Having a second baler for back up is a major bonus

Yeah exactly, better when it can take the broken balers place but borrowing parts is just as quick as switching

    Good morning Doug ☕☕☕
You said morning... I just figured around breakfast/coffee time.
    Not midnight..lol.
We blew up the gearbox on the old 430 a few times.. busted the shafts too .

Yup... Same place they'd break on the 430.. but back then, all the bolts were standard, not metric.
Always figured they would have been better off to put a roll pin in to hold the pipe in place, rather than welding it. One would think they would have come up with a better way by now.. but they just keep selling new shafts... And new balers.
    Thank you Doug!!

I think this shaft just broke because it was rewelded, the shaft im temporarily using is way older and more bales on it so i guessed the temper got wrecked

👍 I've welded tons of things - never had any issues with the temper coming out of anything except me when that damn slag gets in my boot. I still stand strong on welds don't brake if done right. So you cant surface weld a part pike that. You would have to grind in a taper then fill it back in. 😁👍👍👍

Yeah im no metal expert but tempered shaft is something i'm never gonna mess with, yeah ive done frame repairs before with drilling the cracks and notching the repair then maybe fish plate but never shafts

Well that sucks! That’s a damn expensive repair for an already expensive machine. I think my buddy had the same breakdown on his JD 568 but he bales a lot of wet hay and he bought it used. BTW, he keeps a backup baler too.

Thankfully we got this baler way cheaper than market value so these repairs dont sting as bad, yeah silage special balers are heavier all round

Well Doug..... I wonder Dad built up a hex shaft like that on a JD silage chopper and it busted at those welds. You may need to check the adjustment on the slip clutch. When Deere went through my 435 baler years ago they loosened up the slip clutch and reset the tension on it. Look luck, see you Tuesday 😊👍

I’d never been so happy to get rid of a baler as when I sold my john Deere 9 series…….. the bills were getting crazy on it, wasn’t even maintenance related. It was John Deere crap engineering. Now this new JD discbine I bought 5 years ago seems to be headed down the same path………. We are replacing parts that they’d already replaced under warranty.

Yikes, yeah i dont think ill be pushing the number of bales you guys will roll so i wont test stuff near as much, i defo would go Vermeer if i fell out with JD

Hello, I'm back (more on that later). I assume the pipe is to stop fodder wrap? Why weld when there's so many super duper glues out there?

    • @piperdoug428
      @piperdoug428  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

It's to space the shaft up against the bearing, maybe a clamp in it would work just as good

Good morning, Doug. Over thirty dollars an inch. Just as well, John Deere isn't running the inland revenue. We'd be well screwed.

Was at a John Deere yesterday. Looking for u bolt to go around 2.5 inch square tubing for my camper enhancement. They had one. $3.57. Said I need 3 more. The next ones $28.60 each. WTF. Parts guy I know. He said bolts vary in price from a low on tillage and turf to a high on the x-9 combine. Exact same bolt.

Oh its nuts, and you can go to a steel shop n get proper grade bolts for even cheaper
