I've never seen a rat wag their tail like that. They're so adorable.
me either!
Same here. Adorable ❤
Me neither. I miss mine😢
Bob and Gary , gay little rats 😈
Me neither and I have had a few
My rat lived nearly 4 years.
So glad to know that. I was sad to hear they typically live just 2 years...
You must have taken superb care of your baby.
Oh wow congrats! I went the opposite way and care for parrots that live 35-50+ years.
Mine was about 4-5 years old too before he passed. I still miss him daily.
Yeah, 2-3 years is the average. They can live longer; it’s just rare and can depend heavily on genetics. Especially with feeder rats, who sadly are not bred for longevity. 😢 they’re such great pets, they are so sweet and smart and will bond with you so intensely-the short lifespan is just unfair.
She's amazing. She ditched her personal biases, broadened her horizon, and gave much needed love to a misunderstood fellow mammal.❤❤❤
I miss my rats. His name was Templeton. He was 2 pounds. And he lived for five years ❤❤❤
@critterkeeper6446 I'm sure he felt loved. You should be proud of the life you gave him.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Rats are lowkey some of the best pets. They are so affectionate and smart as hell. Despite what people think they are very clean animals they groom themselves all the time. only downside is they dont live long enough
can i ask, is the short lifespan really hard? its what wold stop me from taking care of a lil buddy. seems so heart wrenching
^^i am here to ask the same. I want a little buddy so bad but I’m afraid of the devastation bc I have depression.
“lowkey” 😂
@@anyruginthehouseI can definitely agree its heart wrenching but its so worth it, for their short life you are their everything and the memories you create with them will always last.
Would you say they are cleaner and smarter & more affectionate than hamsters?
When my youngest son was in kindergarten, the teacher had 2 white rats, Pinky & Baxter. The kids loved “the boys”. One of them passed away. It taught the kids a life lesson about grief & loss & caring at age 5-6, & how to express their emotions. I will be grateful for Mrs. Hischmiller for sharing that with her students!

I mean on average they don’t live that long but outliers do happen. Most humans live to 70’s but we got a few in the 110’s!
@@TheAstroflightAwe,poor rats.If so,mom should've taken the opportunity 2 teach her,about being gentle n so on.IMO🫣
There are rats that get very old, its not usual but happens. There are people who get well over 100 years old, doesn't mean everybody gets that old. The question is why are you into senseless arguments about someone else's rat you don't know... And then spreading those speculations of yours like they are fact...@@TheAstroflight
The average lifespan of a cat is around 12 years but there are cats who get 25 years old. I think you have a hard time understanding the concept of average and assume it means the max lifespan or max of anything in general. Better look up what average is and you can avoid embarrassing yourself next time...@@TheAstroflight
Rats just don't care about their mortality, they just live in the moment and for our love. Those wee toes though 😍

I'm deathly afraid of rats and thought this video would be horrible for me but instead i found myself tearing up a bit. Thank you for being such a wonderful pet parent and giving us a glimpse at these wonderful animals.
They get a bad rap 😕.Have a place in the country! I feed 🦌🦌🦌🦝🦝🦝🦝🐇🐀🐿🐸opossums! They are so spoiled! Have friends that come over n can't believe how brave they are!!! They also think I'm 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪😂😂😂😂
I suppose cause the rats we usually see are on the streets or in the wild and our first impulse is the fear to be bitten. They could carry dreadful diseases. These ones probably are vaccinated....and clean.
Me too I did cringe at them but managed to watch the whole video.😊
You were open enough to watch the video ☺️

