I'm not going to defend A-Rod's postseason performances in 2005 or any series post-2009. But for Michael Kay to say that A-Rod NEVER hit in the postseason before 2009 (9:19) is just flat-out wrong. A-Rod mashed in 1997 and 2000 with the Mariners, and almost single-handedly beat the Twins in the 2004 ALDS. He was also hitting well in the 2004 ALCS, until Game 6 when the entire team inexplicably collapsed. Again, no excuse for 2005, he stunk, but in 2006 the Yankees only played 4 postseason games and despite the entire team besides Jeter and Posada not bitting, A-Rod was singled out by Joe Torre and embarrassed by being hit 6th in Game 3 and 8th in Game 4. In 2007, the Yankees again only played 4 games but A-Rod began hitting. He hit almost .300 and added a home run as well. Then 2009 came and we all know how good he was that postseason. I think the guy gets a really bad rap. He wasn't great, but besides the inexcusable 2005 ALDS he had against the Angels, he wasn't this automatic out everyone pretends he was.
The Yanks picked Volpe ahead of Bobby Witt in the '19 Draft.....
So what
@@knickingaround7810 ummmm... Witt Jr is like 100 times better than Volpe?
Volpe is overrated. 12 homers this season?????? Not even a top 10-15 shortstop! 156 strikeouts next to Judge 171. Error prone. Top 10 with errors at 17. What are you people watching! No power at 5’9 in swings. WAR of 3.4 which is not All Star level caliber player. He miss throws and atrocious fielding. Mental game not paying attention. Can’t hit why do Yanks need a player who can’t even hit 25-30 hrs? Yanks should trade for Bobby Witt Jr or Gunnar Henderson who are much better hitters
The Yankees PICKED VOLPE AHEAD OF BOBBY WITT in the '19 draft.....Cashman nightmare
100% agreed. Witt Jr would be the next Jeter.
He plays for the best team in baseball. Lights are always on him! Baseball is hard. Shit aint as easy as ohtani makes it..
Look at the best player in baseball , JUDGE, he is finally going to feast in these playoffs
.. finally like after how many years!?
Nobody knows who's going to be a great player in a draft. Look at Tom Brady.
The top SS from other organization draft picks have developed into All Stars or top 10 SS. Yanks SS has done neither in year 2. Seems like a downward spiral. Bobby Witt Jr has pedigree where his dad was former mlb player that should already be high on scouts radar
Honest question: How many of the other starting SS in the league would you prefer to have over Mr. Volpe? I personally have about 11-13 ahead of him.
lol name them
@@thirtythirty
1. Corey Seagar
2. Francisco Lindor
3. Xander Bogaerts
4. Dansby Swanson
5. Trea Turner
6. Bo Bichette
7. Carlos Correa
8. Willy Adames
9. Bobby Witt Jr
10. JP Crawford
11. Gunnar Henderson
Volpe ain’t it if he keeps batting in bottom half of lineup and striking out 156 times plus bad fielder. Look to Yanks trading him in near future
You give me Michael Kay on the call over Costas ever single time. i do miss Kay
@2:47 Don with the Joker laugh 😂
I’m highly impressed with Volpe. His defense is exquisite to watch. His bat is strong as well. Last night deserved a better fate at the plate. Kid looks stressed. Hoping folks are getting into his head to help him relax and enjoy the process.
I dont know why Yanks fans bother wasting time calling up this show. M Kay is a total loser and absolutely clueless and he's never wrong, just ask him. It sucks Yankees fans have such awful people covering their team. They deserve way better than these guys.
Why do you listen or watch? It makes no sense unless you're a fan of torture? Why?
Yet here you are listening lol
@@YYKTPÑ Who says I do?
Volpe is a good defensive SS. He has speed. Has some pop. Plays hard. He's what? 22? 23? Give it a break.
Volpe is another Torres or Sanchez. Kid's a good player, but he's too heady. I think he would be better on another team in a smaller market. It wouldn't surprise me if he's an all star in another team at some point, but on the Yankees, I don't think he'll be any better than occasionally great like Torres. Fortunately, right now is one of those times when Torres is great and Volpe is looking like he may break out in the ALCS. But that doesn't mean he fits this team long term.
Should we get rid of him this off-season? It shouldn't be a top priority, but we should be always looking for opportunities to improve in that position. If we fill our other holes, I'd take Cabrera at short, but for now we need him as a super utility player.
This comment is ridiculous. Plz stop and thanks
😂😂😂😂😂, 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
@@cadenmills7838 What's ridiculous about it? Has Volpe hit anywhere close to what we were hoping for? When he hit well in April, Boone put him at the higher pressure leadoff spot and he crumbled. He is great at times, maybe not Torres level, but he's still very young (and so is Torres). Could he turn into a player that can handle New York? Maybe. And he's adequate for now until we find someone better. But I'm VERY far from sold he's a long term solution to that position.
