Thanks for sharing. A very interesting topic, indeed. It would be very helpful, however, if you could provide a western transcription of your sources' titles.
I actually thought what story I Heard was that when Japan invaded Okinawa they out law all practices that's when the Okinawa started making some type of kata or dances that had concepts that were hidden in the kata .
I when I was 8 yrs old , I practiced Nisei Goju-Ryu. Im currently on a journey to find out more about it and reconnect and relearn. Any help would be great . Recommended books to read anything would help thanks
I literally cannot thank you enough for making this video, I've always been extremely curious to not only the origins but purpose of kata.

Hey, are you located in nyc by any chance? I also used to train in Nisei Goju
Explain with some Pictures
See bubhishi
doesn't Meibukan Goju-Ryu have four unique corresponding kata that make two man drills?
Yes we do have the Meibuken kata but there are 5. The Tenchi kata just contains but attacks and defence roles. The other four are pairs.
Wait, we can't just throw first time students into full contact sparring? 😮
Great video, looking forward to the next one.
