Breaking Bad Habits in Your Life (Part 2) - Debra Fileta

  • In part 2, Debra examines our thought life and how easy it is for our brains to follow the path of least resistance. So we need to be more intentional about “taking every thought captive.” Debra then discusses why we need to see our emotions as signals, but not necessarily truth. She describes how a near-death experience made her physiologically fearful every time she got a little sick, so she needed to learn how to control her emotions. Debra concludes with the importance of self-care, which she identifies as “soul-care.”

Oh I like it! SOUL-CARE!!! Sounds much less selfish and narcissistic and not at all like the "love yourself" movement of some contemporary "churches" that everyone who is a Christian kind of runs away from! Thank you so much for that phrase!!! Because I always hated myself and I was pretty sure Jesus didn't want me feeling that way about my neighbors, which I didn't, I was everybody's best friend except myself and I think a lot of people are like that. I was like Madeline. I felt in order to be worth anything I had to do for others but not myself. Oh thank you again for this video!!

"Own your own thoughts...taking our thoughts captive to obey Christ". ~ 2 Corinthians 2:5
"Emotions aren't a sin but a signal...A feeling is real, it isn't always true". That's a helpful piece of information.

This was better for me than the first part. I loved learning about the Amygdala in our brains! I have had so much trauma in my past, that the trauma responses that I have (thank God they are so much less now!) Have been explained and how to understand that it's just a response and my attitude towards that needs to be Christ like 🙌🏻 thank you Focus for this content!

1 time in the scripture we are given an ABOVE ALL ELSE suggestion. Above ALL else means ABOVE A LL ELSE, Guard your heart for its the wellspring of life. Proverbs 4:23
The wellbeing crisis exists because this has been neglected by many in the church and outside. An emotional constipation crisis. 😝 Left the people doing, doing and doing to look and act right but the inside they didn't get clean.
First clean the inside of the cuo THEN the outside will be clean.
This is and has always been biblical priority when it's practiced people are more effective at love, which is our only law.
Quite essential to get right as a Christian.