(Note that I'm not comparing his power to Torres or Sanchez, only his potential overall value if he pans out, a value that I don't think he will reach on the Yankees.)
@@Sam_on_TH-camdude he’s ridiculously young and has shown improvement. If the improvement stalls out in the future I’ll be right there with you but I think it’s way too early for this take. I also think you are misconstruing learning the game for not being able to play in New York.
@@knickingaround7810 Maybe. I hope so. Certainly players mature. I'm not saying we should give up on him. I'm just saying that if the opportunity to improve at the position presents itself, we shouldn't decline because of Volpe. And that opportunity might be Cabrera, depending on what holes the team has next year that he needs to fill. But it's not a top priority.
Volpe is extremely average and less than average at the plate.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂, prove it with stats across the MLB, while you ride the short bus home 😂😂😂😂
This is what? His 5th post season. 135 is fucking horrendous. How do you defend that.
Have a look at Williams, Mays and Musial's post-season numbers. Would you get rid of them?
Agree volpe is not the issue and he's under team control. Have to focus on first second and left field. But no mike NOT BREGMAN
My favorite team is the Yankees but I’m a baseball fan first. I’ve enjoyed watching the Mets and the Tigers in these playoffs. I enjoy Michael Kay on YES doing the Yankee games but on his Radio Show he is a total ass!
Volpe is bettef off playing 2B. He doesn't have the arm for shortstop. Good range weak arm. He needs more time to learn the game and have a higher baseball IQ.
Without Judge, we wouldn’t be in the playoffs in the first place. Don’t judge.
@@paulnelson447 Soto too with his left handed bat. This was Yankees weakness prior to him and Verdugo coming along with other lefties
Credit Kay for admitting he made a mistake
Berti is a better player then we know, Volpe is super star in wait so GIVE THE GUYS YOU NOW HAVE MORE OF A CHANCE sometimes too much praise tears down people especially when grudges are formed cause of it and star players will sink.Too much on 2 players when maturity is on par.
Berti injured hurt his value so much this season I genuinely think Berti would’ve been a slightly above league average hitter with a gold glove caliber 3B glove
@joeyp3855 Jon Berti is the perfect roll player on a Championship team. Makes contact, hits for a high average, can steal bases, and is a really good defender at multiple positions. He was just hidden in Miami. Therefore, the average fan had no clue who he was.
@@joeyp3855 volpe is a superstar in wait? Get your eyes checked
Forget Bregman. Play Berti at 3b and Chisim at 2b. 1b is the concern
They have Cabrera. They have Peraza if they don’t keep Berti
He's horrible Volpe is Average at Best
All stats says , you're still riding the short bus 😂😂😂😂
Not even at average! Always makes mistakes fielding. Can’t hit if his life depends on it. There is a reason he is batting ninth not leadoff! Falling asleep all the time on the field making errors!
What a hypocrite Don is lord
Bergman really Mike
You always you act like your not connected your full of it
Id take Bernie Williams over Judge because of post season performance
U got that
He has the same numbers as Mickey mantle in the play offs
Volpe will be the SS next year but I could see him being cut loose if he doesn’t show vast improvement
Literally boosted his average by 34 points from his rookie year to his second.
He will absolutely not be cut loose. I really don’t understand Yankee fans. He plays great defense and an average bat. You're not going to have an all-star at every position. He contributes to the team, and he isn't going anywhere.
He’s not even 24 relax. Judge didn’t even get called up until he was 25 and jeter was a nobody until he was 28
@Marco-r8n I was with you until the Jeter part, lol. Jeter was a 5X all-star, 4X WS Champion. a WS MVP, All-Star MVP, and had already had 3 seasons of 200 plud hits at age 28. He definitely wasn't a nobody.
I sure hope so. People have to realize he has a lot of learning and growing to do. He was only a .250 hitter in the minor leagues. He has and will continue to take steps forward each year.
But Volpe is an automatic OUT
He bumped his average by 34 points from his rookie year. Cut back on the home run swing, getting more doubles and triples. And he's just 23. He's still improving. And might now, he's batting .250 with an OBP over .430 in the playoffs. Not exactly an automatic out.
Volpe is pretty clutch. I don't trust his arm at all, though.
@snerdterguson so he lost his power for a gained a misley .034 pts? Put him in the hall.
@@michaelvanetten7704He’s 23 lmao
@@michaelvanetten7704ur 300 pounds
I think Torres will be gone for sure, but I am not very confident in Volpe. He makes too many errors. He’s not the best batter in the world if his defense was along the lines of MarkP the old Baltimore Orioles shot star shortstop who couldn’t hit a lick, but he kept around because of his defensive skills. Volpe does not have his defensive skills to rely on too many errors too many missed thrown balls too many bad decisions. I’m just not sold on Anthony Volpe I disagree with you there Michael.
