The distortion was necessary because it tells a different story: it’s the narrative of the shadow itself talking and threatening min yoongi. So the distortion depicts chaos. Music itself is good, but you know what’s better??? His music tells us a STORY. Damn yeah it better gets that 97 Jino
You can't separate BTS' lyrics from their music, it's like having a whole meal in front of you and just tasting the salad and saying "it's good" when there's so much more flavor for you to taste and be completely delighted. His loss, i guess...
Can we appreciate how the boys are always changing up their musical style for each comeback? Yoongi kills this song and it's so emotionally deep - he looks quite vulnerable during some points which makes me want to wrap him up in a great big hug. I can't wait to see what the rest of the album is going to bring next.
If i were talking purely sound-wise, I also don't particularly like the distortion at the end. But when put into the context of the lyrics and the theme of what he's trying to convey. It's perfect. He had just refered to his shadow as a monster and that part is from his shadow's perspective so the distortion very much reflects that and I think it's genius.
That was my initial reaction too since I wasn’t looking up lyric translations when I first gave this song a listen. But maaan, when I got full concept of this, I was just blown away.
I was waiting for you Jino!!! By the way, The last part is distorted because it's the shadow speaking to Yoongi. Hence, the need for differentiation. Also yes, Yoongi wrote it and co-produced it along with El CAPITXN, Pdogg, GHSTLOOP. The track he sampled is BTS's 2013 "intro: O!RU8,2?".
If you do read the lyrics you’ll understand why that distortion was there. It’s his shadow talking to him. This era is based on Carl Jung’s Map of the soul book.
diopatra80 I’m well aware. But he almost never listen to the lyrics! He was a DJ so he’s listening for the instrumentals. Did you even watch his reaction? He himself said I didn’t listen to the lyrics.
dian hasbur I know where he’s from. But he almost never listens to the lyrics! He was a DJ so he’s listening for the instrumentals. He himself said I didn’t listen to the lyrics.
I think the distortion is for added intensity, because it's his shadow talking to him. Whereas the first half is him just talking about his shadow. Also I'm the same as you Jino haha. Sometimes when a song switches beat I'm like "ew disgusting, my vibe just got ruined". But in this song it's done so good!!!! I love it!!!!!
Team ADORABLE Team Yoongi i love it too that distortion puts the song as a one whole story... first part- talking about his dreams, second part- his insecurities and inner conflicts .. third part- his shadow/ inner self talking to yoongi to accept his imperfections his insecurities because all of these are part of him
This song is really good. there is probably going to be another comeback trailer called ego. i liked this reaction, and same i could go on listening to this 1000 times.🔥👏🏻
Yoongi is saying although he wanted all these things being a rich, superstar, rock star, and being at the top. After reaching everything, he is afraid and scared. He was not ready for the loneliness at the top and what might happen if he falls. It is a constant fight with his inner self.
Shelling P also he said he never wanted to be famous. After being so high up on the mountain of success, of course it is scary! But all these parts, present, past, persona, shadow, ego, are all parts of himself that cannot be shook off
The mv is 10x more powerful when you read the lyrics. They explain what the song is about and why Yoongi would've used the distortion. If your shadow had a voice what would it sound like? His shadow got pretty aggressive in the end providing a very haunting sound. But the message is clear - to grow you have to accept your shadow and overcome your fears.
Hey great reaction. For this intro it's Suga's battle with his shadow and on the switch up at the end it's his shadow singing back to him letting him know that they are the same person and that he'll be better if he just accepts it. Also it is how people want to be famous but then comes the craziness of sasaengs (stalkers), paparazzi, haters and the fear of falling from Grace.