I had 2 rats I bought out of pocket money over 40 years ago now and I hid them in my room for 3 months loose. My mum heard noise in my room but they would hide when anyone but me came in. I left food and water and an open box on its side to let them wee and poo with some hey, I made 2 sleeping bags for them, I made toys everyday. One day I was in school and when I came home mum said anything to tell me, I said no. She said what about the cute fur babies in your room. Well I said you got me. Then on she brought a large cage but it stayed open in my bedroom and everyone loved them. Sadly they don’t live that long, but they had a wonderful life. Even playing in the garden in the summer. I loved my girls. Rest in peace my beautiful ladies. xx❤❤
What a mom! This the best thing I've read in YT comments all day. 💗
Best comment. You win the internet for the day.
That's beautiful & you've got yourself a great mom. ❤ You really touched my heart ❤
Awww!😢♥️
I'd better get off the internet today before anything else spoils it. What a lovely story, thank you for sharing.
I had a rat named Lucky and he lived just over five years. 🤗😘
He was the luckiest, loved baby!
nice❤
I know the lady who has the YT channel, ‘Shadow the Rat’, she’s had some live over 3 years. I’m so glad I saw her channel. It showed me how absolutely amazing and clever Rats are. Hers are able to do all sorts of tricks, complete obstacle courses, do art work, all sorts of fun things. 5 years is an amazing long life for a Rat. ❤ from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
You are lucky for that. ❤
Absolutely rubbish; 3 years. MAX
I remember that as a child I was never afraid of rats, mice or bats, I don't know why many people are afraid of them, they are animals, not bloodsucking monsters
Im not even afraid of lizards, snakes, or most spiders. An8mals are awesome.
A lot of it has to do with learned behavior. I, personally, loved creepy crawlies (bugs) growing up to the point that my uncle bought me a habitat thing for them. However, by the age of 7, I was irrationally afraid of them due to my mom *always* shrieking and calling for me when there was a bug around. Even though I never had any bad experiences with them, my mom's constant fear reactions when facing insects or arachnids of any kind resulted in me getting afraid of them. :/
Various diseases, the bubonic plague especially in this case, have leveraged human evolution to give us fears like this. Evolution doesn't "know why" being afraid of rats was a helpful trait to have just that humans between 1300 and 1700 had a much higher survival rate if they were lol
Agree! Smart as well
People are afraid of what they don’t know. Rats, mice and bats can carry different diseases, especially rabies, but the ones that you buy from a pet store wouldn’t have any diseases or come into contact with any. Of course you cannot buy bats.
My children had pet rats. They’re sweet, relational and ideal for children who learn to care for them and interacted with them, and yes, love them 💕💕💕
It’s heartbreaking when they only live 2 years. I had hamsters and they also only live about 2 years.
I hear you. I'm a basket case when I lost a dog or cat. I couldn't imagine getting only 2 years. :(

We had 2 ratty sisters when my son was young. They were wonderful pets - super clever and sweet. When they would explore somewhere new, they'd link their tails like they were holding hands.
Omgoodness that's amazing ❤
"Ratty" 😂 idk why that made me laugh but it did
I wish it were more socially acceptable to adopt rats as pets. They're wonderful creatures! ❤!
They're very intelligent creatures.
It is socially acceptable. I'm not sure what you are talking about. Plus why would you care what other people think? Many people eat rabbits while having them as pets at the same time. That's weird.
It’s your home and your life. Stop caring about the opinions of people you wouldn’t ask for advice.
@@helenhines2712 Yes, they're the most intelligent rodent you can care for..
@kyra_from_kerkyra It's all good if you're a teen or college age, if you have kids or if your community has less traditional parameters, go for it. Don't be single and dating without any other animals, though. Tell a prospective partner that you have rats as pets and watch their reaction. It's hit or miss, and mostly, it's a miss because most believe they're dirty pests that infest a home and do a lot of damage.
This really puts rats in a different light. So very sweet! God's creatures are amazing.
My mom & now myself have rescued many animals, my mom’s favourite was her 2 rats 🐀 ❤️
All animals big and small should feel love. They have nothing but love to give.
Um. I will forego the love of a wasp or a scorpion, thanks all the same 😅
@@dizwell wasp is not an animal ... but a scorpion falls in the same family as spiders .. they do have intelligence... and they can have loyalty to you. A friend of mine in Texas had the big scorpions you see in movies and he picked them up and they crawled all over him . He also had a pet tarantula.
@FrankStein1 "Wasp is not an animal..."??? Well, it's certainly not a vegetable or a rock... so what would you propose we call it?
Of course it's an animal! You're clearly using some definition of "animal" with which I'm unfamiliar (and so is everyone else!)
And I wasn't suggesting scorpions aren't intelligent. The point was not fancying getting too close to their "love".
Scorpions are also closely related to ticks and mites. I'll pass on their love too, thanks all the same.

All creatures are special in their way. Thank you to this lovely woman for her open-mindedness.
she sets her fears aside and decided to have them as pets.
That’s the hardest part about falling in love with a little rat. It’s their short life span.😢
I always remeber, that as a human, we are with our pets forever, and that all the joy they bring, is greater than the sorrow
Rats are extremely smart & loving! ❤❤❤
Blue and chocolate dumbo berkshires! Absolutely adorable. Loved that these rats are living la vida loca -- rattie version -- with free ranging and litterboxes and tons of cuddles.
Runamuch Rats!! Channel name😊❤
I love the very gentle voice their owner uses to speak with Gary and Bob and her gentleness handling them.
Congratulations - You made me a rat fan. I always knew they were intelligent, but seeing them up close in a pet environment is a totally different thing. The downside is the 2 year life span. Same with possums. It's better to have loved and lost than never love at all, blah blah, but it sucks. I can't imagine the pain/grief after connecting with these little guys at such an emotional level.
It does suck but the key is to always have a few. What I do is get a group (4-6) of the same or around the same age and when they get down to 2 left I'll get a few more (the next group), repeat, repeat. Having others to focus on, to love and cuddle makes it more bearable. The joy they bring me outweighs the loss and I try to look at it as I'm happy I got to give them a good life.
Our beautiful boy lived for three years and four months, he looked like a weathered old man at the end. He really waa the sweetest boy.
We've had rats and their short lives are really rhe only negative aspect about them. They are smart, affectionate and fun. The most memorable rat for us was Squiddle. We had a two day funeral and my granddaughters sang songs, read their own poems. He was launched into the next world with style and live. With Bob and Gary they seem to get on reasonably well. Two males can get vicious but these two seem to overcome that.
I had a pet rat named gizmo when I was a kid

