Guys, what a fantastic topic you've taken and managed to disclose! This definition of fusion deserves to be written on wikipedia.

Two absolute beasties of the guitar world. Im lucky enough to have seen and meet Tom and he is so down to Earth its amazing. Seeing him play his lovely legato live is just beyond amazing. He played with Martin Miller and he is an amazing beasty with the guitar. That was a great day and at the end of it all I won a Laney Ironheart Amplifier in the Andertons lucky dip competition. Just have to try and meet Andy...Not yet though...thanks covid...Peace people and keep on playing..

Sublime. I imagine most of us start by being captivated by a specific sound or style. For or me, it was Johnny Winter. The "And Live" album and the weird 3 sided LP "Second Winter" were it for me. My rock playing, my blues playing, my slide playing. That started around age 14. It was many years before I started expanding my vocabulary. But I did. And now, some 40+ years later, I think I have my own style. But truth be told, behind every note I play I know there is a Johnny Winter, or Steve Vai, or Eric Johnson, or EVH, or SRV, or .... someone who inspired me. And lately, its been Andy Wood. I never played so many runs using b3rds, 3rds, b5s, and 5s in my life as I have in the past few months after latching on the Woodshed. I know its been around forever, but the music never grabbed me. But those Suhr sessions with Ben that I stumbled across one day have made a fan for life. Thanks!

Hey Andy. I'm originally from Memphis Tennessee...I had this friend who is no longer with us. At the time, my knowledge of the guitar wasn't good enough to understand what he was doing. First time i met him was at Strings & Things in Memphis,,around 1982. His name? Shawn Lane,,, would you please do an episode on Shawn, you guys are talking about fusion. To me...Shawn was the epitome of Fusion

I have never got into fusion in large part because i misunderstood what it isn't. It isn't one thing. So this was great for me

Last year whilst shopping for a PRS SE with a roasted maple neck looking through demo videos on the tube, I came across a Dawson's video and the salesman on that video did this super accurate legato thing... It kinda blew my mind, how could a salesman play like that!? That salesman was Tom!
Your musical knowledge memory and picking ability also blows my mind! Cool videos cheers 👍

I suggested it yesterday...a record Wood/Quayle, something like the concept of Cacophony, but blending your two styles
With today's technology it shouldn't be too hard
And maybe with some guest here and there...like Asato, Brewster or all the other great musicians/guitarists of your era

I think it was initially an attempt to get more respect for rock/blues as a 'legitimate' form of music, such as classical and/or jazz. When players started fusing some jazz and classical elements, it was clear that those rock/blues players could also 'handle' elements of classical and jazz, to standards of playing close to specialist jazz or classical players. Some jazz and classical players and composers also started including rock/blues elements. Gershwin and Delius were early classical/jazz fusion composers.

Imo, one of the most underrated fusion musicians of our time is a guitarist named Guillaume Muschalle. He's an incredible player. th-cam.com/video/PIYrlv2gzE8/w-d-xo.html
