I gotta love how you laugh at yourself with that "imagine an American with an Indiana Jones hat walking in a graveyard talking about a mythological squirrel and chasing real ones".

Speaking of spiritual connections, whenever I have a problem or need an answer to a Question. I’ll call on Odin. Interestingly every time I do this I’ll see a Raven and it’s always timed. The most profound incident happened when I was walking one Day , two Ravens appeared together. Interesting that neither flew away as I approached , but seemed to watch as I passed, I felt a great presence that Day. Blessings to you and keep up the great work.

The story of Ratatoskr is probably one of my favorite stories from norse mythology. It's just so random I loved it.

From time to time I ask Ratatoskr to speak well of me up and down the length of Yggdrasil. You never want a carrier of information to have anything ill to say about you. Just my way of interacting with the spiritual and the gods.

    All Hail The Squirrel God!
Squirrels are very sneaky and often below notice, even in mythology.
I do love how the game Northgard added a Ratatoskr tribe and their deal is they get more resources in Autumn and use more in Winter, and instead of a meadhall, they get a stove and make meals which provide bonuses.
    Also, Medb is ponrounced Maev.

I always imagine the origins of ratatoskr being a squirrel run up a tree to escape a snake but there is an eagle on top of the tree. So he gets caught between the 2. So he runs up and down the tree deciding where to go until the eagle swoops down and he runs back down to escape the eagle and into the snake. Then the 2 start fighting.
To and onlooker it would kinda look like the squirrel was antagonizing them to fight each other.

I'm low key obsessed with the little guy, Our history teacher use to go on tidbits about norse mythology and when i heard about Ratatoskyr i got hooked, Squirrel was my fave animal from that day forward :'D When SMITE came out and he became playable there I just couldn't resist buying and playing him, And here we are today with Northgard having him as a tribe :'D (I know they are just video games but I like to think that he somehow got a nut of truth and became a minor deity :'D)

A very fun video I love these deep dive videos into rarely talked about things, I think your theory on the squirrel makes alot of scense, it was probably a perfect example of somthing for the ancestors, but whatever the case im pretty sure that red squirrel you filmed was rattataskar himself haha😂.

  • @AquilaCat

A squirrel experience like yours is what started me on my path to working woth deities. I was taking out the trash when a squirrel stopped in the middle of the sidewalk about 2 yards in front of me. It stared at me to the point where I actually said hello to it. Then it came closer until it was less than a yard away from me, stared at me very pointedly again, and then finally dashed off. Squirrels were a common sight at that apartment complex, but they always ran off when someone got too close so it was very strange to have one stop right in my path and approach me. I don't think it was rabid since it acted perfectly normally after that moment.
I still don't know who sent it. Artemis? Cernunnos? It might have been Freya? No idea for sure who it was but SOMEONE got my attention! I ended up offering almonds at the base of that squirrel's tree on occasion until I moved out of the area.

Here because my husband (a Saxon pagan) and son were approached by a squirrel today. No older than 8 weeks (at best) and it walked right up to them. No sign of the mother and perilously close to the road. The hubby immediately named it Ratatoskr lol.

Somewhere I read that Ratatorskr makes up half of the insults himself (possibly just a story tellers addition). They do chirp loudly. But if this was true, this only furthers the concept of an antagonizer, or perhaps sarcastic comedy.

I am an avid hunter and outdoorsman, the story of ratatoskr comes as no surprise to me, i have witnessed first hand hundreds of times the squirrels of the trees calling out their warning of the presence of danger (me) being in their territory and sending out a message to all the animals of the wood……in my opinion squirrels are messengers, but if you look deeper into the times of old kingdoms communicated largely by use of messengers, there was also an unwritten but closely followed law of the land that no harm should befall a messenger (dont kill the messenger) could this go hand in hand with the fact that ratatoskr passes unharmed between 2 predators that otherwise would make a snack out of him?…………🤔

Northern Italy pronounce the S as a soft c.
In Southern Italy S is pronounce as a z.
And Sicily has around 11 different dialects.
There is an ear defect where the cannel is press in during development in the womb, which causes minor hearing problems in hearing and learn speech. Eastern Germany/ Poland this is a normal defect in the population and it causes people to hear " R " as a W. Sticking a straw/ tube into a child ear straiten out the problem. I did have a speech problem as a child up to being a teenager and also German/ Sicilian. So I heard and pronounce my name of Kris as " Kh' gwriz" when I was in grade school.
My German born relatives called me Kh'gwris. They tend to growl and multiple generational hunting dog owners, so we grew up breathing like .. dogs.