Awww they really are the most darling creatures!! My younger siblings had them and they really are the sweetest!! Qué bonito es Amar a todas las criaturas 👍❤️
Rats are extremely intelligent, endearing and loyal. Once they bond with you - you are their designated human. It is unfortunate the animals who 1-give their lives daily for medical research, are 2-seen as a scourge in big cities, and 3-spread the plague in medieval times, and 4-are beloved pets? They all descend from the same stock..
Their lives are not given to be tortured in medical and other research. They're taken.
I've heard it wasn't really the rats directly carrying plague, but the fleas on them. Not certain.
Fleas are what spread the plague, fleas were on the rats, but the bites from fleas were the true vectors. Back then all animals, including humans, had fleas.
Rats don't spread the "Plague" its the Fleas on the Rats that carried the "Plague to Humans"....According to my Biology professor.
Nothing you've said dear lady is either silly or cheesy.....a pet's love can be just as strong and sincere, and sometimes even more, than a human's. Enjoy the time you have with those little furry cuties, and when you're ready, open your heart to more. ❤
When my 15 yr old brought home a MOUSE in a box, he soon became MY buddy. (teens are notoriously neglectful) I loved that little girl & she was SO smart! I bawled like a baby when she developed a tumor and had to be euthanized. 💔😥

Soooo adorable❤ that little hands, their face & intelligence. Whole package!
To overcome my fear of rats, one Easter I had a fine idea. Easter rats! Thusly Bullseye and Wilma, like two little jelly beans, packaged snug and warm, went home to join the us at the Acre. Bull'seye was a true escape artist, it was a gift; from glass aquariums, to wire cages, latches, locks, and many hours of contemplation.....yet
Time after time he won the game! I had mad respect for his ingenuity not to mention his outright pluck! As he made his secret forays, exploring his way through the upstairs rooms to see what he could find. I have to give my dearest ex husband props here, when bullseye slunk into the bed at night to have a bit of a snuggle; he always laughed and took it on the chin. This little dickens would even come to me when I called him, loved scratches behind the ears, and liked to play! He truly was like owning a weeny dog in so many ways.
I know one thing my children and I will never forget Bullseye.

You obviously live in a city, wild rats and mice or legion, without pest control in the country you would starve along with many other species of animals, and eventually they would run out of food and start to cannibalize, not to mention the spread of disease from an out of control mice and rat population, maybe eat some meat once in a while so that brain of yours can function properly.

I thought they lived longer in captivity. 2 years sounds like a lifespan for a rat in the wild.
@@danielschannel701 nope, can reach 3 years but often cancer comes around 2 yrs maximum
Me as well 😔
Rats also age rapidly hence the short lifespan its 30 rat years per 1 human year so a 3yr old rat would be 90 in rat years 🐀🐀
@@danielschannel701actually it's the opposite. Wild rats in captivity can live several years but domestic rats have much shorter life spans, probably due to mass breeding. I think breeding w the focus on extending life span could be done to add some time and diet and supplements could be used as well. I'm actually in the process of experimenting w the diet and supplement aspect. I truly believe w a proper diet and using specific natural substances we could at minimum keep them healthy thru old age.
Honestly they look super cute and have adorable personality, I wish we weren't taught to hate them from an early age.
"Feeder rats" OMG, live feedings should be against the law.
Some animals won't eat unless the animal they are eating is not alive. That is just part of nature. Snakes are one of those, some geckos also. My friend has a gecko and she needs to feed him live crickets
@@DanielMaixner I read the last part of your comment as, "...she needs to feed him live chickens", and i immediately thought WHAT MONSTROUS GECKOS IS YOUR FRIEND BREEDING?! lol brain fart.
@@DanielMaixner Yes they will. They will eat if you move the food around for them. It is the motion that triggers them.
Agree! It's disgusting
Yet, billions are slaughtered each year! All creatures, have the right to life! Even, the ones we eat! 😒
The problem with rats (wild undomesticated ones) is that they carry many deceases, it is just like with any other wild animal, the problem with rats is that they adapted to roam around cities and areas with great population, and are more prone to easily pass on whatever decease they might be carrying compared to other animals that usually live in forests and places with little to no people living in there. You are right it shouldn't be that way, but it's difficult to find other ways specially when rats can reproduce so fast.
