When I was 12, I begged my much older brother, whom I was visiting out of town, to buy me this 45 rpm single. Instead, he bought me the whole CTA album. My mind was blown, and the rest is history...a 50 year love affair with this bands incredible music was born.

I remember the first time I heard the full song with the piano introduction, it made me like the song even more. Radio stations never played the complete version. The radio stations in my area hardly played Chicago songs anyway.
I’ve never felt Chicago got the recognition they deserved. Took what seemed like a lifetime to finally be inducted into the Rocknroll Hall of fame.
Just an absolute shame Terry is no longer with us to participate. I was fortunate enough in 1976 to see my first Chicago concert with all the original members. It will always be my most memorable for another reason also.

Yes, indeed I still love this band's sound. It is 2024 and I am still a fan. A few nights ago I watched a documentary about them. Their story is amazing with some sad times. They finally were inducted into the Rock/Roll Hall of Fame. I was born in 1950. I think the '60s and '70s had the best music.

Absolutely. I tell people that the best era of music was between 1964 -- the British invasion -- until right about 1990-ish, maybe 1992.
The 60's, 70's, and 80's were THE best era for music. The krappe produced today cannot hold a candle to the music of those good ol' days.

Believe me, they were NOT underrated. I was 12 when this song was released. Chicago was one of the maybe very top American rock bands of the early 70's. Both in sales and critical acclaim. They were the very top.

    • @kristiemao4275

Not underrated at all. This band was popular for a span of three decades. You all just didn't know about them, because you aren't old enough to remember when Chicago played on the radio. Peter Cetera (the lead singer) went on to have a solo career in the 80s.

I grew up in Detroit in the fifties with Motown just cutting its teeth and as a teenager in the 60's when CTA first broke loose from the psycadelic sound and distanced themselves from everyone .Better than The Beatles ,The Stones , more musically diverse than any band of that time. The set the standards of what a full band could, should sound like. Admired by all bands, black and white , they were the lions roar of the time.Sold out concerts everytime, everywhere !😎 MUCHLOVE .....BOOMSHAKALAKA!!!

The Greene Brothers Band's horn section, from HTX USA, do a pretty good rendition of it. I am their new drummer and it is on the set list for tomorrow's July 4 gig. The 5/4 timing in the beginning parts is a little tricky but doable.

@@cashmooreproductionsllc267 Yup. He (Lamm) wanted to write something completely different, not blues, and give the horns a chance to shine. The song is about time and he plays with time. His piano intro is freestyle and the intro continues with each measure changing time sig. from 7/8 to 9/8, making it sound "out of sync", then several measures in 5/4, resolving to a walking 4/4 for the rest of the tune. It's fabulous and he does it without making it sound complicated or dense. It sounds happy-go-lucky. Love it.

I was in FM radio in the 70's in Chicago and got to play this on the air. Even then, as a 'kid," I knew it was magic. That and getting to listen to Fleetwood Mac's "Rumors" album before it showed up in record stores and trying to figure out with other in the station what to play on the air. WOW. I was SO fortunate and I am just happy to know I was listening to real art at the time I experienced it for the first time...never mind decades later.