I waited all day for Jino’s reaction. Lol....no one was ready for this 😚 I don’t think I’ve seen Jino this flustered before...or pause so much....lol. And then....oh, ok....well just watch it 100 times together 😁
@@babydoll2k5 oh definitely, i prefer it, but also i've noticed some yt reactors pause so unnecessarily even when they haven't got anything of substance to say. and i'm not talking abt pausing for copyright reasons ofc, that's different
I knew you wouldn't like the distortion but that's the point. It's his shadow speaking to himself. There is a lot of theories and I don't have the time nor the words to nuance them all and fit them here but yah yoongi is insane. Insanely talented
Jino their comeback always had a trailer and it doesn’t seem like a little bit of the main single but a whole new song sang by one of them to introduce the album’s theme and concept this is genius so now every album has a solo sang by one of them as a trailer to the album for example serendipity was a trailer sang by jimin to their album love yourself: her
And it’s produced and wrote by our genius Suga himself. The reason why the lyrics it’s about him pouring his heart out, being an idol and famous with his greed and his fear of being one
The whole evening I was wondering when Jino would step in and react to this masterpiece. Here you came:-) It gets better and better with every time I listen to it. The whole composition of the song and video are so greatly paired together. Suga is a master story teller and I wonder how much of the song is his own doing because I can clearly hear loads of AgustD in it. My bias who doesn´t by his own words care about dancing or singing and does both on top of stellar rapping and lyrics writing superbly. He is also the one that affects me most with his voice. His emotions come across so well.
I NEVER EXPECT THAT YOU WOULD LOVE IT!!!THANK YOU JINO!! FOR YOUR 2 CENTS!! HUGS & KITHES FROM MALAYSIA! YES!! ALL CAPS BCOS I STILL NOT RECOVERED FROM THE EXCITEMENT!
Thank you for saying they are not Kpop, because that's just facts. Also, the sound distortion at the is for the effect because that was the Shadow (Yoongi's shadow) talking to Suga (Yoongi's persona). Also, Comeback Trailer for BTS' albums are usually done just by one member, they alternate. MOTS Persona was RM, Love yourself Answer was Jin, Love Yourself Tear was Singularity etc etc. The lyrics on this video is deep, it gave me goosebumps. I came across this comment on another video and I share their sentiment so I will share it here with you. As the song's name suggests, the theme of this song revolves around the internal battle he struggles with - his Persona and his Shadow. His persona craves success, hence the recurring verse "I wanna be a rap star, I wanna be the top, I wanna be a rockstar, I want it all mine, I wanna be rich, I wanna be the king, I wanna go win". His shadow shuns from spotlight, afraid of the dark side of fame, hence "Please don't let me shine, Don't let me down, Don't let me fly". When the beat switches up, the feel the of the song changes - it turns wilder, more frantic, more uncontrollable. In this part of the song, he accepts the fact that the shadow is a part of himself, that his feelings of craving success while wanting to escape the toxicities of fame are valid and inescapable. This whole song is a dialogue between his two selves. The scenes in the MV hold great symbolism: - The opening scene of the hotel hallway shows faceless silhouettes facing the doors of the hallway, representing their absolute lack of privacy and the oppressiveness they must feel all the time. The red slime-like thing around the doors references an art piece by artist Anish Kapoor, and can be taken to mean that he loses parts of himself with every door that he has to go through. - The hands reaching out to pull him under, his resigned sigh, the countless phones in the air pointing towards the performer SUGA high-up on stage (his Persona) while the human Min Yoongi trudges amongst them unseen below (his shadow), his soft "I wanna be me". This song is a reminder of their lives behind the glamour. It is not a flex nor a lament, but a raw portrayal of the truth. As always, Yoongi never fails to deliver good music and thought-provoking lyrics.
no no no jino lol that last part with his voice distorted makes sense because in the first half he is talking about his feeling about being in the light but the last half with his voice distorted it is not him speaking but his shadow
I think the distortion was to imply the clash between Shadow and Persona hence the lyrics "I am you, you are me...". In that scene, Shadow was talking to Persona (Suga the artist). FYI, Suga sang in Seesaw and Outro:Tear

Jino singing praises is music to my ears. BTW, what you are talking about are teasers where they show snippet of their single. This one is a trailer so it is a whole song. And yes, Suga is a genius for a reason😉
Holy shit is right!!!!!! I been listen to this beautifully dark song since it came out this morning.. lost count on how many time cause i'm str3aming for BTS.. no not Kpop, it's BTS-pop..also yes Yoongi can sing (seesaw).. love this song so much...the lyrics are beautiful and sad.. make my heart ached.. preordered the whole set as soon as it came out last nite.. can't wait for feb 21st...
I wasn't ready just like you even though I was expecting Yoongi or Hobi already. I was supposed to watch this when I got home but when I peeked and saw 408 views I couldn't resist.
