This tutorial was absolutely fantastic!! I agree!! Just what I have been looking for, for months. I've watched a lot of tutorials, and none of them really dealt with curves and layers like this. I'm working re-creating a realistic mountain city, and there are not many straight lines. I've had the problems with everything you have showed here, and now I know how to deal with it!! Thanks so much!!
Thank-you, this is the kind of tutorial I need to watch, understanding the pros and cons of elements (decals, props, procedural objects, etc...) so I can manipulate them to get the result I want. I'll have to look over your video list for other tutorials like this? ;-)
I learned so much about decals and PO from you, BUT now it seems I have a tip FOR YOU. 1. You CAN get more precise with PO using the arrows keys. The ALT-SHIFT steps are not clean divisions of the ALT steps (at least for me), so you can alternate between them to get pixel-perfect. I show this at 3 minutes, and then talk about it at 3:14 in this video: th-cam.com/video/XKxCsJLznvg/w-d-xo.html This is critical for when you want to place carefully first, and adjust later. An alternative that is similar to your dragging trick is to hold alt+shift + arrow key for a little since the possible steps may be smaller than what you can do when single-tapping with ALT-SHIFT. It's more random and needs more trial and error and I"ve only had to use it when I do some seriously close-up work. The Alt / Alt-Shift Jiggle should be enough for everyone. 2. No, you can select overlapped stuff with Move It. When you have something selected (maybe even hovered?) use Ctrl+Tab (or change the keybind) to "Step Over" and rotate through everything else under the cursor. Awesome tutorial. It was your PO work that made me realize I should be able to finally do everything I've always dreamed of doing in a city builder.
awesome tutorial , were looking on how to best position my decals for my city and bonus you were using procedural object also, that was another tutorial i needed , all in one video, great work akruas. nice and understandable.
wow - this was great! answering a lot of my questions about decals. and even the stuff, which was quite advanced for me, was still understandable! THANKS!
hello ! great tutorial, but can you explain how you are using the move it for decals page up and down? 6:54 minutes. because i can do it only if the decal is a PO to change hight. and always great work thx!
Great tutorial. But I have one question. In my game I can't put higher or lower any decals, when I press Page Down or Page Up. Can You tell me why or what I'm doing wrong?
I noticed in some of your videos you use a tool which looks like a ruler one flat one is at an angle, what is that called? Always great videos, kudos for your work.
Hello Akruas! Am new to the game. In your tutorial pressing PgUp or PgDn slowly fades the decals even without PO. Now when using MoveIt my decals do not sink into the ground. Am I doing something wrong? Thank you!
Hello Akruas... Great video! I have to say though, you are so through... that I wish you would do a similar video on using PO in general. I will say, I have never been able to master it... and so it is a waste of memory space for me... the written instructions aren't as clear to me as a video would be. Thank you... Joe
Cities Skylines is becoming more and more of a professional software than just a game with these mods, I feel like I'm studying some course lately with all the new mods coming in 😅 I'm upset that I can't use Node Controller mod because it gives me an error report every time I subscribe to it 😕 I'll be waiting until the developers fix the bugs in it. We need a mod that enables smooth ramp exits of highways.
It's the ruined texture, either convert the thing into Procedural Object or use mods that get rid of that on the whole map, there are options for that in Hide It mod or BOB mod. Or use Surface Painter to just paint it away.
Awesome Tutorial :) thank you. Could you use decals as object for farms? I mean not anymore have farms in the grid? To get more realisitic shapes like I real life :)thanks
Thanks for the theory lesson! Can you incline the decal box (i.e. turn diagonally) in PO to make it better align with the sloped surfaces? If this works, it could help for the hills, as well as for streets.
Can someone help me? I want to put some BIG DECALS with cracked roads, etc on my street, but i want to lower its opacity, how can i do it? also pressing pg up and pg down with move it doesent work
If your Move It works otherwise, then it must work on decals too, the opacity change will only appear near the vertical "edge" of the decal, so keep pressing pg up/down until you see a change. It's possible the decal is so short that one press of pg up/down makes it completely dissapear, so you need to use the finer movements. Also make sure it's actually a decal and you selected the right one to move.
@@TobiasSandow if you run out of limits for props and decals, then your only solution would be to convert existing ones into Procedural Objects because those don't count towards those limits. It's what I did in the video.
25 minutes bro? Just give us the name of the mod and give a 10 minute tutorial like a decent human being. I hope you've learned your lesson from this. You tried your best tho, thanks.
This tutorial was fantastic. Definitely the most comprehensive decal tutorial out there - thanks for making this!
Fluxtrance Bruh how did you watch the video so fast lol

Your research and pedagogical skills are top notch, congrats and I wish you'd make even more in-depth detailed videos like that
I knew the basics, but the in depth PO stuff is very helpful to know.

This tutorial is a lot better than the tutorials on the Cities Skylines channel

I don't know what to explain, it works with Move It too, obviously won't see any change with just one press of pg up/dn.
@@Akruas thank you for your quick answer! it was prop snapping what was missing finally

Is the ploppable asphalt a decal as well? Because you were able to create a fake surface and it didn't align to the terrain
No, it's a surface!

When i place a manicured grass decal on ground it adds brownish texture on the edges and below the decal.. how do i fix that?
