Rest in eternal Peace Astrud Gilberto❤❤❤
Aside from her beautiful voice, Astrud always dressed nice, always looked fantastic. She knew what looked good on her. I will always her as that quintessential beauty from Brazil who enriched the world with her music and her magic
She was sweetness personified. Her voice was her instrument that presented the very heart of bosa nova.
Wow Astrud and Dizzy were in excellent form in 1988. I wish i would have gone to see Dizzy back then.
Wonderful music from the good old days........talented musicians and singers !
Awesome very charming sing on little lady.
Como Astrud era linda e talentosa! RIP
Back in the mid and late "70s I could hear the Skymasters on the dutch radio. I remember some of the soloists names Ack v. Rooyen, Ferdinand Povel and others...world class big band, it SWINGS...big time...WOWWW!!!!
This is another wonderful classic performance that I am so glad that was filmed with such good quality, thanks for posting and RIP to Astrud, who just recently passed she is singing in heaven now.
Who is the drummer in the band?
@@jimdavinci8657 Cees (pronounced "case") Kranenburg, who also was the drummer of the Metropole Orchestra between the late eighties and late nineties.
In her forties, Astrud was even better looking than 20 years earlier. Beautiful still in the thumbnail. Superb quality all around. Hartelijk bedankt!
Yaay another Astrud Gilberto live performance! I just love her
Me too!! Love Astrud!!
Thank you for this beautiful hommage for famous Ack van Rooyen
I'm a jazz guitarist. I met Astrud in 1989 when she was performing in Philadelphia. She was 49 years old, very cute, and actually quite shy.
She will be missed and Remembered.
Astrud Gilberto at her best - fantastic arrangements with the big band.

The success of Gilberto's vocal work on the song "The Girl from Ipanema" quickly turned her into a jazz star, and soon she started recording solo. She started as an interpreter of Brazilian bossa nova and American jazz standards, but started recording her own compositions in the 1970s.
In 1992, Astrud received the "Latin Jazz USA Award for Lifetime Achievement" for her outstanding contribution to Latin jazz music.

Dizzy Gillespie: a founding father of the ‘bebop’ revolution
In addition to creating bebop, Gillespie is considered one of the first musicians to infuse Afro-Cuban, Caribbean and Brazilian rhythms with jazz. His work in the Latin jazz genre includes Manteca, A Night in Tunisia and Guachi Guaro, among others. By Emily Bonnell

unbelievable! 1:23:31
Alcides do Brasil.
Good old Dizzy, as cheeky as ever!
this is great, thanks
Gillespie is one of a few musicians credited with introducing the masses to bebop music, a new style of jazz which was very different from swing music, which was popular in the 1940s. He is known for his flamboyant performance style and on-stage clowning, which would earn him the nickname “Dizzy.”

ASTRUD=GODDESS
Thanks!
Don't you think the tempo is a bit fast for Astrud?
Lovely to see Dizzy smile, when they messed up the beginning of Manteca.. 😅 Would not want to imagine what the reaction would have been, let's say, from Buddy Rich... 😬

The girl on the congas - not bongos - wasn't " cute " , she was fantastic!
Great musician . . . Gillespie appreciated her . . .what is her name?
Joke Hamminga announced
She was fantastic and cute.
Jajja my favorite
She doesnt need to scream, or dance about in her underwear, and I'd be very surprised if she'd led an life of excessive use of drugs and alcohol. Sometimes her voice reminds me of driving and getting through heavy traffic and then gliding on new tarmac through beautiful scenery on a fresh summer day. It could be like skiing too.
I never knew in the mood had lyrics, the girl on the bongos is really cute.
those are not bongos
In the world of jazz, Dizzy Gillespie is an icon. Beyond its borders, he's a legend. His journey through music led him to revolutionize jazz by infusing bebop and Afro-Cuban rhythms.

Enjoy New Generation Bossa Nova too Thanks.
c'mon...give it up for the solid playing of Bart van Lier on 'bone; great improv on Wild Bill then carried the tune on Tunisia with mad power!
Drummer?
Well, he's not flying a kite!
The girl on the congas stole the show!!!
Elis Regina's version of "Waters of March" (Aguas de Marco) is unbeatable and out of reach. Anyway nice concert!
ArtOfCool I like Astrud’s just as much but imagine if she we’re the one to have covered it soon after it came out. I think it would’ve been so nice
Her 1972 version I guess
I agree. Elis's version is the gold standard.
I think the version on Antonio Jobim's Inedito album has a special something about it.
totally RUINED Ms Gilberto's true unique sound.......WAY too Vegas.....
To bad saxophones aren't musical instruments.
How do you arrive at the conclusion that saxophones are not musical instruments?
