Dude! This is some killer tenor tone! And a wonderful solo on this beautiful ballad! I’d buy everything if I thought I could sound like this, but alas, I have to shed more. Seriously, nice video and great playing. I really do love your tone. I have not considered a large chamber piece, but maybe I will give the large chamber Theos a look. Thanks!
Thanks so much! I'm going to be doing some beginner sax videos as school starts, but I'm looking forward to doing all levels as the year progresses. I'd love to do a book - so many amazing artists have done such great books that I don't know if I could keep up. But it would be fun to try!
Just beautiful. You are one of my main references. Could you explain to a saxophone beginner (well, sort of beginner. I´ve been playing no less than 6 weeks! :D) the process you follow to prepare a song? How you "work" it before going for it and recording these wonderful performances? Maybe this could be a topic for another video?
Hi Javier - thanks so much, that means a lot! Good idea - I might do that. Generally, it's a pretty short prep. I generally play a new mouthpiece for 20-30 minutes, and then pick a song and just go for it. I like to have real blow through the mouthpiece, even if it's not perfect, so that people can hear how the equipment plays in real life. Thanks so much!
@@schmittmusicsaxophoneshop4451 thanks for the reply. Maybe I didn´t explain myself 100% correctly. I meant starting by how you "learn" the song and then how you decide for an improvised line or another from the multiple options you might come up with. But the actual preparation for the recording process as you mentioned is also definitely interesting.
Eastman 52nd ...if you can get past the fact that it's a Made In Taiwan horn....clearly you can get good sounds from...along with the right mouthpiece/reed...and skills. Well played!!! Affordable horn priced just above a "student" and just below an entry-level Pro sax...
As someone who picks up and plays a lot of tenors, do you notice particular playability differences between the different modern brands, or modern vs vintage? Do you have a particular horn that you would personally favor picking up and playing if you were just going to practice? Why?
It's not bad! Really, if you just swab it out after playing, and occasionally wipe it down with a dry cloth, you should be good. The horn will naturally darken and patina over time, but if you just leave it that way, the patina will protect it from any deterioration.

Your playing makes the mouthpiece live up to its billing.
Thank you!!
I keep coming back to listen to this over and over. I think this is easily the best I've heard on this song.
Thank you so much! That's really nice to hear. :)
Good lord what a sound!
Thanks again! :)
Warm smokey sound but with some edge too. There's also something unique about this sound which I really like. More please :)

Bravissimo
Ps: is there something of Last tango in Paris , at the end?
great, many congratulations
Hmm...maybe not on purpose, but I think you're right! :)
This song and sax player made me buy the Theo Wanne Ambika IV in 7* from JL Winds in New York City…..

@@javierm_uk1588 That makes sense. I'll see what I can come up with! Thank you!
Yep I get it now. I can see why people are dropping their Mk 6 selmers for these. Very nice.
Yeah, they compete with pretty much anything!
Schmitt Music Saxophone Shop I currently have a Keilwerth SX90r as my tenor but I am being drawn to these horns lately. I like their look too.
WOW!! Sounds just like the old - time tenor players - awesome! What horn do you have there?
Thanks a lot! That's an Eastman 52nd Street.
Очень круто
Sounds amazing. What strength and type of reed?
Thank you! I believe it was a LaVoz Medium.

May I know if this is Ambika 1, 2 or 3 model? You sound warm and sweet :-)
Is this the second verion of 52nd street? Thank you

I've never owned an unlacquered horn. What's the upkeep to prevent brass deteriorating?

Is a 7* hard to blow in?
Thanks
It's not too bad, as long as you don't go too hard with your reed - I thought it was pretty free blowing overall. Thanks!
@@schmittmusicsaxophoneshop4451 thank you very much for your replaies.
is this a three?
sounds great but please no added reverb... makes a nice recording but not a true representation of the sound
Such a nice sound and playing. Which generation of Ambika is it?
