    Fantastic Roger! But where were you a couple of years ago when I needed this so badly 😁!! I’m not inexperienced but I haven’t found the Roland very intuitive at all so struggled through basic steps ( still do if I’m honest😒) These MV videos are fantastic & extremely helpful. The old videos still out there for this really focus on the sampling aspects but I really like it as a sequencer for a lot of external gear. I know it might be super basic but if you make more of these basic ones can you focus on the sequencing and building a track aspects of the MV...Thanks again!

    • @theMIDImaniac
      @theMIDImaniac  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hahaha! A couple of years ago I was busy with other things but music.
      I understand what you mean about the intuitive part and that's why I start with this kind of step-by-step videos.
      Sequencing will be one of them, of course.
      Thanks for your support as always!

    Midimaniac.......OMG....thank you so much for posting this video, dude. I'm an old school guy when it comes to my equipment and I got my MV8000 for $300 at a pawnshop. My MPCs are a lot easier to work on, but now I see that the MV isn't so bad either. Waiting on your next MV video, man. Thanks again.

      Hahaha Welcome to the club of hardware old school guys :D.

      Hi! Thanks a lot!
      I came very late to the party when I bought my MV in 2018. I’m totally surprised about all the possibilities.
      Never tried the MPC workflow but it has to be great too because that community is huge.

    Thank you very much for this. Your intro is exactly how I felt when I first got the MV (delivered during the pandemic) after 8-10 years of not producing any music(my 3 kids, lol). As I let you know before, your other videos helped jump start me with this machine.

    • @theMIDImaniac
      @theMIDImaniac  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hahahaha...Yves, we are on the same boat as I said before too. :)
      After 3 kids finally getting down to make some music and then this huge MV which does nothing when turned on.
      I will continue with more of these step by step vids.

    • @yvesdropBeats
      @yvesdropBeats 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Another thing to note is that wav sample rates can be converted in audacity down to 44.1hz. I purchased some sounds on eBay only to find that half of the sounds weren’t compatible with the MV because the sample rates were different. So I loaded the sounds into audacity and converted them to 44.1hz then transported the sounds into the MV. Smooth and easy.

    Hey Roger, please don't forget the MV tutorials you started...I know that right know you"re too enthusiasting about the CF card reader, for the super SP 808, but just don't forget us...
    And by the way, you're responsible for the MV i bought and i love...(it would be an SP 808, but an enormous uprising of my economics, allowed me to go for the Big boy, and i'm just overwhelming right now..heh..)
    Have fun and be safe, you and your family too...\\\

      Hahaha! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
      Well...I'm indeed happy with the CF-Card but this is a long term operation.
      Today I'm finally sitting behind my computer to catch up with some things.
      Summer for us is always busy so hardly no time for studio. The SP-808-vid were just two which I had to upload. (CF and 808-day)
      So, I won't forget you and the rest of MV-users :-)
      You stay safe too and enjoy summer with your family!

    For the make keyboard function, I assign a sound sampled from my computer by octave. A sound is expanded over one octave instead of a sound to the entire 8 octave. If you Compare the results for a sampled piano over the entire octaves, or multiple sounds affected to each octaves you’ll ear the difference.

    • @theMIDImaniac
      @theMIDImaniac  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the addition :D
      I agree on what you mention.
      When I want a better spread I even sample all C and F# notes because there is a difference of 6 notes between them.
      To make it even funkier you can sample Attack-sounds which respond on velocity to make it more 'natural' to add it with the SMT-function.
      The Solid Bass in my sample pack is sampled also sampled like this.
      Thanks for passing by!

    Another great tutorial video, your video skills are great, very clear. Midi maniac, how are you using the vs2480, l mean are you syncing with MTC or midi clock or neither?

    • @theMIDImaniac
      @theMIDImaniac  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for mentioning that. That's important feedback.
      Regarding syncing: I use MTC and then with a tempo map.
      Important: I DON'T use the ext-sync button because that always gives me a delay of a fraction. Annoying.
      But with MTC and tempo map the MV and the VS are nicely synced.

