  • This is a 5 day/4 night backpacking trip through the Goat Rocks Wilderness in Washington State's Southern Cascades. I go about this trip solo thru hot the dry conditions of mid-August. Being my first time to the Goat Rocks, this was a "get to know you" type of backpacking trip. I liked what I saw and want to return again for future adventures in other parts of the Wilderness.

Looked like an amazing hike! I've ln Washington for 30+ years and have avoided the Cascades because of the crowds. I need to force myself one of these years to hike there. Great video! I make videos of my hikes, too. I like your style. Thanks for sharing. Hike on!

Funny, I have never ventured to your stomping grounds of Washington to do any hiking either. A lot has to do with the distance and available time. Looks like there is a lot to do in Washington's Rocky Mountain region and Idaho. Someday I hope to make it there. Until then, I can dream about it by watching your videos. Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed.

So I did almost the same hike in 2012 before the fire. I went in the GRW from Rimrock Lake and camped at teton pass. I climbed Old Snowy on the trip. Also access to GRW via Packwood Lake is very good option. Also the lily basin trail head on the forest road out of Packwood is a great way to access the GRW with out the elevation gain. Great video thanks for sharing.

Thought of you on this hike and your suggestions that I try out the Goat Rocks. I did look at the approach from Packwood Lake as an option but it is still closed down after the fire. Also looked at the Clear Fork of the Cowlitz as another option but didn't want that much elevation gain. What I really want to do is access the wilderness via Conrad Meadows and the South Fork of the Tieton Trail. Know anything about this approach? Thank You for watching and for the tips.

I have never gone that way but it intrigued me as it looked mellow and gave some elevation. Washington State has overwhelmed me with backpacking options. I have been focused on the Olympics for so long maybe next season I should get out to the Goat Rocks and other Cascade options. I have not been to that area since the fires.

Looks like you have been getting to some amazing places in the Olympics though. If I had to pick one spot to adventure in for the rest of my life, it would be the Olympics for sure.
