Does the tenshin knob make a clicking noise?

How does it apply the break to the spool?
Is it a mechanical mechanism?
Or electromagnet?
I can see how it powers itself to make the noise but how is the break applied?

Shimano Digital Control braking technology utilises a microcomputer to monitor spool speed 1,000 times every second and apply the perfect amount of electromagnetic brake to prevent backlash 👌

Is it mechanically, like a break pad that touches the spool?
Or does it have a battery that charges up and then applies a force with an electromagnet?
