Not sure if this was mentioned but most people will rinse the clay balls/hydro balls because they are super dusty. I grabbed a huge bucket, dumped mine in, rinsed, drained, rinsed again, you wouldn't believe the gunk that came off. It covered the entire bottom of the bucket in a layer of sludge and gritty bits

ivy is actually poisonous for crested geckos and many other small animals, although it might seem ok I would remove it because my crestie decided one day to eat a pothos leaf, luckily pothos are safe so she is ok besides being constipated for a bit while she passed the big leaf 😂 I love the setup so I hate saying this but I would hate for anything to happen to him especially since there is a chance that he could eat it.
Hey Tyler, I just wanted to let you know that unsealed terra cotta pots become sticky when wet and can actually make your cresties tongue stick to it if it drinks off of it or licks it when it’s sticky. My friend had a crestie that died because her tongue dried onto the pot that was in her tank and the tissue died so she couldn’t eat or drink anymore.
That looks awesome! I remember the painstaking process of doing the foam and siliconed background on my crested gecko enclosure, was worth the end result though and seeing how much my gecko likes it. Yours really looks great 👍🏻 (I’m a little jealous) 😄

Hi there:) I have a cresty in a bioactive 10 Gallon Tank but it’s not tall enough for him to climb at all. My big question that I want to know is would you recommend me changing all of the current media (coco husk and moss) to brand new media and buying all new mold eating bugs and such.. and the drainage balls for the bottom of the tank too. OR am I able to keep the current stuff and plants and just place them into the new tank??? I will probly forsure replace the drainage balls but the coco husk and moss is what I’m wondering. I’ve had them in there for a year now.
How can I make sure that springtails do not escape also will they take over and be everywhere in the enclosure after a while? I want a lovely place for my gecko but Im afraid of having bugs in my house..
That’s super awesome that you also mentioned Josh’s frogs. I got my lil guy yesterday and the employees at petsmart were surprisingly extremely nice, knowledgeable, and supportive. They recommended Josh’s frogs as well as tons of advice regarding how to care for them and making a bio active vivarium. Thanks for the helpful info ^^
oh, yes. Springtail culture, they had to send 3 repeat shipment for one that was actually alive. first two did not have any springtails alive in the jar. I hope you guys have better luck. I didn't. :-(

I was thinking of making my own tank but instead of using mesh , plastic tubs or even glass I was wondering of using clear 16 gauge vinyl so I was hoping if you’d let me know if it’s a good idea or bad

I been watching tons of videos on them and their enclosures, so when I saw I had a notification for this video i was so happy. It looks great! And I love the ending with your little guy, made me laugh lol. My biggest questions with bioactive setups that I have not gotten an answer to so if you know at all it would really help me out. Is there a chance of the clean up crew getting out? And at what point with a bioactive set up do you take everything out and clean it and use new substrate/clean up crew/hydroballs ect.? Kayla DeFusco I’m glad you found this helpful! (: the clean up crew definitely won’t get out. They live/thrive in the moist soil so they won’t leave it. Even if some did they would die in your house since they need a humid environment. As for cleaning, you shouldn’t have to if the bio setup is done properly. Just spot clean glass and any ledges, add leaf litter as needed, and you may have to replenish some of the isopods/springtails overtime if they aren’t reproducing.

Do you have any videos or recommendations of handling mold in a crested gecko bioactive enclosure I just never had a mold problem with my bioactive set ups for reptiles and I’m not sure what to do. some people say it’s bad because it can cause respiratory issues and to redo the whole cage some people say that it’s good and safe and won’t harm gecko if anything mold shows a successful set up. However, I wanna know if any of the stuff I’m researching is true and what to do next. The isopods and springtails are not eating it. the mold a group of these small little white dots They’re deep in the substrate And I only see it on the sides of the glass not even the top of the soil towards back corner of the enclosure and the mold is even on my a small amount of my hydro balls in the drainage layer I scooped some out airated the soil a bit since soil felt compacted and my crestie is in a little quarantine setup for the time being

My crested gecko is a little over a year old and he is still so tiny. He barely eats any food even tho I have tried different flavors. he rarely takes more than a few licks every other day, and occasionally some crickets, but otherwise he acts healthy. Should I be worried? Can I do anything to get him to eat more?

think it might not be ivy, think it's a ficus species - something like pumilia. that's very commonly used in these set ups :)
Pothos is toxic for animals if ingested too.

I’ve never had issues with spray foam sticking to glass, just make sure it’s fully cured before carving it
