- Although I've owned this mixer for about 25 years I never used it for much other than a decoration for my retro kitchen. My wife on the other hand has begun to use it a lot over the last five years, preferring it over the more modern Kitchen Aid type. She noticed that the power cord was beginning to crack and asked if I could fix it. Let's get busy! #Sunbeam #mixmaster #appliances #appliancerepair

I think if you rotate the handle it will release the beaters.
Awesome info! Thanks. I think you made my wife's day. Now she won't need to ask me to disengage them.
It's a shame how the quality of things made in recent years is so inferior to what was made when that mixer was new.
Yes. This will likely run another fifty years now even though it gets used a lot.
I’m replacing this same power cord for a friend but felt I should update it with a grounded cord since the mixer is all metal. This mixer would not be sold today without that ground. Trouble is, now the mixer trips a GFCI outlet so this may not be an option.
Thanks! That's interesting info. I often debate whether I should be adding a grounded cord when I do these sort of restorations but I think these mixers have a relatively isolated body so risk of shock is low. I wonder if by adding the ground you're sending a bit of leakage into the GFI?
For a 69 year old mixer. A great job. I enjoyed your video. Anything like this like you just take your time and yes we can do it. Should be good for several years to come. Thank you for sharing!
💯👍👊
Thanks! I think it'll outlast me now. :) I just don't think people realize how well made and functional these were.
Back in the 60's, my mother and my friend's mothers all had a Mixmaster on their kitchen counters. There were many other brands available but Mixmaster seemed to be the most trusted.
I still see these at the local flea markets. They were certainly built to last and must have done everything consumers needed. My wife bakes a lot and she loves this unit enough for her to give her Kitchen Aid to her mother.
Nice job Matt! That’s also a collector item too.
I remember when I bought it in the 1990's I was specifically looking for one that was all chrome. I think even then it was sought after over the painted models. Most of these were white but for Easter one year I did buy my wife a rare pink model (which she doesn't use because she's trying to keep it perfect).