    • @diggerjams7373
      @diggerjams7373 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The MIDI Maniac Thanks for your answer, l picked up a korg xd16, it was in an average condition but managed to fix the faders and jog wheel, the internal electronics looked very sound and in a good condition, but the bottom external plate was full of corrosion. I will try your suggestions, what do you mean by tempo map?

    I always wanted to buy one, but bought the MPC Renaissance instead. I keep trying to justify to myself that the MV is better. They are not cheap down here (they go for about 700 dollars), but when I hear your unit playing I have to control myself to avoid getting one. Great tutorial!

    I set one looped measure, press Rec, MV records that measure and then it just plays that recorded loop (Record mode goes “off”). Can you tell me please what’s the problem with that? I have to press Rec button every 3 seconds to add new sounds to the mix. Thank you. I’m absolutely new to this machine

    Can I save projects to the cd burner to free up hard drive space?

  • @Mikepepp2
    @Mikepepp2 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I need this I’ve had an mv8000 sitting in my closet for about 5 years . I just don’t get the sampling section . Mainly. 1. Sample 2. Save .3 chop 4. Retrieve samples from hard drive to use in any song or pattern . Everything else I get. It’s just the sampling section. That drives me nuts

    • @theMIDImaniac
      @theMIDImaniac  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Mikepepp - also on IG ;D
      I will soon upload a video only about sampling. It's indeed a complicated part but once mastered it wil become a powerful feature.

    Great Video. Have you ever had to do any maintenance on one of these. My play button stopped working the other day - fortunately Ive got the mouse but I really want to work without a monitor if possible. Also, Why is it when I create an audio phrase and play it on the pads its loud and clear but when I resample it onto an audio track it drops volume (even though I have the track set to full volume).

    • @theMIDImaniac
      @theMIDImaniac  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Instant noodle hi!
      Thanks for your comment.
      I’ve never had maintenance on my MV (toca madera)
      There’s a simple workaround with the play-button by using a foot switch. In system settings you can select the foot switch for start stop. This way a monitor is not necessary.
      About the audio phrase to track volume I suggest to take a look at the mixer of the audio tracks. Also check the sample output in system settings on which dB it is set.
      Good luck and I hope it helps.

    Hello Roger. Would you happen to still have the specs for the Roland MV 8000 wooden side panels?
    Thank you kindly sir!

    • @theMIDImaniac
      @theMIDImaniac  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do have very, very simple plans on my website.
      It's in the end very easy to create your own wooden side panels.
      Here's the link: themidimaniac.com/roland-mv-8000-production-studio/

    • @traxxtar72
      @traxxtar72 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so kindly sir! I'm honored that you responded!
      The wood panels on the MV will compliment the synthstrom deluge.. Speaking of: since I have the Master Midimans attention. I've been trying to figure out how to pair the synthstrom deluge with the mv800.. I would love to pair them up like Voltron.
      I'm pretty new to this whole rodeo.. but I lept out on a limb and gathered the goods I thought to keep me sane during these strange times. With that said... I only use the Deluge and MV (separately).. no laptop or PC daw.. just the MV VGA and the Deluge box itself is a touch screenish daw like doohickey of sorts.. ..
      Although I don't know what this stuff is .. the Deluge has clock in, gate out 1-4, CV 1&2... And of course Midi in/out (5 pin din)... Note* I believe the Deluge is capable of USB Midi...
      I know a simple question turned into this😬...
      But actually realizing whom I was speaking with... Who better to ask than someone who holds Midi so dearly... PS sorry for bugging you on this

