ABOUT US
Meet the Bags Packed Family: Jonathan and Kelly, along with our three adventurous children. Nine years ago, we embarked on an incredible journey, leaving our home in Alaska, USA, behind to explore the world. As teachers, we were fortunate to find amazing opportunities in Chennai, India, where we spent two enriching years. Seeking new experiences, we then made our way to the United Arab Emirates.
Just as we were settling into our UAE life, the pandemic struck, but it didn't dampen our spirits. Instead, we saw it as an opportunity for another chapter in our journey. We moved to Indonesia, where we currently hold teaching jobs, and it has been a time of learning, growth, and connection.
As a family, we thrive on traveling and embracing the unknown. Adventures are our way of life, and through our experiences, we aim to inspire our children to be confident in meeting new people, trying diverse cuisines, and immersing themselves in different languages and cultures.
Our vlogs capture our exciting escapades, and we hope they'll ignite your passion for travel and exploration too! Join us on this thrilling ride as we discover new places, forge unforgettable memories, and create a legacy of wanderlust for our children and all those who follow our journey. Let our travels inspire you to embark on your adventures and discover the beauty and diversity the world has to offer!

Granite already has a gourmet sophisticated palate. All the family seem to really enjoy trying new and different Indonesian dessert options. I loved this video, as I got to see dessert options I didn't know existed before. 👍 😊l
I wanted to ask how did you decide which Indonesian desserts to get,? Did you decide on the spot or did you discuss it as a family before you went? Also, how did you decide which restaurants to visit? Was it from word of mouth, spontaneous visits or online reviews? I am just very curious on the process. Hopefully I can try these desserts one day too! 😁 👍
@@sunshinegirl8216 when Jon was talking to Martin the Surabi guy, Jon mentioned that he looked up online for the most popular foods in a particular region.

You guys are very lovable. You guys knows how to respect every little things, for example how to respect with good reaction for tryin some Indonesian food either you guys like or not. You guys still showed us a good reaction with smile or “good”. Thankyou for being respect to us. God bless you.
Actually, surabi with kinca has the most authentic taste. Back in the day, there was neither chocolate nor condensed milk, so kinca was the topping for almost every sweet food in Sundanese. Oh, one more thing, Kelly needs to try Karedok or Lotek. She must be so happy. It's a food from heaven for a vegetarian 😂👍
The best parts about BPF videos are listening to Granite doing food reports fluently and Jon butchering Indonesian words lol
Alhamdulillah.., Mantab ❣️👍🏻🙏
Forest seperti Mark klok kecil dgn Jersey Persib
Forest more like nick kuipers jr from persib bandung wkwk
pake jersey bandung aja di bilang mirip klok 😂 katro
@@Maspeng_06 lo kenapa?
You should try Roti Bakar KRIMBAT..they got a lot of best flavour
@@dimasagung7326elu yang ngapa bego? terlalu overproud goblok
Next, you should try Roti Bakar KRIMBAT, Ampas Kecap, Colenak, Awuk Cibeunying, Combro, Misro, Lo Mie (at Jalan Lombok), Bajigur, Bandrek, Gehu, Timus, Basreng, Cireng, Lotek.
I love to see Forest enjoying his food, not just eating Kerupuk now 😂
Thank you for visiting "Kue Balok" It's nice to meet you who are friendly and warm.
Probably this is one of those days little Forest is not fussy about eating. Granite is brave in trying new stuff and Cedar also enjoying. Nice to watch.
Kelly, as a vegetarian you have to try KAREDOK..that is Sundanese salad. so yummy....

