A little insight/quick bio on Marianas Trench for you guys: Josh Ramsay wears his influences on his sleeve: Queen, Matthew Good Band, Jellyfish, Foo Fighters, Micheal Jackson, The Police, etc. The guy grew up with a music producer for a Dad and a Vocal Instructor for a Mom, who owned Little Mountain Studios in Vancouver, which is where a ton of rock acts like Aerosmith, Mötley Crue, Metallica & Bon Jovi recorded stuff. So were talking about a student of the craft here who grew up around huge rock influences while also adoring pop music. I could write up a huge backstory, but I'd rather not bore anyone with a wall of text. This is one of their album closers, which are big, triumphic pieces meant to conclude everything. With this one, it's all about confronting the spirit (Eleonara) that's been haunting him the whole album (IRL, it was him wondering if he should get back together with his then ex-fiancé, who had stood him up at the altar.... in the end, they did get married.) that's been haunting him the whole album which shockingly led to a very upbeat pop album instead of a spooky one like many fan had hoped for when they first heard that the album was to be about a ghost in concept.
Thank You for this!! So not all Marianas Trench songs are big and epic, only the opener and the closers are!! The first album was Fix Me (2006 Every album from their second record "Masterpiece Theatre" on is concept albums! Masterpiece Theatre was based on broadway musical acts, Ever After (2011) was fairytale like and told a story and when you listen to the album it was made for one song leads into the next and that was the first album that Josh Ramsay produced all the tracks and that's from ever after on! Astoria (2015) Is based on Movies of kids going on adventures like The Goonies, Super 8 Ect.. !! Phantoms (2019) is huntings and having the live shows feel like that as well!! Alot of their songs are pop songs and end up on radio! And yes every member is from Vancouver and so am I! I actually just met this band for the 3rd time last week at a party lol!! Thank you again for the reactions and the laughs! I now wish the band did a concept album on the deep sea!! Ocean Deep by Marianas trench THaT SouNds GooD
these guys are BIG on the canadian radio, so we got the inside knowledge. I would totally recommend that you check out Josh Ramsay, the lead singer, who did a solo album where he tried to make songs from as many different genres as possible, with other canadian artists (And he is one hell of a producer, so it's good shit). It's called The Josh Ramsay Show, and it is iconic. Specifically, I'd suggest you look at the songs Lady Mine, Delirious, and Painted Faces from that album. If you're interested in more Marianas trench (certainly not as epic, usually, but still just as good), I'd suggest you look into Stutter, Celebrity Status, This Means War, and One Love to get a hit of the old Canadian radio (and just for reference, yes, we really do have our own radio, canadian laws ensure that the live media must play 50-60% of canadian content in a year, so our radios are filled with so many niche artists that I always thought were worldwide hits as a kid, like these guys here)
I feel like so much is lost when listening to this song if you hadn't just listened to every song in the album before this one! Plus all the references to past albums...
Honestly the this is my favorite album from them, this song has elements from the other songs in the album and its definitely not the only album plays out like that.
I've never heard them before even though I can listen to Canadian radio stations occasionally. I can just about wave to you all from the Olympic Peninsula.

"Go down bellow, where children go and we'll float down here"that's an IT reference! (That's something Pennywise would say)

Josh Ramsay is a musical genius. They do not have one bad album

Not enough people listen to Marianas trench. They are one of those bands that are better if you listen to albums top to bottom, full send.
