    The best way to kick off a new year is to set money goals for 2021 that help you make progress in all four money goal categories and not just one or two. Remember that life is the thing that happens on your road to financial independence.

    I’m SO appreciative of your balance here. I’ve been watching a lot of financial videos the last couple years, and I think I watched too many that are just “don’t buy anything!” and “no debt ever ever ever!” It’s just made me anxious. This video is such a good balance of reminding me of the necessity of saving and being prudent, but also of living my life to its fullest. Thank you, thank you!

    I cannot tell you how much these videos are resonating with me. A few years back I was introduced to you all, but couldn’t get into the content. As my wife is on the verge of graduating from law school, and I’ve entered the financial services industry, the conversations we have about money are so much more nuanced. It’s not because we’re financial gurus. It’s because with great power/opportunity comes great responsibility to make it work for us. We’ve had to think about and discuss these 4 goals A LOT. Holding them in balance (or probably better to say integration) to ensure we deal with the past, present, and future is of paramount importance. Thanks for what you both are doing; frankly speaking, you’re using your banking and financial legal expertise to provide insight and nuance many of us just don’t know!

    I hope this doesn't sound too strange, but I've listened to this particular video multiple times as it contains such an incredible amount of useful, common sense knowledge that I think will serve your viewers for the rest of their lives. I am hugely grateful for your content and all of these resources; as somebody who did not grow up with access to this sort of information it is a great help. ☺️ Thank you so much!

    Investing in yourself 💯💯💯! I keep asking myself “how much of my money am I keeping for myself?” and any money spent on my lifestyle goals is counted as money kept. The money I spend to travel or explore the outdoors diversifies my perspective portfolio.

    This is so helpful, Tasha! BTW, I once talked to a financial counselor who told me that a concern she had about her older clients was that they were unwilling, almost unable to spend money on themselves in retirement. They had saved and saved their whole lives and now that it was time to spend some of those savings and enjoy themselves a bit, they had the hardest time doing it.

    I am so insecure about my job and how long I’m going to be able to do it. I’m 58 and a nurse at the bedside. I don’t have a degree and the bedside is the most profitable and I can work part time. I’m afraid to put pen to paper about paychecks that I have not earned yet and I’ve always felt this way for one reason or another. One bad mistake and my career could be over.

      We have lots of videos here to get you thinking of the possibilities. But first, I want you to challenge yourself on this idea that you don't have time. Do you really not have any time? Start tracking your time. Put a tracker app on your phone and computer and see how much time you spend scrolling the internet. How many TV shows have you watched this week? Even claiming 1 hour a week to improve yourself is something!

    • @elahalilovic1954

    College isnt the only way we should be encouraged to invest in our education and skill growth. It IS very problematic to consider it a good investment when the degree and market does not align with other types of financial goals. Attending college to live with parents, work unstable gigs and not afford many lifestyle goals. For over half college students who are urged to ‘invest’ in their education it needs to be settled on if they can mentally and emotionally afford the investment. Also thinking about labor gaps in skill trades that pay 80 K+ nah there needs to be a much deeper conversation about student loan debt especially for jobs that do not return on that investment.

    • @OneBigHappyLife
      @OneBigHappyLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Hi Tyra, college definitely isn't the only way to invest in education skills. In fact, I mentioned 6 different ways to invest in education and skill growth--one of which was attending a trade school. Having said that, your comment highlights the exact issue I brought up in the video: that people are scared to invest in themselves because of all of the negativity around college and student loans. The truth is that not all investments lead directly to an immediate monetary return, but that doesn't meant that they weren't worth it. For example, I have never tried to make a living with my American Studies degree. That doesn't make it a bad investment. It's enriched my worldview in ways that allow me to make better decisions, understand the way the world works, and think differently--all of which has benefited me in my career as a finance attorney and as an entrepreneur. Similarly, just because a trade pays $80,000 a year doesn't mean you'd be happier doing than than living with your parents with a degree that pays less. Did you know that trade jobs also carry one of the highest occupational suicide rates?
      The truth is that no one knows whether or not they can mentally or emotionally handle an investment until they are actually living the results of their decisions. Too many people allow themselves to believe that life would have turned out better for them if they had made different decisions. But as I mentioned in the video, we have no idea where life would have taken us or where life WILL take us. That person living with their parents today could end up being a multi-millionaire entrepreneur 10 or 20 years from now. I know two of them. Or that person who became a single teen mom when everyone told her it was a huge mistake could end up at Yale Law then running her own company teaching people how to build wealth and create their best lives. Oh yeah, that last one is me.😉--Tasha
