I'm a Met fan. 68 years old, watching baseball my whole life. I watch and pull for the Yanks as long as they're not playing the Mets. Do you really think I would root for some west coast team over a NY team? What the hell is wrong with you?

I'd say I'm a Met fan. I don't subscribe to any Yankee channels but watch a lot of games on YES network. I also pull for all NY teams in other sports except for the Jets because they're in the Bill's division.

@@MrTstone91 I've been a Yankee fan since 1972, I was 7 years old...My 1st game was in 73' the last year the Original Yankee Stadium operated before it was torn down for the 74' and 75' seasons when the Yankees used Shea Stadium as home field...I was in the Army in October 86, 2 months before I shipped out overseas for a year...I was sitting on my bed living off base with my wife and watching the Mets pull off a freakin' miracle against the Red Sox...When they won we were jumping up and down on the bed yelling and screaming and so happy even though I was a huge Yankee fan...I just can't get over the patheticness of Mets fans that hate the Yankees just because they're the Yankees...They should hate the Phillies or Dodgers but they save that special pathetic hate for the Yankees just because they're jealous...I could NEVER understand that type of stupidity...They hate us more than we hate Boston and that rivalry is 120 years old!! I have been a diehard fan since i was a kid and this season is way better for the yankees then previous seasons but those seasons dont even matter where they didnt succeed. What matters is what they are doing now in the moment in this season. And what are they doing? Winning and fighting and giving it their since the regular season. With all the struggles of the regular season they are still on top and finished on top in this regular season. Finished 1st in everything minus best record. Yankees are the team to beat in this postseason and chances are they will win the ws. There is no other option here. The yankees will beat anyone that steps in their way. First things first is to chuck the guardians or tigers aside and beat them. It will happen because the yankees are better then either of them. Yankees have proven themselves till now and they still get discredited for no reason. The yankees will win the ws after they get there. It will take a miracle for another team to beat them in the ws. I was in 4th grade when the Mets won the ‘86 World Series and my teacher made me stand in the classroom closet as punishment because I put my head down on my desk & refused to watch the ticker tape parade.
I hated the Mets for years. But then I grew up and matured. Ironically, I have now been married to a Mets fan for 15 years. I don’t cheer for the Mets but I’m not mad if they win as long as it’s not against my Yankees. They’re in a whole other league. Who cares if they win as long as it’s not against the Yankees.

I think this is a bad take and a classic old timer take. This has nothing to do with “being a real Yankee fan” as you put it Micheal, this is about the generational gap in rivalries. I grew up in a time where the Red Sox rivalry was hotter than ever and then when they disappeared it was the Astros. I despise the Astros with every fiber of my being but frankly, I’m indifferent towards the Mets and royals (including the royals because of the rivalry). And to add another point, how far back do we go? Are you not a true fan for not hating the teams that rivaled us in the 1930’s? Just such an old man take