    Hey my friend, i hope you are OK, in these difficult days...You see, i'm a bit worried , cause you haven't upload smth for a long timt, (according to yours uploading *rhythm*, heh..), and nostalgia hit me..
    You see, i'm remember very well yours *adventure* with your health, which gave you the idea to start and making a youtube channel, and if it goes up to 500 members, you would continue it,...
    Well, as it shows, your predictions were humble, and of corse its a lot better to be humble than snob...
    And i can say that i have 2 internet friends, you and Espen Kraft, i became a member in his channel when the number of members were 2 digit...
    He's a great guy and humble, his net success doesnt changed him at all...
    But to tell you the truth, IDK why, but i feel that you're a better friend, naybe it's because we have almost the same age, we're both married and we have childrens, (thanx God..), and i like you as your voice is very good, well IDK, but i think you got it..
    I've told you about my accident with my motorbike, which left me with my left (thanx God, not right..), paralysed all the way from my shoulder to my fingers. Those days i played bass in a group. and these was my musical background..Oh. i also i had 4 years at playing a roland psr 40, from musical sheets, but these happened when i was about 10 years old...I remember the first years when the class was on solfege...)
    Any way, after the accident i figured out that electronic music was the only way to go ,and after that you know...
    And also, because i had already kinda have enough gear to make music with no computer...) which i bought in 4 to 5 years. And my father sold his last piece of land, and ny pocket saw smth that it doesnt sees often, what often, even rare, heh...), so i took a super mint mv 8800 (with maximum ram, but it wasnt tis that it makes me to take it, but the condition, it was like new, wiyh no overrating, the guy sent me also his monitor, and i know that a monitor costs only 20 euros, but is the move, everything from start to thend) and also i buy an akai 3000 xl, and a behringer pro 1...what a sound , i dont have words..
    And though i'm a synthesizer guy, i changed to make the pro 1 to a pro 2..*i mean that i figure out how to sample it...*
    But this MV, what a machine, eh ? You know it better than almost everyone...
    And of course, you know who makes me to buy it, heh....
    Well, if you made it till here, youre a hero...Well anyway, forgive me, i'm about to finish..
    Music .....I like electro funk, period from about 1979 to 1987, italo disco, as it's called today, ,old goa psy about (1992-2000), Mark Alen, Jodi Shidu, Juno Reactor (only his fiirst tracks), well, Man with no name, Tsyoshi, and the likes...of course synth pop, i was a fan of Duran Duran, but i never admitted it, heh...
    But also i had my black period in my life, when i was a metalhead, and hardcore as fuck...Well, there's no reason to talk about this, the only *good* from the whole situation is that i didnt make anyone (except my family), but myself...Any fuckin way...
    Now i have make a rig (but i'm waiting my lovely father of my wife, he will make me a moving shelf!!!!!, and of course i'm not having all the things plugged in, but the nost pieces are..so a Roland D 50, a Roland JP 8080, a Roland MV 8800, a Roland TR 8, a Roland XP 50, a Yamaha RM1X, a Novation BS 2, an Akai S 3000 XL(with maximased and a Rack which have a CD, A Hard disk with the amazing 34 MB, or GB, i don't remember, oh and a pile of CDs, CDroms...) anyway, the Behringer Pro 1(sound machine), and all these not all now, but the 3/4, are going to a Yamaha MG 166 CX USB, a mixer that i loe it's eq, FXs, and the touch of quality it has...
    I also have another one, a Behringer xenyx X1222 USB, nice one for the money, i like its compressors, but the quality is
    well,meh...but anyway, if you're careful it's fine..
    My monitors are the Tannoy, the red ones, which needs an amplifier, 90's stuff..
    The amplifier is a Yamaha AX 496, 210 Watts...I never understand if it's tha monitors, is it the amp, or a golden couple, cause the sound is...WTF, i dont have words...everyone who listen to this are looking if i have sub hidden...heheh..
    BUT, I continue, and...
    If you stiil reading and haven't say *this guy is really, really crazy...*, because the akai has 10 outputs ans 2 master, total 12...so it could be a really good pair...*You know, with the xenyx mixer*.. And...
    My main problem is that my main sequencer is the Yamaha RM1X, and i know it very well, i can't take it out of the rig (i use it as my main midi brain sequencer in the rig, not it's sounds), cause i'm a fuckin snob, it can sound very good with a bit of tweaking,anyway...I dont have a patch bay, cause the roland A 880 you have, for example was going for 220 euros from Japan, without the shipping..Hm, Hhm, i guess it's only for the snobs, heh, what do you think...?? HehHehHeh...Roger i didnt mean to insult you, maybe you want some more than a simple midi thru and midi switcher, you know, just kidding....
    So i bought from ebay (from Belfast..WTF..) a simple midi thru for 7 outs ,and a midi switcher, which goes to the IN of the sequencer, and then choose from one of the 5 keyboards, drum machines you like to get in...but it's not a midi merge too, just one of the 5..and the knob is like moog, boss and other companies of the time too....
    And over all, my main purpose was to not use a computer in my music, allover the way...
    Ok, i must stop, sorry for the book i gave you to read...
    Cause we of course we love our child, our wifes, but managed to make some time for our lovely hobby...
    So sorry again, really, but at these years you dont open your to anyone, do you..???(Well this is very English, isn't it...???)
    All of my love to you Roger, to your family and the people you love...
    With all of my true love,
    Patrick..(Patroklos in Greek).
    Again i apologise
    PEACE\\\

