My channel is just a wee look into life on the Prairies as an immigrant from south west Scotland, you'll see some grain farming some cattle farming and a whole bunch of wrenching on vehicles of all shapes n sizes, none of these are performed by an expert and do not believe a word he says and most of all,,,, DON'T TOUCH THE BEER FRIDGE. Enjoy.

Good morning, Mr and Mrs Piper Doug. Hondas are good, but nothing lasts forever. The new phone looks sharp on quality. Cattle and sheep prices are good from what some of our customers are saying. It's only really the arable farmers that have been hard done by. Last spring was quite wet and cool. 👍
Spread them.....the political promises, lol😁😂. RIP Honda😟!
Ah, My weekly 'poop' video... Morning/Afternon Doug. question...Do stink bugs actually stink?
Yup.. the old rod bearings only last so long once they start talking... I like the higher prices, but it's a catch 22.. had a couple of long time steer customers complain last year. And our prices here, aren't near what they are everywhere else.. even when you consider the conversion...
Morning Doug ☕️☕️...nice and clear on my end...got a touch of frost this morning

Thanks for the update Doug.
It doesn't seem long since you were preparing for summer and now you're preparing for winter. A carousel of work.

Haha, oh she hung the moon that one, lol. yup the campaign trail will be long, haha

Looks like you’ve got your hands full of political promises to spread yet. Making a dent in it though 👍
Haha, i cant spread it as fast as our leader tho eh
Keeps on with the fall showers here. This combining stuff is really dragging out. About caught up on my bale hauling though, 300 bales of greenfeed left to move , one good day would wrap that up.
Yeah its lots of starts n stops for grain guys here too, just change rigs for you farm n ranch guys

Good morning, Mr. and Mrs. Piper Doug. I don't think wete going to get more than high teens for temperature from now on. Im not sure about the rattle on your tractor. We used to use a 414 mcormick, which was loud. 👍
Yeah these yoyo temps will just go lower, as long as it isnt sudden im good lol.
I talked to so many of my farmer buddies over the past few years about trying new things, running conservation trials, researching ways to lower input requirements. Almost to a T met with ridicule each time. I said many, many times how they will be selling $3-$4 corn again someday. Always met with a chuckle. One guy in particular, one of the few I genuinely don’t like, responded that “they” …will… “come up with something.” He was right. “They” are, and guys like me find ourselves with egg on our face for developing practices that make money, even when prices are in the gutter.
Yup and aint it funny the old ways away from modern chems and tech seem to be a safer more profitable way, less dollars per acre but more profit percentage, like Ranching SoDak says "don't take business advice from the guys selling the idea"
@@piperdoug428 old ways, combined with some pretty extreme technology and data management. I do utilize precision planting with delta force. I’m throwing so many challenges at a crop, especially corn. I have to give it a chance however I can.
That's the way it goes! The one thing that's certain, is that nothing's certain!
Haha, words to live by
Spent 6 weeks in Canada with the army mid Sept to October .. it was baking when we go there. Some blokes suffered badly from the heat.. anyhoo, like you mention, one day 30 plus degrees.. we ‘bashered up’(put our ponchos up for the night in a sliver birch wood line/the leaves were green) Next morning it was about 10 degrees, all the leaves were yellow. Two days later.. no more leaves. The change was dramatic and we went from ‘summer’ to ‘winter’ clothing. Albeit British winter clothing.. IIRC that was up in Wainright..
Forgot to add.. GRAFTER!! Keep safe Doug..
haha, ye never quite get used to it, and yeah just as the colors are beautiful yer sure a huge wind will strip it off by the time ye take the picture, cheers bud
Good morning Piper Doug another great video thank you for sharing hope you feel better soon
That's for sure annoying with the gophers🤔🫤!
Yeah and the dampness makes it double trouble
😄✌☕
cheers
We used to bale rounds behind a few rotaty machines with straw choppers inside. Just gotta do it at night.. feeds better, holds together better.. and that was way before netwrap was invented..
That's why i'm baling later in the day, man you really have done everything before
@@piperdoug428 Jack of all trades.... Master of none. You know how old I am, I've been running equipment since I was 5.. and working on equipment a few years after.. building equipment by 14. Damn I'm OLD!!!