Just wanted to point out after you said not many animal are gathering. That’s false. Near every European animal is preparing and conscious about winter. Bears, squirrels, some foxes, weasel, beaver, rabbit, ermine,... while most birds or predator animals will migrate far away following their bigger prey moving in herd. So yeah. Even ants are prepping for winter.

Well I always had a sort of bond with animals sinds I was small when I was a baby and someone was doing something wrong above my stroler my mom once told me I always was protected she didn’t understand why or how but once a eagle 🦅 came down and attacked a man that wanted to take me from my stroler just in time to warn my mom when older I played outside and I played with animals also squirrels like I used to throw nuts from the ground to them and they threw them back or a fox that ran after my ball and brought it back I never thought she was for real telling me that then I stood still when I was older she must have been correct cos even the most uncontrollable horse I could easy feed and wash and such dogs that listen even when not knowing me then I learned about peganism I started with herbs like wicca and such then I met my guide who is a Celt learning about friya him saying you always surrounded about cats they always come say hi that’s how I knew I was born for the path of pegan and I believe the squirrel had pegan knowledge that went lost

Ratatoskr is the the ancient husband, the male energy, that goes out into the world, to climb the social hierarchy by spreading and testing the logos, the word of his wife, the female energy, the goddess, the singularity, the vortex of light -> the serpent. The ideals of the social hierarchy are symbolized by the eagle on the apex of the world mountain, or in this case, the world tree.. Then at night he brings back the raw materials from the chaos and the feedback he received from her articulations, and she takes all of this and weaves (wife) the livable order out of it. That was the ancient deal between men and women, and it still is according to nature. There was nothing evil about the world of order, beneath the border between chaos and order; midgard. The ünderworld" was just home, the domus, the family, the roots. All this talk about evil is just the christians scaring you away from learning the beautiful truth.

All this stuff comes from ancient China, including the western zodiac. The zodiac signs are ancient Chinese musical symbols. The Chinese equivalent of the rat is Aries, king *ar- thor of the "apple land", who brings the hARmony and ORder, he who puts things in their place. Ratataskr is, in the short version of the story, Aries.

  • @KristenKras

Would make sense if squirrel mythology came from elsewhere to Iceland, it was settled by the Norse. You mention the squirrels exist in both worlds, perhaps a messenger (obvious) and the messages can be good or rubbish... Meaning that you can receive many messages from the Otherworld/s but not all will be quality messages, some will be from tricksters, etc.

I wrote a comment before but it was removed. I try again. Hi, im swedish please excuse my spelling erros. Edda was written in south of sweden and hidden on island. Island dont have trees. Vikings were masters in warfare. Ratatöskr is still today a important messege. Vikings language was rich with metaphores. Eagle nation = america. Dragon nation = asia. Falcon nation = middle east. Yggardsil = the world as we know it. Vikings were traveling and delivering messeges. Ratatöskr = vikings who delivered messeges between the nations. The moral of the story is the one who controls the information controls the gods and all great nations. The one who controls the messege controls everything. To act without being seen. Like todays false flags. Ratatöskr is like the 5th generational warfar. Look it up.

    • @mylinda565
      @mylinda565 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

They wrote edda because the knowledge is about now and important for us to know what happened in the past so we understand what happens now. Vikings never really lost.. they converted to christianity. Snorre who wrote the christian version of edda saw the importance of the message and only left out so the knowledge would survive til now. He had to put a christian spinn to it. Vikings (earls, jarls) united under one king and there was a benefit for them to convert to christianity. What was the benefit? Before they converted they would never turn the other cheek to bad leaders. Christians only serve god and accepted their fate under the king. Vikings were no slaves under their gods advise. Christians have to do as their god says. Therefor a bad leader had benefit to have a people under who would turn the other cheek to bad deeds. So who controls the infornation today? Who controls telecom buisness and can listen to all (like a all seeing eye)? Ragnarök, ragna = rank. Rök = destiny. There is a stone in sweden who is called rökstenen and its located in rök. (Destiny stone in destiny) It is a evidence for this union and the christianity who followed the new one king to rule them all. The people who wrote edda didnt want world domination under one leader.
