petrol on a rag
I found this works quickly and doesn't leave any residue. Sounds crazy, but it works. Used to be a cheap option before the price shot up!
Thanks Matt. Great advice 👍
I hear a wallpaper steamer is the ticket .
That's what I have used since and it is much better.
WD40 works great. Doesn’t hurt paint job
Nail polish remover is effortless. But do ask ya wife first 😂
🤣🤣🤣
Tar Remover shoud work the best ..
Ive got some to do the rest with 👍
Thanks for the tips!
Wall paper steamer isthe best
I done another couple of vans since and used a wall paper stripper on both of them
Spell the website correctly this time 😀
Using a different sign written this time
Tar and glue remover is so easy 🤪
I’m going to give that a go on the back doors 👍
Paint thinners to take the glue off best I found
Thanks Russ 👍
Petrol
Abrasive pad 😳😳
0000 steele wool
Petrol mate
I got some tar and sticker remover in the end
Did NOT try different methods for vinyl removal!!! Only 1 = heat gun. Rest was about residue. Wasted time and bs title
Glue and tar remover would get this off instantly. Then polish will take the rest off. Generally shit it when you said cream cleaner. Poor paint👀🥲
Thanks for the advice 👍
