Facts. Your points have been echoed by Teddy and TheTimeTeller, and Nico Leonard and im so thankful for all of you. I recently got my grail watch (Hamilton khaki field auto) and i love it just as much as my old Timex Expedition. Every watch in ones collection should tell a story and have a moment tied to it. If you wanna buy to collect and resell thats fine too, but i have yet to see a watch youtuber who's personal collection follows that idea.

Great POV. My only caveat is on #2. What you described is a serial collector. Actively experiencing multiple items over time. So you dont have to possess multiple units at once of a thing to be a collector, I suppose. On the other hand, you can be an enthusiast, admirer, consumer, aficionado. But by definition, owning one watch, primarily for utilitarian purpose, does not make one a collector. I’m a car enthusiast, but I own one car at a time. I don’t consider myself a collector. Cheers

I also have to respectfully disagree with point number 2. Being a collector is about having a collection(at least 2). You can totally be a watch enthusiast and not own a single watch which I think is what you were getting at.

      @WristUnwound  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

  • @cd1sm

Couldn’t agree more about quartz and water resistance. Those are two of my biggest pet peeves from watch collectors. Especially when you consider the super accurate quartz movements from citizen, literally running +/-1 second per year, or multiband 6 from g shock. That’s literally the definition of innovation in horology. I like the connection i feel to my mechanical watches, but that doesn’t mean quartz can’t be cool as hell.

Unless its ISO Certified (which is rare) 100m water resist, or 10ATM, does not mean it can go to 100 metres depth. It represents the atmospheric pressure it can withstand. 100m is the minimum requirement if you want to go swimming in a deep pool, snorkel or light scuba dive (5m-10m or so). 50m Water Resistance is ok for surface swimming only.
Don't forget, warm or hot water expands the metal, reducing the water resistance straight away!

99% of the time 50m is enough.

Totally agree, I've yet to have a sporadic swimming escapade where I couldn't take of my watch or needed to tell time in the pool. Thanks for commenting!

quartz watches don’t have soul. You can have swatches or Casio for everyday wear, but your collection should consist from mechanical watches.

Why do you feel that way about quartz? What if its a luxury Quartz such as GS or Rolex?

    • @ForumWarrior-q8x

@@WristUnwound Good question. GS has ultra-durable quartz with a lifespan of over 50 years. For me, the main idea of a watch is to attach old memories to an object and pass them on to your children. Unrepairable quartz doesn’t work for this, but GS quartz is the only exception I know of.

Did you know that Rolex actually produced a quartz watch? One of the variations was the Rolex Oyster Quartz Day Date. Not sure if many people know about it so it could make a really cool video one day

One watch collection is an oxymoron term. Collection measure than one.

What if that person only holds one watch at a time, does that change your view point? or if some one trades all their watches to get to one watch do they cease to be a collector?

look at it this way. One can't say i have an art collection if he has only one piece of painting. It takes at least two to call it collection any given time.

I’ve seen this argument so many times it’s frustrating, because it comes across as looking down upon those with only one watch. The problem is the word ‘collector’.
So let’s all just change the word, and talk about us as watch appreciators or watch aficionados. That way…who cares how many watches that person has, the main thing is they love watches!
(Or let’s all just chill, not get caught up with semantics, and have fun in the watch community)

@azy5866 I didn't mean any disrespect. The term was coined by some youtubers and now everyone is using it. If I have offended anyone, I apologise to all.

@@j.t1682 Sorry, and I didn’t mean to put it on you either! Was more complaining about the wider community about this topic (and just so happened to stumble on this comment).
I don’t think you offended anyone, and I respect that you didn’t mean any harm either. I’m sorry if I overreacted too!
I’m just mindful that lots of watch lovers aren’t able to buy multiple watches, or even consider $100s on a single watch. But they still love watches and that’s great! We just get so much noise from the inner watch circle or social media that says we need to get high end, or we need multiple watches - but a lot of that is basically watch industry marketing.
Thanks for replying and clarifying, and keep going and loving the hobby!
