They are the previous generation Snap-on ratchets with a change in handle design. Even the rebuild kits crossover. When they were labeled Snap-on, they were the best in the world. Now they’re junk? No way. I think it makes great sense for Snap-on to keep the existing machines running when they introduce new designs. They did the same for their old hard handle screwdrivers. The Williams USA-made chrome sockets are the exact same as the current Snap-on other than the stamping/logo. Williams is a well kept secret, but an outstanding value.
Professional mechanic for over 40 years. Never had any J. H. Williams tool that wasn’t the BEST. I’ve used A LOT of tools. I’m not a tool snob, I’ve used probably every tool manufacturer both U.S. and likely half the foreign made. (Motorcycles, cars, trucks, machine tools - both small & very large). Whoever says Williams tools are junk doesn’t know what they’re talking about. They certainly are not mechanic.
Thanks john for joining in!! i like my williams ratchets, built like tanks!! stay tuned, lots of tool reviews and give aways every other week, take care!!
I love Williams ratchets....I have several round head 72 T made for S-O As far as the back drag, they need to be lubed & broken in. Have a nice day brother!
Hi don, i just thought id make this video o williams ratchet, because somone called them junk!! and like you don, j love them!!! thanks don, will be doing something new, im all ratcheted out!! stay tuned!!
Hi don 1/4 has always been my favorite size!! and williams ratchet are nice!! you worked on wirlybirds, wow thats neat!!! i always heard they were a complex machine, to work on and fly!!
remember? i commented on another video that i like to use a 3/8 snap on low tooth count ratchet because its a brute and i have the 1/2 snap on with low tooth count that its also a brute, williams is just like snap on, i have a ratcheting williams screwdriver only tool i own and it feels just like a snap on,williams is not junk i agree.
I bought some of those ratchets because I wanted the old snap on 936 feel. Also the round head because I love round head ratchets. They are great ratchets and when they had snap on stamped on them they were called the best.
Hi my friend, best bang for the buck in my opinion!! thanks for telling me what you like and use!! i did a series on round head ratchets!!! check them out!! stay tuned!
I own Williams ratchets personally. I bought them to replace my old Craftsman USA ratchets and Allen brand ratchets. These are light years better. They are solid. They don't slip. They don't have that high tooth count like most newer style ratchets, which to me is a non-issue. They simply work and are easy to repair. For quality and price point really you can't beat them. Williams ratchets can take abuse.
I have a 1/2 inch older super ratchet 72t dual pawl and I have put cheater bars on it many times and the ratchet had never failed. They are very strong, and well built. I believe the older ones are built a little stronger than some of the new ones but. They are very strong.
Hi bigc hang on to that my friend!! i thought i was done with ratchet videos for awhile, that was until someone said thier junk!!!! thanks my friend!! will be going into some different stuff next!!
The S-52 S-53 B-52 dual pawll ratchets had 41 teeth in the head and with the double pawls being half a step out of sync made it equal to a 82 tooth ratchet very strong mechanism the best in my opinion of dual pawl ratchets
Williams are my favorite and the best in my opinion I just done a video on my channel on my vintage JH Williams and co S-53 S-52 B-52 ratchets they are in pristine condition i would grade them as NOS I don't plan on using them but i do plan on getting some that have been used so i can keep my collection pristine damn good ratchets I've used them in the past and love them my second favorite is new Britain killness ratchets great content glad you posted this video to clear things up happy new year
I was just over your channel,i love your content my friend,i will follow you,ill will put the word out about your channel in my next video!! take care!!
@@jefftovani5535 thanks I appreciate it I'm new so I've got a lot to learn you make it look easy but I know it's not I always look back like crap why didn't I mention this or that LoL but I have a lot of fun with it regardless I really enjoy your channel and I appreciate your un biased opinion on tools not every thing has to be snap on to be good if the price is right and it gets the job done its a great tool in my book have a safe and happy holiday season my friend
@user-zx8de8op9l yes they are I'm glad Williams didn't go defunct like other great tool companies of the past Williams had a great number of struggles throughout their years but snap on buying the name I think will remain solid I hope so I can't tell you how many younger people don't know billings new Britain indestro and other great tool companies just because they are defunct its sad alot of great names died that is why collecting is so important at least to me it is
I have that 1/4" flex head and it's one of my favourite 1/4" ratchets. Anyone who thinks Williams ratchets are junk because of the low tooth count doesn't understand that high tooth count isn't the only indication of quality in a ratchet.
They're good...I love em...☝️ I have the 1/2" with the round head smooth as butta...and the 1/2" you have there with the older Snap-on kits inside... great! I like the Wright round heads too... very similar to these.. not expensive..
welcome to the channel!! thanks for sharing that with us!! i love you like the round head ratchets!! thier old school design but rugged as hell!! stay tuned my friend!
I have several williams ratchets. For the money I would take them over harbor freight any day. Yeah they have a low tooth count. That doesn't mean they suck it just means they aren't perfect for every application.
Hi rick, rite on,i love those ratchets, low tooth count, strong ratchet, and like you said, if arc swing needs to be low,say 3 or 5 degrees, then they might be a problem, but for the most part they are great!!! made in usa, and darn good value!! thanks for joining in!
Personally, I don't like high tooth count ratchets. I've had them skip under load before. Most of my ratchets are older USA made Craftsmans and they've been doing me well for over 40 years. I have a couple antique 1/2 ratchets made by "Duro Tool Company" back in the early 1930's. They have a low tooth count, I think around 30, but man they are tough!!
Hi ironclad i love those old craftsman low tooth count ratchets!!! i own several over 40 years old!! these williams are all low tooth counts as well!! thanks for watching my friend!!!
So I just looked…. Nicely executed buuttt 36 tooth???? Wtf??? Plenty of finer tooth stuff has managed strength with a finer tooth count. God I detest the old round head full knurl things. Proto and SK used to make similar.
Yea i think the tooth count has been beat like a dead horse!! when they say140,150,160,180 i think its not going to help you anymore than lets say a xp 120 gearwrench!! 72 to 90 i consider the sweet spot!! but you still need 36 tooth for strength and durability, and thats were i think a williams ratchet comes into play!!thanks my friend for the feedback!!
Honestly I don’t think low tooth count matters for strength because the most common failure is the anvil. Tests on high tooth count ratchets (usually) show the anvils breaking first with little to no damage on teeth. I’d rather go with the higher tooth count personally.
Hi mrmoto thanks for your input!! and yea ive seen the test where anvil breaks alot!! i myself like 72 tooth tatchets!! but i still love these lower tooth williams, big bang for the buck, made in usa!! thanks again for your thought!!
I have every Williams ratchet and I never use them. The honest truth is they are beautifully made ratchets. I’ve replace some internals with Snap-on parts, so there’s no doubt that they are the real deal. The problem is they are 36 tooth and the back drag is atrocious. Depending on the application that’s fine, but if you’re working on a car they are a bit of a nightmare to use. There are better options.
Hi cannon , I never care for the back drag as well, but still use them!! Thanks for your opinion and joining in!! Stick around for lots more stuff, thanks for watching!!
Yea there not junk!! williams are good bang for the buck!! there small tooth counts but built like a tank!! older snap on design!! thanks for joining in my friend!!
For everyday general work I'll reach for a 36 tooth ratchet over these newer high tooth count units. To me 36 teeth are the ideal tooth count. I've used them in some tight places without any issue. I may have to look into the Williams. They are the old Snap on design that served me well throughout my career as a professional mechanic. Cornwell still offers 30 tooth units. I may look into one of those as well. Back drag wasn't an issue for me. I would just choke up on the ratchet and place a fingertip on the socket.
Hi lieser, there so damn inexpensive for made usa ratchet, hard to beat!! the back drag, for the most part doesnt bother me as well!! you should pick some up, look and feel like old snappy!! will be getting off ratchets, just that one guy trashed them pretty bad,had to do the video!!

