She is stunning. Also, whoever recorded this really knew what they were doing, you couldn't ask for a better sound. Even all the new technology we have now, recordings don't get any better than this.

just found this now.. how i fell in love with Astrud, when I was 17 , like 1981, when first heard Girl from Ipanema , and of course Stan on sax that time. This is so great. Here we hear even more of her perfect sweet pitch...
I saw Astrud live at S.O.B.'s in downtown Manhattan many years ago. It was a thrill seeing her, though it wasn't her best night: the club was so packed that the noise from the tables bothered her. This long clip shows a quality she always had: that she'd just been pressed into singing out of the blue, that she'd come up to the microphone from the audience without ever having sung in public before, and that she was a bit nervous with all the attention on her. But over and over she won hearts.
All of her innocence to cameras, audiences and TV's inherent "chilling" effect comes out in her eyes, and their almost lost appearance. Dom Um Romao's major introduction came with his performance with Sinatra & Jobim. He was one of the smoothest Brazilian drummers I am aware of. This is so wonderful, thank you. All well practiced and performed by the diva de bossa nova!
sandra helen Well, now you have hit a soft spot with me. I love Ellis, who was taken from the world way too early. I guess I just put singers like Ellis, Kenia, and Nana Caymmi into another "realm" of true classic Brazilian female vocalists. Astrud, to her credit, got serious with her recording with Stanley Turrentine.
Never knew she was in my country, I was 16 then. Saw that pianist Pim Jacobs' trio for free, and many other well known Dutch jazz artists (Louis van Dijk I remember). Sunday afternoons in a house bordering on the Vondelpark, Amsterdam. The very social government and progressives of my city had decided it would be a good way to keep us kids off the streets and out of making trouble. So every Sunday they paid for the best Dutch jazz artist to play in a big room of that house, where maybe 50 of us kids enjoyed great music. If Astrud sang there I didn't know it, but it wouldn't have surprised me.... I did not go to all of them. But those sure were the days... Later I loved her album with Stan Getz. (Who I later '74 I saw in a tiny jazz club in San Francisco, another big room, $7,50 entrance. Top US jazz artists, heard many there, Sonny Rollins, Max Roach, Art Blakey... don't remember the others.)
Wow, what an interesting story, thanks for sharing! I was born in the late 70's, so I don't remember the times you write about, but 60's and 70' s always fascinated me in terms of music. I always yearned for attending a concert by one of those jazz guitar greats, such as Montgomery or Burrell, but unfortunately that never happened. Greetings from Poland.🎸

Because of that album, Stan Getz was a major influence on me musically in junior high school and high school. "Only Trust Your Heart" by Sammy Cahn and Benny Carter is an incredible tune.
Wow, Astrud with Pim Jacobs!!! Stunning!!!
QUEM ACREDITOU NO AMOR,NO SORRISO E NA FLOR ENTAO SONHOU,SONHOU
As a studio engineer myself, I agree. This recording is outstanding. What year was this made? The music, her voice, and her beauty is what most people focus on, and I get this. But this sound quality is shocking!
Topkwaliteit opname uit 1962. Al werd het programma Dzjes zien uitgezonden van 64 - 66?

After a while I noticed that I was watching this smiling all the time. What a wonderful time capsule.
Drummer's name is actually Dom Um Romão who worked with Astrud Gilberto and Weather Report.
And, Sergio Mendes and Brazil '66. Unfortunately, he has passed away.
