  • Winter 2023. This was 240km loop around the Central West of NSW over four days. Staying in pubs and bed and breakfast places I travelled Gulgong to Dunedoo. Dunedoo to Mendooran. Mendooran to Ballimore. And then Ballimore back to Gulgong.
If you’re after a GPX file or want to see a few of the extra images, etc., you can access it all here: mike-coles.com/central-west-c...
I cycled the loop on my dual suspension Giant Trance II mountain bikes, to which I had attached Thule Pack n' Pedal rack and bags.

Thanks for sharing the video. This ride has been on my list since it was created . There always seems to be something that stops us getting out there. Hopefully this spring.

Hey Colesey, the 90’s just rang: They want their handlebars back! 😉🤣 Seriously though, bloody good effort and always enjoy living vicariously through your videos!

That GoPro footage is outstanding - good choice!

I’m still adjusting things, but the GoPro stuff is a combination of GoPro 8 set to wide angle and GoPro 11 set to linear with a lapel mic. I did record a little segment on camera setup, but cut it from the final edit.

Interested in your direct route from Ballimore to Gulgong, thus missing out on Wellington etc handy if you only have four days and not five or six.

It was pretty good, but a word of warning; it’s a long way on a dual suspension bike with bags attached. Or it was for me..

@@mike-coles hard to escape a long day even from Wellington to Gulgong

Another great video Mike. We did it a couple of years back and I must say that Slapdash Creek section between Gulgong and Dunedoo was a highlight. The tyre bridge has got bigger! We did a couple of extra days and included Dubbo and Wellington.
    Where to next?

Got to admit, that first day was a definite blast. And also a big surprise. I was expecting open farmland and it was so much more!
Got a few ideas for the next adventure. There’s some stuff around Buladelah I’d like to ride but I also like the look of Kanagra Boyd NP. So many good choices out there!

@@mike-coles How about the old Grafton to Glen Innes Road, bit of a climb heading West though. Pretty much farm and bushland and National Park. Another good ride up North, Haven't done it on a bicycle but have done it many times in a car and Motorcycle, from the North side of Grafton, head out on the Great Marlow Road which will eventually put you back onto Lawrence road but skirts the Clarence River, lots of cane fields to ride through. Ride out to Lawrence where they used to put logs from the Forest onto boats in the 1800's and ship to overseas. Also Lawrence is a great fishing area. You can ride to the Bluff Point Ferry and head towards Maclean and further onto Yamba. Alternatively, you can ride out via Calliope road from Ulmarra on the old Pacific Highway, head out to Tacabia and out towards Brooms head via Yuraygir National Park. You'll see some huge Kangaroos in there. It was great with a Trailbike, would be just as much fun on a MTB.

It’s definitely one I want to do, but not in winter. My sons will ride with me and/or run a support vehicle because we’d have to camp and bring in food and water for that road. But yes, it’s one on my list.

Did you also shoot with the little APS Sony? A couple of segments had nice blurry backgrounds.

Yes I did. I like the bokeh, but I struggled with the colour balance and audio on this trip. I will have a deep dive with the camera soon and get things sorted.