Hey Jeff you should try converting one of those 1/4 in to 3/8. Snap on has a kit that fits perfectly, I paid $15, online
Hi mario that a great idea, i will definitley look into it,and if i do ill make a video on it!! thanks my friend!!
Great video Jeff thanks for your information I would definitely buy Williams
Yea you cant go wrong for the price and made in usa!! thanks for watching!!
My 3 ratchets are vintage B-52 3/8 and 2 S-52 1/2 drive. These are Super Ratchets. I found them at a garage or estate sale cheap.
Snap did buy them out,its part of there industrial line up now!!

Would you mind giving me the part number for the long 1/4 flex head ratchet?
Williams 1/4 flex-head ratchet is 8 inches long $36 on amazon item#M-52EHFA!!! stay tuned!!
They make a long handle round head 3/8 like 10 and 1/2 inches long. I want to get one. They are very strong. Id say as strong as some breaker bars.
I look into that, love the round head!!! thanks a bunch for supporting my small channel! if i ever hit 1000 subs ill be giving away 5 nice tools!!
Not every ratchet has to have a high tooth count. They look pretty sweet to me. Also the round head 1/4 looks just like my 1/4 SK ratchet.
Yes I like them! Sk makes good ratchets!! Thanks my friend for your thoughts, stay tuned!!
Bottom line they are still made in the good old 🇺🇸 Not many companies left in USA. 👍
Yes USA made, which is inportant in my book!! thanks joe for checking them out!!!
I am getting a bunch of Williams. Old snap on was 30 tooth.
We have become tooth count snobs.

What about the H 51B ratchet?Any good?
The 3/4 drive model? i never owned it or did a review on them
Those ratchets have “sweet lines!” They look like a ratchet should look!
Williams is in the house!! they sure do look nice!! thanks snow!!
