My JVC XV-NA70BK DVD player from 2004 can do that with ease. Zoom controls allow more intimate control over content and really adds to the fun. The least Panasonic should do for a player at this price is to add this feature via a firmware, but they probably wouldn't do so even if they could.

Thank you for the informative video. Care should be taken when turning On the Optimizer feature in these players. It works like a limiter in audio, placed at the end of the chain before the speaker outputs. In HDR, the TV already has a chip to adjust the HDR maximum peak luminance metadata values of the content to the TV capability through dynamic tone mapping. In the case of Dolby Vision and HDR10 Plus, the TV also reads the average luminance levels frame by frame. When using the Optimizer in the player, it's better to turn off the TV dynamic tone mapping. Otherwise, the dynamic tone mapping of the content is reduced twice: by the TV dynamic tone mapping and by the player.

I actually can’t remember what brand name was put in for my rears but they were put in afterwards. I feel like an idiot but I don’t remember what brand my sub was either. Why would anyone need 500gb for 4K? If you're calling 4K Blu-ray "fake" cuz it's not the same as DCI 4K, just stop it; it's closer to DCI 4K than anything else on the consumer market. Even regular Blu-ray is NOT uncompressed digital video, and HEVC can be set to compress 4K video just enough to fit on a 4K disc (100gb max) -- far less compressed than 4K streaming even using the same HEVC codec.
Overpriced? Then get the 820; it doesn't have the 9000's top-notch DACs or balanced audio outputs, but at least it HAS analog audio (unlike most other 4K players) plus almost the same digital A/V features as the 9000. I don't agree. If you buy either one of these and have a crappy TV you are wasting it money.
@@shadowaccountin the meantime since its been 2 years already i have an oled tv.
i have a question....so i plug from the video / Audio hdmi to which on the TV ? the 2.1 hdmi or the 2.0 hdmi......i will be connecting my sonos Arc to the eArc on the tv........and my cable box into regular hdmi on the TV.....does that all sound right ??? thx...cheers
Yes, you're spot on. The Panasonics have HDMI 2.0 and can be connected to one of the other HDMI inputs on your TV.
Sonos arc not support DTS HD master. so you probably have to output the signal as multi-channel in pcm in such cases How It works with DTSX I do not know. It is the DTS equivalent of Dolby Atmos
@@Andersljungberg The best the Arc will do with DTS:X is to have the player decode to multichannel PCM over HDMI, which will effectively downgrade the soundtrack to DTS-HD MA on nearly all players. (The Xbox One S/X & Series X might be able to convert DTS:X to MAT/PCM Atmos, but that hasn't been tested AFAIK & they definitely won't support DV or HDR10+ on discs, though DV might be added to the XSX in a future update as it supports DV in gaming.)
Just purchased mine in 2021 and it really pushed my lg oled CX
Nice! Which one did you get?
Which of the 4 display settings would you recommend for the UB820 if connecting to a plasma tv?
Hi, Daniel - those settings are specifically for tone-mapping 4K HDR content. Plasma TVs stopped at 1080p, thus those settings are not relevant for Plasma.
hello, what 4k player can you recommend for the Panasonic EZ1000 TV ?, ??
Do you plan to watch just DVDs or will you be playing CDs on this new player as well? Also would you like any features built in, like wi-fi for movie streaming or Bluetooth for streaming audio?
@@crutchfield
hello, for music i have a modded oppo 103d + tube amplifier, dvd i only need to play movies :), i don't need wifi and internet. :)
best regards
All of the Panasonic players will have WiFi capabilities. This model give you high quality video playback without some of the audiophile upgrades of the next model up : www.crutchfield.com/I-rYTBc174/p_133UB820K/Panasonic-DP-UB820.html?tp=171
@@crutchfield Ok .. I was thinking about this model or the UB-824
Panasonic is definitely a good choice!
Why can I find the right person to do the right settings for Dolby/ hdr settings 😒 everybody goes thru the settings so fast I need to make sure I have the proper settings g on my panasonic ub-820 please
We didn't intend for this to be a setup video of each; but more of a comparison of them and discussion of their abilities. @@crutchfield I bought it brand new from Amazon, I am a regular customer for crut hfield but not for this ,just because I didn't buy it does not mean you can't help !! Would it be so wrong to just help with simple settings 10 min at least
What setting would you use for a plasma?
You will definitely want to use the HDMI 1.4a output with Plasma TV's . As for the other settings, we recommend using the ones that create the best experience for you and your preferences
@@crutchfield What tv selection should i use? within the menu
There is no one setting that is best for everyone's preferences. We recommend exploring those selections to see which you like the best
I feel that at $500/$1000 are way overpriced. I just went with the Panasonic dp-ub420 for $150 on sale. All I need is a 4K player with the tone mapping and all these have it so why not go with the cheaper one
Because the 420 doesn’t have Dolby vision that’s why if you don’t have a tv with Dolby vision then by all means yes you don’t need the 820 or 9000
And reportedly the 420's video processor isn't as good as the 820 & 9000 even though Panasonic calls them all "HCX" processors ("Hollywood Cinema eXperience", supposedly developed in their Hollywood lab).
@@richellebrittain2127 Who reported that? I was gonna buy a 420, but if the video processing isn't that good, I'll pass.
Is the HDR optimizer automatic or not?
It’s not automatic. You have to turn it on, but I highly suggest you do. You can turn it on once and then forget it.
It will automatically detect the HDR version of the content, yes.
@@crutchfield It automatically detects HDR10 vs HDR10+ vs Dolby Vision, but the HDR optimizer is not automatically enabled for HDR10 content. That was his question. You have to enable it with the "HDR Options" button on the remote.
If you don’t have a serious home theatre then just buy the ub820.... super good quality minus the premium aesthetics. Still looks nice in your console though. Better movie sound then my Samsung m9500 had
Would Samsung q80 be high brightness?
The Samsung Q80 does produce peak brightness, so it will look still look great in room that may have a lot of lights or lighting.