67 in a half mile.. you're still a small time gopher farmer. I don't even try to count mounds. Just count the hundreds of thousands of times the tractor pulls down in every field.
if you slow your rpm down to 1350 or so it wont loose so much straw.. I bale behind rotors and find that works the best...will still make solid bales
Thanks, yeah i tried running lower rpm but you have to rev up when it goes to wrap as the volts need to be up for the accuators
Good morning Doug ☕️☕️👍

Good morning, Mr and Mrs Piper Doug. Your hay looks good. I take it the rotary combines are popular for ease of maintenance. I think those CAT combines were built in Nebraska. 👍
Happy Sunday Lee ☕️🫖
Hey bud, thanks. Yeah the rotary are slightly cheaper too
They have a rodent blaster that uses propane & oxygen & a remote control spark. They are pricey. $2k but a cutting torch setup with a wired ignition would work to blow those gophers to kingdom come. Millions of farmers are waiting on you to solve this issue. Be that guy. 😁
When you use the straw from the rotary, it'll spread out well for bedding. That hay is quite green, will it need wrapped?
Yeah it'll broadcast really easy and as manure it'll go out just as easy too, the hay is dry it just hasnt bleached so it's holding its colour really well
Are you allowed to control them?
Yeah we can but poisons are under pretty strict regulations
Like strychnine for moles I suppose.
Hey Doug , thought it was my tablet acting up but started reading comments and had a chuckle over that slo mo section. Reminded me of cheech and Chong 🚬. I have that happening too with the netwrap cycling the belts. Now if I see that before kicking bale out, I hit start again and rewrap the bale so it doesn't make a spooched up bale.
Yeah i started rewrapping the ones where a big enough strip tears off
still better than a light speed time lapse 😉
I was having flash backs to Woodstock 🤓
Wow, there is still a lot to cut and to bale left🤔👀💪👍!
Yeah we got more around average bale yield for us now
Morning piper Doug ☕️☕️
Howdy bud
Funny thing I just finished watching your next video and this one was there, complete with a foot a minute framing. I saw on your next video (this is like back to the future😂) that your leaving snow barriers. I thought at first cut you decided not to do that. Not that I'm against your decision as who knows what the weather may be.
Haha, yeah on the big field i didnt bother as i was pretty sure there'll be enough regrowth to catch the snow (and it is coming back good) but this stuff i'm cutting wont come back for sure so i'd rather know it's catching plus if we get a storm from the SE this'll stop the drifts coming into the yard and bale yard so win win
I hear you talking about the last video with editing problem and I was sure there was a video there before this one but I couldn't find it. I'd been busy with repairs and Carolyn's cousin staying with us so I don't know what I've missed. But it looks like you've got good weather and pushing on with harvest.
Haha, a secret video
Keeps showering here….. getting on my nerves. Lol. Just wanna finish combining, but I guess we will switch gears and move 900 bales of greenfeed the next couple days while my brother is around so we can get two kenworths rotating at it. Been knocking in posts and nailing up boards the last few days, but I’ve got to wait for a lift of rough lumber to finish up.
Always a stack of jobs waiting eh, we have a few private mills near us for windbreak boards n such
Man, them gophers are like a plague. That’s brutal. I deal with elk and bears, but that’s not fun there either.
Yeah just spoil all our fun
Good morning Doug ☕️☕️👍

Hi doug! I think I need some of your pills your on. The modern technologi is amazing.🤣🤣🤣❤
bwahaha yup great till it's not
Good morning, Mr and Mrs Piper Doug. It's probably a stupid question. Can you spray against the grass hoppers. 👍
Good morning to you ☕️🫖
@@leeforeman3656 it can be done, but it's expensive and most people don't want to deal with the spray, as it's not good for humans or anything else either.
It's really expensive and only controls them unless you spray early while they're young, but that spray will wipe out all other bugs even the good ones
Good morning Mrs Piper Doug ☕☕☕ sounds like you might have to help Doug edit, seems he's kinda S. L. O. W w w..😅
Hahaha this just might win the internet today 🤣🤣🤣
@@mrs.piperdougcaldwell8421 👍😊😝🤪
Lmao 🤣😂. I was wondering WTF you did to that video.. I figured it was just typical smartass Piper Doug shenanigans 🤔🤪😜😝 Freaking bugs can sure eat a lot!! Grasshoppers are getting a little thick here now, but nothing like you've got them!! I do remember as a kid, a few years that everyone was spraying for them. Started late spring, some sprayed right up to a couple weeks before harvesting. Sure wish we could just spray the gophers, moles and voles out of the fields! Don't see moles in alfalfa here, but gophers love alfalfa, so they're always thick!!
yeah it's expensive to control hoppers and sadly what will slightly control them will kill all other bugs including the good ones. they say the gophers eat the root stem of alfalfa from underneath, i'm gonna talk to some body shops about buckets of glass gravel to pour down the burrows to see if that'll slow them down
@@piperdoug428 burning sulfur and a propane torch.. does pretty good.. just gotta have time to get it done before the crop gets too tall.. or in the fall before the gophers hibernate..
Good morning Doug ☕☕☕