    This is so great..however, whenever I create a new project, it defuakts to pattern mode, and I see no way of switching to song mode.

      Thanks for asking.
      Check System. There you can select to startup in pattern or song mode.
      I thought it was on Global but I’m not behind my MV now.
      I will show this in my live stream on Sunday.

    my mv seems to be 'blank'. is there a factory disc that will restore the factory settings and sounds?

    • @theMIDImaniac
      @theMIDImaniac  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi!
      So you’ve a formatted MV with all folders but no sounds?
      On the website of Roland you can download some kits: www.roland.com/es-es/support/by_product/mv-8800/updates_drivers/
      www.roland.com/us/support/by_product/mv-8000/
      You’ll find the factory patches too.
      Just drag and drop them from a computer to the HDD of your MV.

    Can the MV 8800 VGA be connected to the modern HD/4K TV Monitors??

    • @theMIDImaniac
      @theMIDImaniac  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the HD/4K takes VGA then it's easy.
      If not then check this video where I talk about an adapter to connect an MV to an HDMI-screen.

    Good evening. I’m having an issue where after I sample some drums, save it to a patch, assign it to a midi track I don’t hear my drums when I hit the pads. What am I doing wrong?

    • @theMIDImaniac
      @theMIDImaniac  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello!
      Check where you’ve put the sample on which patch. Activate that patch on the midi track.
      Also, check on which pad bank they’re located. Per patch there are 6 pad banks.
      Hope this helps

    wish I could have figured this out. i dont think mine came with any sounds at all, all the folders seem to be empty. i did get it to sequence outgoing midi, but only once, and very very difficult, couldnt figure out how I got it to work and couldnt figure out how to edit the midi on that screen. I still have it, its just taking up space.

      Stephanie Garcia normally you can find these features under the Command-button (mostly F5)
      If you choose Sample Edit then under Command.
      You can find this also in the MV-8800 Screen Guide under page S-132.

      Bueno, para conectar un PC a la MV para samplear necesitas un cable audio. Jack mini 3.5" para tu ordenador a TRS-JACK a tu MV.
      Un cable como este www.thomann.de/es/cordial_cfy_3_wpp.htm?glp=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAs5eCBhCBARIsAEhk4r5stHIWGonu0EPopmcWPxpE7Mw0mtfdeWd074Holb-C5JCKEOa5pFMaAtwfEALw_wcB

    this thing is just....crap. I go to global settings, and audio input is set to optical. I dont want optical, I want line. but the selection is greyed out, so I CANT choose line in. holy cow how did you learn to use this thing. its about to get chucked out the window lol

      Wait, seriously? Which window and I will be outside to catch it.
      But hey...this is fudged up. It should be easy to select the analog in.
      I had this weekend the MV open and there I saw all connectors. Perhaps the connector of the analog-ins is disconnected and therefore not possible to select.
      It's like adding the MV8-op1. Once connected it becomes visible.
