Today, we are following your recommendation for vegetarian Indonesian food options in Medan and trying lontong sayur at the highly recommended Lontong Kak Lin in Meda. Lontong sayur is an Indonesian breakfast dish with coconut, tempeh, and vegetables served on top of delicious rice cakes and covered in a spicy peanut sauce. We are the Bags Packed Family: Jonathan and Kelly with our three children. We sold our home in Alaska, USA, eight years ago, and headed overseas. We are teachers and found fantastic teaching positions in India. Two years later, we moved to the United Arab Emirates. Three years after that, during the beginning of the pandemic, we made the move to our current teaching jobs in Indonesia. We love traveling and finding adventures as a family. We hope that our travels will inspire and provide our children with the confidence to meet new people, try new foods, and enjoy learning a new language. Its called Lupis made from gluten rice ,coconut dan brown sugar syrup.I like it so much.its sweet.
It's good to be uploading back Bags Packed Family! I have a recommendation to go to Parapat! It's kinda near to Medan, but you can see Danau Toba!, Indonesia's LARGEST LAKE after the Toba Volcano Erruption 76.000 Years AGO!

10:57 that's not lontong, it's called lupis. The waiter already told you before at 6:30 It's sweet cake made of glutinous rice. Lontong and lupis are totally different.

Some food for your journey in Medan. Batak Food. Susu kerbau (Buffalo Milk) like cheese, BPK ( Babi Panggang Karo), Ayam Pinadar (Chicken cooked with blood), Ikan Mas Arsik (Tasty fish from danau toba), Saksang (Pig cooked with blood, spice, and some Sichuan pepper), etc, etc. You should try have a nice 1 night sleep around danau toba/ samosir island

Love the adventurous spirit of your family! Welcome to Medan. There’s tons of great food in Medan. Tripsadvisor would be a great guide for you. The street food area that your family was at (Wonton noodle place) is called selat panjang (translation: long strait). It’s a well known street food place in Medan. Also medan has a lot of vegetarian food options as there a lot of Buddhists who are vegetarians and their vegetarian foods are bomb and some taste exactly like meat. You should try some! Love your family and glad to be able to support your channel. Travel safe and keep on bringing great contents!

Beside Danau Toba, you can also go to Bukit Lawang to see the Orang Utan and very clean river. It's only around 2 hours from Medan. Or you can also take your family to Brastagi (2.5 hours from Medan). At Brastagi, you can find so many fresh fruits and you can enjoy hot mountain water at Debuk-debuk. But if you are still in Medan and want to take a short trip to Asam Kumbang Crocodile Farm, it's still in Medan and took only minutes

Fyi : Try Vegetable rice cake / the diamond from Padang (west Sumatra) with young Jackfruit, Fern leaves, Egg, Coconut milk.... (Rendang and Tunjang are optional)
Those perkedel (mashed potatoes) are made of potatoes and eggs in it. Just for information.

Originally lontong sayur does not come with rendang but today lots of people try to add more variety to lontong sayur which is awesome.
Rendang itself is served with rice. It's originally from West Sumatra (Padang), you can find rendang at all Padang Restaurants.
I went to Medan a year ago. You should go to Toba lake and Samosir Island. Thanks for sharing your journey, .

Lontong sayur medan dari dulu memang banyak campurannya. Seperti sayur untuk kuahnya, mie, sambal dan sayur tauco. Kalo bumbu pecal itu optional.
Nah, kalo di tambah rendang, saya belum pernah memakannya di Sumut ini.

Lontong medan is most popular there, maybe next time you try durian there, because durian most popular too, or mie soup. And i hope you can visit Berastagi or Kabanjahe you can see Mount Sibayak and Mount Sinabung, and the eruption area in Sinabung too. Or dont forget to visit Binjai too is 1 hour from Medan and try the food and the natural views there 😊

Lontong made of regular rice while lupis made of sticky rice. From the ingredients you mentioned in your dish, while it's good, it's not famous lontong from medan. The one that originally from medan has some veggies in it, also there is something called tauco, and anchovies. Also it's not potato chips. Usually it's cassava.
