We use it probably a dozen days each year on our small raft.-original review- We got this motor the other day and tested it out. I don't have anything to compare it to, but it seems good to me. It has all the features advertised - the motor housing is metal. We will see how it performs longer term and I will revise this review if needed. Some initial observations:- Good thrust, moves our boat around really well- It comes with a circuit breaker but no switch - so there's no way to kill the motor other than yanking the connection off the battery. I installed an inline switch.- The mount bracket is plastic and I worry it might break- There are a number of plastic parts that I worry about, but the most important ones are metal or some kind of composite
That motor will work pretty good I had a small 18cc motor with a trolling motor prop and it worked great till I blew the motor the flywheel was plastic and it got to hot and melted
Sometimes those small 2-stroke engines get a lot of oil coming out the exhaust and clogging it up, might want to check that and also maybe need to clean the carb
You might actually break your pistonrod, water is way too heavy for this engine. Even 3mm trimmer line could actually do that, more likely to happen with 2-stroke engines smaller than 30cc. Go for a cordless drill instead, fish happy, Greta happy😀
You know this is why I really watch your channel because you didn't think about the rotation of the weed eater versus the propeller and reality is you would like that thing to go back on the other way so it push like a traditional boat motor but it works so

You got the blades on backwards. But I like the fact that you didn't destroy the weed wacker to put a prop on it. You can take the top off and still use it as a weed wacker. Good Tinken
I did this in the early 90s with an green weed eater and a 2 bladed replacement trolling motor prop. It made a lot of wind out of the water but in the water it had bad cavitation issues and then it just bog down and stop. I fixed it by trimming the blade length down little by little until it worked pretty well. The blade length was just under an inch when everything was said and done but it would push my canoe up the river with decent amount of speed
@@skipjames8437 I couldn't guess at a speed but I'd say it was about rowing speed.. if the prop went too far off the center line it made the canoe feel really tippy
Where there drive shaft connects to that sweet motor, it's probably gonna melt. I put a saw blade on my and it ran for about 30mins and was smoking like a greatfuldead concert. Still got them little saplings though.

Dude - if you mounted that at about a 45° angle inside a large leaf blower/vac extension tube/nozzle, you could evacuate all the accumulated stinky silt/crap/algae off the bottom of a water trough in about ten seconds.. Just make sure you aim the outlet AWAY from you LOL. For what its worth, I found a small plastic or resin boat propeller in the clearance aisle at Walmart for nine dollars.

A trolling motor prop has too much pitch. It's designed for more torque at a lower RPM, so it's quiet in the water. The angle drive on a weed eater is 1:1, and those small displacement 2 cycle engines don't have a lot of torque. He did the right thing, making a very shallow pitched blade, so it could turn fast enough to keep from slipping the centrifugal clutch. He just needed to pitch it to the right direction.
It needs reduction gears and small pitch. The 1:1 ratio prop ; engine Outboards have a reduction gearbox. Or use a tiny prop off a radio controlled boat that runs this HP engine.
He had the pitch shallow enough, that it actually would have worked reasonably well. The only trick would be to make sure the prop can spin fast enough, to avoid constant slipping of the centrifugal clutch.
That thing is like 6 or 7 feet long, your going to have to row out for a bit before you can use it, plus that thing will never start while in the water, but it will make a nice fan on hot days if you can stand the noise
It will start just fine: the centrifugal clutch won't load the engine, until the RPM is up. A stop ring can be used to adjust the transom depth of the propeller, it's just that the head will be up there a bit: he just needs to stand up, to pull the starting cord. He'll have to clamp a tiller handle on at a usable height.
Flip the prop around so it will be pushing rather than pulling, if you try and attach it to a boat as it is now, it will reverse. You could also try increasing the pitch of the prop in order to transfer more power into the water.

I noticed that also.The question is, what's better for the angle drive as far as thrust goes?d(it's really easy to turn the whole thing around, and let it pull rather than push, depending on which way the foot is less susceptible to axial thrust from the propeller.
If he used on of the ones that has attachments he could make a mount using a bearing that fits the shaft and mount it to the back or front of a John boat
from a weed choper, you made a water choper...propeller have much more pitch then that.. the basic small engine have 30 degree of pitch, and fast boat have 5 blade with 45 degree..that is why they are "moving"..
U I tried it a few years ago with a home made two bladed prop, and a weed eater brand weed whacker. It was way under powered, and no torque. I was a failure. I think it was like a 18 cc engine.
*DONT DO THIS* without any reduction the 2stroke engine will not be able to work even a small 3inch prop in the water because it cannot achieve the required high RPM. also those engine are AIR COOLED and will burn out if run a long time >1min at high torque low speed.

Way back in the 60's, before the modern trolling motor, my Dad and his friend made them out of windshield wiper motors.

2 blade prop 10 pitch is ideal ! Your 3 blade prop will burn up that tiny motor in NO time !