Surabi commonly made from rice flour, grated coconut and salt. Kinca is liquid or melted coconut/palm sugar.. Surabi mostly made plain without topping or topped with oncom or even egg. Now it's many variation on topping.. Sundaneese pancake, yummm...
Lucu banget sih forest..aku suka banget sama forest❤❤❤

Food to try in Bandung: lumpia bandung, pecel ayam, bihun kuah, batagor
one thing that people rarely told, but can be so helpful when coming to other neighboring countries, too
the majority of South East Asian languages are typically phonetic, spelled exactly like how they're written
and luckily, Indonesian language is one of them
this makes learning how to pronounce them become easier (if not much more), and at the same time, drastically reduce any chance of mispronounce
for the vowels, they usually go like this:
- a, like the a of delta, or when dentist asks us to open mouth and say "aaaah"
- i, like both i of India
- u, like both u of Zulu
- o, like the o of bravo, tango
- for e, there are 2 variations, which both are present in the word "enter".
i believe you guys already familiar with these 2, "sate" and "terima kasih"
sate uses the first "e" of enter, while "terima kasih" uses the second "e" of enter.
it'll take a while to learn which words use which e :)
you should try high speed train back to jakarta
Is not made with tapioka. Surabi similar to a pancake, made of a rice flour-based batter with coconut milk or coconut cream and shredded coconut as an emulsifier. Most traditional it tastes sweet, as these pancake-like desserts are usually eaten with kinca (brown sugar)
Kalian sekeluarga harus dan wajib tinggal sangat lama di bandung ...karena kami sebagain warga indonesia sangat senang melihat keberadaan kalian di negara kami yaitu indonesia dan terutama berada di kota bandung ....terima kasih ..
Granite and Cedar are so descriptive about the food, that makes me salivate 😋
Just love your videos the more I watch them!!!

Welcome to my city Bandung 🤩🤩
Bandung is street foods heaven!
b aja
Sweet surabi is good but I prefer the savory surabi😆 especially egg. surabi telur + beef + cheese + sambal🤤🤤
When I was kid my grandma also selling surabi (only savory one) for breakfast and always sold out in just 2-3 hours😂 her tempe orek topping with sambal ijo was the best seller😂
@@snowyday19th new info, thankyou kak!

Ay...I know Kue Balok mang Didin.
It's one of my favorite street food.
I always try to get it twice a month because it's that good.
Thumbs up for you all … especially for tasting durian flavor. I always admire the maturity of your children in adapting various food and culture, particularly GRANITE. 👍🏻👏🏻
please come to natural places, like Tangkuban Parahu, Kawah Putih, Lembang, etc
granite’s food reviews are wonderful i can see him being like the next Mark Weins of travel and food vlogger
this might be my fav video from u guys!!! love itttttt
there's 3 OG flavour of Surabi: Kinca (palm sugar) that you've just tasted, eggs, and oncom (It's made from soy beans, like tempeh but a little bit spicy). Else, is modern version of surabi. It's surprised me that you order durian at first place, and shock me when you guys actually love it! normally it's cryptonite for western people. bravo!
I've really grown to love durian!
Kue balok also my favorite, it's sweet and sugary but no problem cause you need more chalorie when you live in indonesia 😂
In the future, Indonesian cuisine will be very global, rich in spices, the Indonesian nation will also become a very fun country to visit because of its culture and comfort
halo aku dari indonesia!
Berryberry love every video❤
Welcome to my town sir. Have nice your trip
If u come to bandung again go to superhero park its friendly for a kids playing the park is free, lengkong culinary street, cibeunying park there have night culinary, and if u want city tour on bus go to front of museum geology in the morning 08:00 the bus is there

Bandung is heaven for comfort foods and snacks.
Padang is heaven for main dishes.

Thanks, Ms. Beth!
Don't worry, kelly, it's actually very normal to dislike or even hate durian. Not only foreigners, many indonesians don't like it either 😂 And even for those who like durian, it's unwise to eat so much in one sitting, cause it can rise your blood pressure and blood sugar level pretty high
Bandung west Java Indonesia nice 🇮🇩
It is very enjoyable watching your family exploring places. You are very respectful, and I appreciate your determination to learn the local language.
awesome🤩
Waw my town.. welcomeee 😊
Maybe next time when you try ronde. Please drink the soup too. Because that's the main point.
12:35 the sugary surabi called kinca its a sauce made from coconut milk and palm sugar.
can't wait for your vlogs in America next! 🙏😄
