After working up north in -54, I can still say that the coldest I have been in my life is when it is 3 degrees and raining from the North East in Newfoundland when the wind is coming right off the salt water. There is nothing you can do or wear to be comfortable in that!
Well... the weight did for sure. We had to reshuffle some items towards the bow to balance out the boat a bit better to maintain a good center of balance/bouancy. As far as the windage - I am guessing it has a bit of an effect but we don't have any baseline to compare it to since we didn't sail Hakluyt before the solar panel carriage was installed. But many boats out there have a similar sized array (when ours is folded in at least) and do just fine. We have learned that we can sail just fine with the array extended out without any truly noticeable affects in winds below 20 knots.
