Just discovered your channel and very much enjoyed that video. Hiking the AT upon retirement in eight years is very much a target. One of the things that puts me off is the overcrowding and the suggestion of hiking the BMT and then connecting with the AT at Davenport gap is well worth considering. Thanks for the insights and good luck on the Colorado Trail.
Love this book! It is a real inside look at how to set an FKT and the Benton MacKaye Trail. Pete’s pictures and support of Tara and the team was/is immeasurable. Looking forward to getting my copy signed. 📚

Glad you weren’t freaked by the wild hogs. Wish I could say the same with the ones I saw south of Mount Sterling. How did you deal with the GSMP camping permits during the thru?
They are always hanging out around Mt. Sterling!!! That’s a hot spot for them. When I was running through there I was very aware of them and trying to keep my eyes peeled
I hiked a section of the BMT from Smokemont north, because I couldn't get a camping permit to hike that section of AT in GSMNP. I've now considered finishing the BMT in sections rather than the AT since it's a more manageable length for someone that lives out West and has to travel so far to do sections. 📗
MST next month is my plan. I thought the Appalachian at first but the MST is my home state. Especially the kayak part will make it more interesting

I have my first ever backpacking trip for next year. We are going to be hitting the benton trail but intersection off onto other trail.