By using a usb, can that player running .iso?
Both the disc player and USB port support the following video formats:
AVCHD (up to 1920x1080), MKV (up to 3840x2160/30p or 4096x2160/24p), MPEG-2 (up to 3840x2160/30p or 4096x2160/24p), MP4 (up to 3840x2160/30p or 4096x2160/24p)

Has Panasonic released a replacement model for the 820?
We are not aware of a replacement on it and still have the DP-UB820 as a current production item on our site here: www.crutchfield.com/I-rYTVc227/p_133UB820K/item.html
I had the top of the line Oppo (can’t remember the model number at the moment) and had a really nice setup. I lived in Minnesota in a detached townhome and had Snells for my fronts and center. I actually can’t remember what brand name was put in for my rears but they were put in afterwards. I feel like an idiot but I don’t remember what brand my sub was either. Then I had top of the line Anthem amp and Anthem receiver. I recently moved to Florida and into a turnkey condo in a high rise building. I just can’t have a setup like that in my new place. It came with a 65 inch Samsung tv and a Sonos Soundbar. Big downgrade from what I had before, but the soundbar really sounds pretty good actually. I was going to get the 9000 but it doesn’t fit, so I bought the 820. I think it’s great.
Can't remember which brands of that gear you had? No worries, I can't recall the names of any of my ex-wives, thankfully.
@@montag4516 Ha ha. That’s probably a good thing. I bet you remember the names of the dogs you’ve had over the years though.
Hi i have a question, this player has the hdcp 2.2?
Yes it has full support for 4K content.
Crutchfield and dolby atmos and dts x compatible?
It doesn't have them built-in but it is compatible. If you have an AV receiver which decodes Dolby Atmos or DTS:X, you will need to set this UHD Blu-ray player's HDMI output to bitstream.
do the dp-ub 9000 contain dolbyvision and hdr 10+
Yes it supports both Dolby Vison and HDR 10+ as well as HLG
So does the DP-UB820.
im ordering the 820
Excellent choice! Let us know how you like it.

Where would I change to setting to OLED on this player? I have the Sony A8G OLED tv.
I found this process in the owner's manual on pages 19-20. To change the display type, you go into Settings, Player Settings, Advanced Settings, and then look for HDR TV Type
@@crutchfield Thank you very much!
my old cambrigde from 2010 play it all ok not atmos or fake 4k video!! but stil sacd sound and dts master hd thats fine 547dollars 10years ago stil going strong... no way we will see 500gb 4k on an blu-ray disk never gonna happen
Why do Americans insist on saying Oh-po....when it’s Oppo! Do you say Oh-pposite? Or Oh-ptimum? 😖
So bad player, don’t work with 4K files via USB ports! Blu Ray discs upscale very bad! Great disappointment! 👎
Way overpriced! Plus I’m happy with my OPPO!
@Rodimus Prime is it...?
Me too
LOL Talk about overpriced.
Overpriced? Then get the 820; it doesn't have the 9000's top-notch DACs or balanced audio outputs, but at least it HAS analog audio (unlike most other 4K players) plus almost the same digital A/V features as the 9000. (And an Oppo owner calling the 9000 "overpriced" is definitely a pot-meet-kettle moment.)
@@richellebrittain2127 Yeah $500 more is overpriced!
