    We've had mites on our ball pythons a few times and have a bit simpler process. First we take out the reptile and let him soak in warm water while we do the next couple steps. We remove everything from the enclosure and spray and wipe it along with the hide (we just use black plastic hides) down with the reptile spray shown in this video and allow them to air out before returning the reptile. Then we take the reptile that's been soaking and spray their body down with the reptile spray. We remove the excess with a paper towel and then spray some qtips with the spray and gently rub the animals head and chin creasd with it since this is where mites tend to be most concentrated. We also gently remove any visible mite with the soaked qtips. Its a bit tedious but it really makes a difference. Then we sprinkle some mite guard (found on amazon i believe) in the bottom of the enclosure put paper towels down, return the water dish and hide and then the reptile. Repeat once a week and no more mites!

      I have a wooden hide and everyone's been recommending that I just throw it out because of all of the small crevasses that mites could hide in, is there an easy way to clean the hide so I dont have to buy a new one?

      Isabel Mugaas It’s better to be safe than sorry. Your snake’s life is worth more than a few bucks. Just throw it out and either buy a new hide or make a new one.

      @MrNiceTeeth 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Isabel Mugaas you can soak them in bleach water... after you soak them (completely submerged) for about 45 min you want to rinse thoroughly.... spray it down with the pro Vent a mite and let it sit for a couple days... it should be good after that... just keep it away from your pet and enclosure during this process.

      All you do with wood and wooden decor is bake it I also freeze mine. Baking is between 250-300 degrees farinheit for an hour I do 285 degrees this also kills fungus so when they mold u wanna do this to after wiping it clean.

    • @critterc0rner
      @critterc0rner 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@star1729 if you dilute it with water, like only a few drops of bleach and the rest water it’s safe as long as you let it sit for 15 mins and your reptiles and other animals out of the room because it’s still very potent. I’m currently dealing with mites and I’m cleaning all my enclosures with bleach, it doesn’t kill mites but it can drown some and it can kill all bad bacteria these little buggers carry.

    What about spraying all that stuff before yoy even get mites. Not like everyday, but once in a while to prevent mites in the first place?
    Example: You bring a new lizard home. You put a little substrate in their quarantine tank and everything has already been sprayed with prevent-a-mite and you spray they lizard with the other mite spray.

    • @chomperthebadger9866
      @chomperthebadger9866 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some people do use it proactively when bringing a new reptile home. Especially if they have a large collection. Can you imagine a mite outbreak when you've got dozens or hundreds of snakes? Ugh. Personally I think it's a Pro's vs Con's type of deal. It will stop potential mites outbreaks but you are exposing your animals to a pesticide. Provent-A-Mite is an extremely powerful pesticide that has caused harm and death to people's animals when not used correctly. Which from what I've read it's unfortunately pretty easy to do. It's definitely a product worth researching deeply before using imo.

Spraying them with vinegar works, but im not sure if that could harm your pet. The bugs dont harm your animal though, they just eat feces, fungus, and decomposed plants, and soil.

      itsdizzy 1.illegal to own in some states and countries, 2. Really hard to take care, definitely NOT for beginners, 3. Not solitary animals, u need to at least own two so they dont go insane, and honestly much more
      U clearly havent done much research, so please either make sure ure 100% sure u know everything about them, or just dont buy them.
      Ps. Not trying to be mean, just an animal lover, trying to be informative.
      Hope this helped😊

    Do you know how to get rid a hamster of them? My white hamster Pinky has recently got mites or ticks and I am struggling with this issue at the moment. He's got a bold patch on his pinky white skin but I cannot see what has caused it as the tiny creatures are invisible.

      In that case its best to visit a vet.Its just my opinion.Cause I had 5 hamsters,and little black dots were on 1 of them.I visited a vet,its cheaper to visit a vet than buying a product.

    Im gonna get my first reptile (a ball python) in a few weeks and im wondering how important quarantining is when there isnt the chance of mites or anything to other reptile?? Would you still hVe to quarantine them for so long??

      Isa Faria I'd keep them on paper towels still for a while. There still could be a risk.

      If you don't have other reptiles then what would you be quarantining it from? Lol.

      I still recommend it. Keep it in a simple enclosure for at least 60 days to monitor it's health, activity, feeding and stools. If it does have an illness or mites and you've got it in am elaborate setup you'll have to disinfect and/or toss everything out in dealing with treatments. A simple quarantine setup is much easier to deal with and keep quickly on top of any issues that may pop up.

      Taylor Barnard it's still a good idea to keep any new reptile, be it your first or your 50th, in a "quarantine" enclosure for 60 days. If it's in a huge elaborate setup right out of the gate, then there's problems you could miss such as issues with excretion or eating.
