In this video, I teach you the format of a discharge summary and, more importantly, the exact information that needs to be in it. After this, you'll be writing stellar discharge summaries as a medical student in no time!

That's a nice looking discharge summary, would be a nice one to see while I'm in clinic for hospital discharge follow-up hahaha :) Not all discharge summaries are quite as . . . useful hahaha

I had a complicated patient. Did the problem list style. Resident said to do it paragraph style. I see the validity of both styles, but it's always a good idea to ask what style the resident/attending wants so you use your time well.

Totally agree! There are definitely exceptions/stylistic differences. A lot of succeeding in clerkships is really just learning how to adapt quickly to new preferences, for better or for worse!

Great video with lots of nice tips. I first learned how to write discharge summaries as a student using MEDITECH EHR. The final generated note came out looking very similar to the one you showed. I love reading and prefer writing discharge summaries like this.

I'm so sorry I don't have this file anymore! I'll be sure to link examples in the future. I can definitely see how that would be useful. Thanks for watching!

Content value always on point but I wanted to say the EDITING is becoming more killer with each video. Can't wait to read discharge summaries on my outpatient medicine rotation next week!!
