Could someone please enlighten me and explain why it would make any difference if the motor (and its pulley) were 2 or 3mm closer to the spool pulley? Its not like that's gonna change the gear ratio, so why would it be quicker?
@@pattonhobbies5347 In regards to Diem Turner's question: The tooth count on the belt doesn't alter the gear ratio between the pinion and spur pulleys. Running a 50 tooth belt or a 100 tooth belt will yield the same ratio.
@@georgegonzalez9281 That was my point. My question was why he tries to get the pinion and spur as close together as possible. Does a longer belt have more elasticity making the power transfer spongier than if it were on a short leash?
@@diemturner5755 Probably to keep the motor as close to the centerline as possible. Also running a longer belt can cause the motor mount to flex which is probably not a good thing. But as you have surmised, the pinion/spur ratio stays the same regardless of the length of the drive belt.
@@georgegonzalez9281 Although I can't quite follow how a longer belt would incur motor mount flex (the applied torque should be very near to or the same as we both agree that the gear ratio does not change with a longer belt ergo motor mount flex should neither increase nor decrease - the only reason I stipulate the possibility of the torque possibly only being near to is because I do not have a full understanding of possible increase in elasticity due to more belt being available to "stretch", my presumption however is that torque applied to the drive train should remain the same) I do appreciate you engaging with my attempt to understand what Patton was saying about trying to keep the belt as short as possible :-) I do not rule out that there is something he has learned from real life experience that would seem contrary to normal physics yet have a perfectly good explanation that goes beyond a cursory understanding of physics (sometimes objects just behave contrary to what common sense would dictate because real world compounds multiple factors to produce a result that is more than the sum of its parts). But all he said was less teeth which, sorry Patton I'm not throwing shade, is just a bit too captain obvious and didn't answer my question in any meaningful way. Godspeed, Diem

Sell it to bro belts can strip as can gears is this system in your experience better for drag scene or speed runs obviously speed runners are running longer distance than drags.

Shim out the center spool, and make sure the grub screws sit below the pulley so that they don’t touch the belts.
