CPM, I have one bit of advice as a sincere well wisher. You people are the only hope for the poor and marginalised in this war. But you’re terrible at PR. And this is the age of PR. Reach out, show people what you’ve done, use social media, beat them at their own game. Money is a problem, I agree. But you’ll have to adapt to the dystopian world created by the fascists and corner them, beat them.

Couldn't agree more.. my grandfather was a cpim member . Even though I'm not a member of cpm neither i want to be. Since i saw how they work very closely all i can say during their rule(last 5 years or so) the cadre's quality came down drastically they became very arrogant but still can say they probably the most "less corrupt" party in india. Problem with them have always been as you said dot correct is that they are terrible when it comes to PR. They're just incompetent. When you know the delhi channels goin to show pur supreme leader all the time and the regional channels are and have always been the puppets of the state govts you have to acknowledge the importance of social media. Sadly even today i see their leaders saying that they dont need any advertisements ppl will choose them. I mean we live in a country where most part of "silent voters" decide whom to vote for on the basis of who has more chance to win that particular seat it is very imp to use SM as a tool. Since my Grandfather was a cpm member many of my friends think that i blindly press cpm button just few months back when we had an election some of them even told me on my mouth ki I've wasted my vote. This summarize how they see elections. None of them are anti cpm just that cpm Couldn't make them blv that they can win. I personally ask myself before every elections a simple question (who should win) and abv local candidates play a vital role. even though i dont count any communal party.. Sadly ppl like me are in minority.

    • @uguensonam1459

Not possible. In Kerala, CPM and Congress should have some informal understanding without officially allying with one other. In Tripura, they can contest in a pre-poll alliance with Congress. AAP is only present in Delhi and its vote share has been reduced to half in municipal election. The only option in Delhi is for the congress voters to vote for AAP or AAP could form informal understanding with Congress. Punjab AAP voters will be absorbed by Congress. AAP is irrelevant in states where CPM is strong and CPM is irrelevant in Delhi except JNU.

      @rajeevrp1500 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

It entirely depends on how concentrated or spread out your votes are. If you get 99 votes and your opponent gets just 1 vote on a seat, but he gets 51 votes and you get 49 on two other seats, then though your overall vote-share is nearly double than him, he ends up getting double the seats than you. Same thing happened to BJP too in recent Guj election, their vote-share actually increased compared to 2012 but despite of that the seats reduced significantly.

I like how the interview is quite intellectual and incisive rather than a cacophony of loud shouting matches and mean word play like that bumbling babbling baffoon Arnab. Keep up the good work.
Just as an added note: The problem that karat seems to be hinting to with his opposition towards a united opposition is that it would give bjp a grip in areas where it still hasnt a foothold like kerala from where it still hasnt 1 M.P. Afterall BJP got that big a share in tripura as far as i understand due to lack of another coherent opposition to the incumberent CPM.
Because afterall the CPM has to look into at its interests too and losing Kerala too is too big a risk to take at this point.

Dear Mr. Thapar, Interviews are conducted to bring 'New' and 'Different' opinions and ideas to the table. You are a very presentable Interviewer. Does the Interviewee have to mouth the words you want him to? Is it not your purpose to allow the discerning Public to form his/her own opinion about the Person/ Event /or whatever. Rather than deride the Interviewee and browbeat them into agreeing to your point of view let the person's views come to the platform. You are not the only one it is a general trend of the Interviewers in India. It would be interesting to see the famous Frost interviews of Nixon and learn from them.

Mr Thapar probably forgets that Congress is now in such diminishing stage that having any future plan to share common agenda as well as any kind of alliance will easily become a huge liability for any political parties. That's why Sitaram realise keeping equal distance from congress at least gives CPM some moral leg room to say many things on corruption. But sharing stage with currently called bot of indian polity Congress essentially destroy the moral high ground on all aspects from corruption to pseudo secular caste politics .

Mr. Karan Thapar, I believe there should be an Interview etiquette first of all as it is witnessed from the above discussion is unprofessional.... Astonishing !!! In every occasion you are interrupting the interviewee abruptly. First of all request you, please try to know very well "Tripura" being a state in India. As Mr Yechury , mentioned about money power shown/thrown by the existing central Govt while in the recently concluded election in Tripura. That's true/fact. Could you please ask/convey this message to the existing central Govt. from where they got all this monies??? Is the black money actually come back in India and they (BJP party) are using this for the vested political interest, I mean greedy for political power ?? Now in terms of Job, how many Jobs BJP Govt. has created across India since formation of the Govt.??? Even, there are no suitable FDI's in India, nowadays. We have very well drafted constitution In India wherein dual Govt./sharing of Central and state Govt. is mentioned to be precise. Now the question is : if the central Govt. does not share /provide adequate support to the state Govt...how they/state will survive?? If relationship among Central Govt. and state Govt. is in strained cause different political color. .obviously; a state can not prosper. Is that right to equality/equality before the law ?? This is an example of Tripura state. This state always deprived from the central Govt. Shall I ask you, how many times did(Mr. Thapar) you discussed/disseminate the information in terms of "post election" violence across the state?? People household burnt/money looted, extortion, threats to the people those who follow the different political party etc. Please go there and find the reality before screw someone without knowing anything !!!!! It seems that you know every thing about the Tripura State but actually without knowing anything!!!

Communists should leave the concept of stake holders of mass...there is no our people other people,we are the people, into that there is freedom of individual to express its view...lack of young leadership is a major problem & he is right they don’t have the policy or idea upon which the party will walk...its so sad...its ‘movement’ dear comrades, the only thing upon which the concept of communism came upon & live upon...without movement communism can’t survive...

Mr Thapar. Please show some intelligence. In all the interviews you try to paste your words upon the person you are interviewing. Please Mr. Thapar ask questions and let the other person answer it. Honestly, else me and my friends will stop watching the Wire.

Somehow, I found this interview v.funny with attacking jibes from Karan and poor, bemused Yechury smilingly warding them off...Hwr, all Oppn. parties need to sacrifice personal agenda and join hands to combat the BJP, or else if the BJP is allowed another term, both the people & Nation will face lots of manipulation, destruction of autonomous institutions, political vendetta and a dictatorial and autocratic regime....

A question regarding the farmer march.
If you had the money to provide each farmer with a red flag and cap why didn't you provide them with slippers and food?
Actually slippers with your party's name on them would've been better :)

Kartavya Asthana what a idiotic thing they are not in the power in Maharastra to solve the problem of Farmers. For people like u when farmers quietly suicide under their loan pressure thats ok but when they do protest wearing red cape and holding red flag u blame communist who r not even in the opposition of Maharastra Assembly. U can't ask the question from Sanghi sarkar i.e u keep asking question from a party who are left in one state only.

Dubey Production Firstly, lone waiving is the worst thing for any economy and society. But that's another thing, let's leave it.
I never blamed the laal gang for the condition of farmers or defended the Fadnavis government. All I'm asking is what's the point of making those poor, frustrated and suicidal farmers to walk hundreds of kilo metres without slippers, food and water, but with red flags and caps. And after that posting photos of their bruised foot on social media.
