    So glad you made this vid because theres not alot of info about quarantining new reptiles, mostly just when they get sick. I didnt know about it until last year, thankfully i only have two reptiles and theyre kept in seperate rooms anyway. Even the breeder i bought my snake from didnt know about it, and hes been in reptile breeding for 8 years. Hopefully more people start spreading this info!

    I recently rescued some rats, and they’re are brothers, and I have to take them to the vet because the woman who had them, was not taking care them properly and depriving them of essentials..but I found out they have lice and have the flu..the situation was just horrible..but I’m so glad I rescued them. They’re the sweetest little boys❤️

      JPs Pet nation it was sooo hard to see them in such a bad condition, I took them into the vet that specializes in rodents, and they didn’t have any lice, but they did have a “minor” respiratory infection, they are on meds now, and they are doing so much better already❤️

    This video comes at a tough time for me. I had quarentined my very first ball python from my other snakes because he had a really bad resp infection. He passed away 2 days ago and I'm so so glad I didn't have him near my other snakes because it would have shattered me to lose them all more than it already did to lose my special boy.

    If you buy butcher's paper in bulk, it works out way cheaper than paper towel, easier again to spot mites etc, and you can fold it to fit perfectly. easier to clean up too. This has been a great video Tyler, ty for sharing ^_^ Do you guys use F10 spray to disinfect/wash between animals in the States too? Those two are my go-tos.

  • @ScubaX29
    @ScubaX29 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just one thing to add, I think plastic tubs not only make great permanent enclosures for snakes, but they make fantastic quarantine enclosures because they're cheap, easy to clean, and it's easier to sot things in them. Great and informative video as always Tyler!

    • @danielefonseca6446
      @danielefonseca6446 6 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Yes! Although you don't have any other reptiles that can possibly be infected, quarantine helps ensure that the new reptile's health is ideal. Quarantine set ups make it easier to see any mites, parasites, or changes in feces, ect.

    • @census3370
      @census3370 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you can use the tank after quarantine. The answer is yes if your snake is healthy and passed quarantine from your observations. There should be no problem because you observed no illnesses or mites. It’s always good to clean the tank.

    QUESTION: what if you don’t have another room to put them in?

    • @shelbylawrie2682
      @shelbylawrie2682 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Kingken _ if you absolutely cannot put them in another room or even in another place like a friends or parents etc etc just keep them as far as possible from your other animals. Like across the room and make sure you keep everything separate don’t share feeding tongs, water bowls or other things that carry water like spray bottles etc or any other tools. Also use gloves and wash your hands after touching your new animal. Make sure to attend to this new animal AFTER you’ve finished your routine with your other animals for the day.

    We will be getting a second ball python in December, I’m curious as to after handling if you should change your clothes, shower, etc. Our current ball python loves to crawl all over us and our faces, etc. I’m intending on quarantining for at least 6 months. Obviously I want to build a bond with the new girl while keeping my other baby safe, so if she wants to crawl on my face etc I will let her do whatever she wants to explore me and get used to me. So showers, clothes? Is that all necessary?

    Hey! Sorry for the random question, but I couldn’t find an answer online. When figuring out what size cricket to feed a reptile, do you measure the crickets width or length? I know it’s the space between the reptiles eyes that determines it, but I’m not sure if that’s the width or length of the cricket? Thanks!

    I'm about to get a ball python or a rainbow boa and I really don't know what to do when I just got it.. I mean it would be my only snake, should I put in in quarantine though there aren't other pets which can get sick? or how do I know that my snake needs bigger rats? there are so many different advices and I really want to know EVERYTHING about the snake before I get it.. can you/or other snake owners recommend me maybe books or internet pages something?
    But thanks for this Video. I love it. It is very informative and answered some of my questions👍🙏

      Rinchen anything on moon valley reptiles website is useful. They’ve been around for almost 10 years. I’m not sure if they have anything on bp’s or rainbow boas, but if they do, it’s probably trustworthy! Good luck with your new snake!

    What if you got two of the same animals from the same place do you need to quarantine each of them separately?

      Equestrian Rose If they are from the same place and have already been around each other, it may be fine to quarantine them In the same room, but if it’s possible to quarantine them in separate rooms it would be ideal since there’s always a possibility one animal may have an issue the other doesn’t already have!

    How do you feed your snake in quarantine? Some snakes you have to feed outside it's enclosure, would you recommend doing that for a quarantine?

      Ariel Maddox If for some reason you have to feed your snake outside it’s enclosure, I would just do it in the same room and maybe have a designated feeding bin for that snake. 😁

      SGReptiles Yes, and I haven’t had any problems with shedding or my gecko acting abnormal. Most things you will find if you research will tell you this.
