  • Dr. Mike Bechtle wants to help people communicate better, especially in our social media world where everybody is talking all at once and nobody is listening. Mike explains we need “more weight” or value to our communication in order to be heard, and he talks about how we can use emotion in positive ways to energize our conversations. But our attitude is important - instead of reacting to what others say, we need to more proactive and intentional in our communication. Mike shares the definition of “confront” - to face or deal with a problem or difficult situation. The goal is to grow and strengthen our relationships, not attack or argue. Mike also discusses temperaments - how introverts and extroverts communicate differently, and why it’s a bad idea to try to “fix” the other person.

Introverts listen, reflect, and learn about, study the person they are interacting with, so they know how to give their message that in a way that it will be received, or not give it at all at that time and just listen. Wisdom right there. Extroverts dont cater their speech to the listener and just talk their mind, try to help, not even assessing first if the person needs or wants help. A socially experienced, confident introvert is society's blessing. I'm still working on what the extrovert offers. I hope to come back here with insight about the extrovert. I need more data and thought first.

I post interviews with 3 questions, always the same questions (my topic is politics as its the most sensitive and I am searching for non-confrontational approaches that do not spark outrage) and I have found that the greatest answers come from off-line communication. IN PERSON is the best form. There is greater civility then.

This generation doesn’t talk anymore…always texting. I don’t think this is healthy communication.

I agree. Younger people l, under 40, are too quiet in person. They ignore their surroundings.
