I've been thinking a lot about Ragnarök lately. Personally, I see Ragnarök on multiple levels of analysis. With that I mean that it happens on a global scale, as well as an individual scale and everything in between. You already mentioned the global events that are happening right now, which I agree with look like end times. The old world will die and burn, then a new one will be reborn from the ashes like the phoenix from Greek mythology.
On the individual scale, you will also constantly encounter Ragnarök. You are guaranteed to reach points in your life where you have to burn yourself down, or at least a little bit, to continue life. Simply to adapt to changes in your environment. I also think it is interesting that Yggdrasil seems to survive Ragnarök. To me, it symbolizes the part of yourself that remains the same across all these transformations, in other words the identity (this can be the identity of anything, from person, to family, to society etc.). Some of Yggdrasil's dead parts might be burned off, but that just makes room for new parts.
For example, imagine you're an alcoholic and you manage to stop drinking. What will happen? First of all, things are not going to get better, they are going to get worse. Things are going to get *much* worse, potentially fatal. However, if you make it through that part, things do get better. That's a point of personal Ragnarök, the death of alcoholic you, and rebirth of healthier you. It's still you, your Yggdrasil is still intact. You've just burned off the parts made you weak.

You put it very well. Individuals go through this sort of thing all the time, but in dribs and drabs, and they are usually oppressed by the world, which denies their right to awaken to greater spiritual insight. Often just locking them up and drugging them. At the moment, the conditions are right to push an awful lot of people at once to go through that kind of catharsis, so that it starts to become noticeable at a cultural level. Then the world cannot oppress it, because we become the world, and the ignorant close minded thinking of the past falls away, to be replaced with a more open and enquiring way of looking at the world. Less conflict, and more harmony and cooperation.
Yggdrasil, the tree has parallels in other belief systems. It is the huluppu tree from Sumeria, and it is the tree of knowledge from Eden. The image helps it to be understood by primitive people, but the tree of life is the energy that runs through our nervous systems. Roots running down our legs, branches running through our arms. The dark maid Lilith makes her home in the trunk of the huluppu tree, where the enteric nervous plexus is, guiding through gut instinct; the serpent is at its base, the kundalini; the anzu bird makes its nest in the top of the tree, in the brain. The intention of awakening is to increase communication through the nervous system between brain and nervous plexuses, so that intuition and intellect work as one, and thus one eye looks upon the world of symbols, and one eye looks upon the world of men.

When the subject of Ragnarok comes up, my first thought is always "which one?" Like you and other Norse Pagans, I do see it as primarily a cyclical event. All things have their time--and all things ends, and the conclusion of one era gives birth to the next. Pagans are uniquely qualified to be a beacon of hope these days. We understand the necessary turning of the Wheel and that all stages of being within a cycle serve a purpose and have to happen.
Yes, there are hard lessons to be learned in the coming years--but those lessons will serve us well as we re-build society (hopefully more wisely!)

I personally believe that Ragnarock comes with the rise and fall of civilisations, like you mentioned in the video. The interesting difference this time around is that we live in such a global world, that pretty much every corner of the world will be affected tremendously.

From someone who comes from a Catholic background, it’s interesting to hear how literally (or not) different religions view certain texts from their own lore. I’m learning about Norse Paganism due to my boyfriend being one. We enjoy peacefully discussing our differing beliefs and have found we have so much more in common than differences. I personally believe my apocalypse to be both describing a past event (the fall of Jerusalem and the reign of Nero) and a future event that will happen (the official end of the world), but described using heavy amounts of symbolism. It’s interesting to see that you take a similar approach to Ragnarok. I wonder if there are many who believe in the story from a literal pov? Or if people in the olden days were more likely to believe it literally, before science progressed 🤔

    Great discussion!
There are definitely some correlations to historical events, the Earth has natural warming and cooling cycles (about every 300 to 350 years on average, Nova Science has a great older documentary on this) alongside other disaster events that influence the seasons and climate for periods of time alongside geopolitical/ civilization shifts that prompt wars and other major events and progressions.
I agree, there is a Ragnarok underway currently-- the big question is to how long it will last, but it will come to an end and man and nature will again flourish once a balance is attained again.
Hail the Aesir and Vanir, skal brother.

I always love hearing your theories on mythology. You have an interesting perspective.
There's also the theory that at the end of each astrological age (period of 2160 years) there is some sort of calamity which ushers in the next age. Some people believe that we are nearing the end of the Age of Pisces and soon going to be transitioning to the Age of Aquarius. This could possibly have something to do with Ragnarok and the various apocalypse myths from other cultures.

I believe that Ragnarok is "LITERAL". However! I do agree with you as well. What I mean is that I believe we ARE IN FACT on the front end of Ragnarok at this moment... Wars over resources, the C-19 causing brothers, sisters, cousins, friends, and families to turn on each other! They are doing this by refusing to commune with each other, and being paranoid of catching something that has been fed to them as "SCARY". This resources will continue to dwindle, until the war of wars FINALLY breaks out! We need to stay positive towards one another. And unite as strong as possible more so than ever before.

Maybe; here in America at least. People need to go a few months with what’s going on in Italy, where they have to use candles. Have less use of electricity and especially smartphones/computers/tv, air conditioning. Retract from modern conveniences and just live. Yeah there’d be some issues(nothing much from what we’ve already been seeing) but get people to live without for a good 6+ months.

I’m always thinking about Ragnarok, but I’ve wondered about something. What if creation, life of Urd, and Ragnarok, are all cyclical. Let me give a few examples:
The flood of Noah, chaos and destruction of a mad and unfettered world.
The World wars, wartime chaos destroys much of Europe, millions die in the conflict, not to mention Hiroshima, with the nuclear blast being quite similar to the sword of Surt.
The Black Plauge, famine and plague ravage the world, almost decimating Europe.
Sodom and Gomorrah, fire falls from the heavens on wicked cities, similar to the sons of muspell falling on the earth.
The Ice Age, freezing cold, a world baptized in ice, The Jotuns
These are just my theories, but it certainly makes me wonder

I think not only is Ragnarok happening, but happening again. Our world is built on cycles, and if you look back in history, there are large times of unrest around every 100 years. We have current unrest, and around this time 100 yrs ago, we had both World Wars. I feel that Ragnarök isn't so much an Apocalypse as times of unrest and change

The Norse mythos does not stand alone as an isolate, but is part of a large tree of Indo-European mythologies and spiritualities, which as you point out, aren't to be taken *literally*, but are rather layers and layers of themes and symbolism.
Sri Dharma Pravartaka Acharya has spoken about this, convinced that we are in the middle of the Kali Yuga, the darkest of ages. But after this darkest of ages, there will be a rebirth. The Norse mythos, when viewed through a Christian lense (as it was for much of the 19th and 20th centuries), saw Ragnarök as the same as the Christian rapture and "end of the world". The Indo-European spiritualities don't see an end of the world, but always just the end of a cycle, and birth of a new. In the Norse mythos, this new world following Ragnarök is called Gimle, and is ruled by Balder - love and light.
I, too, am sure we're living in the end of a cycle, the Kali Yuga is a good term for it. Humanity is in a very poor spot now. Not looking back decades or even centuries, but thousands of years, humanity has slowly lost its grip and today, despite all our gadgets and comfortable lives, are dumber than we've been in a very long time - perhaps ever. We're clueless cattle, the vast majority helpless to save ourselves if our system shakes just a little, as in 2020. We're living in a time of spiritual decay. How many times have you heard of "spiritual leaders", regardless of religion, which are found to be self-serving, narcissistic perverts and molesters? Too often. And yet they may have followings in the millions, despite being deeply rotten people.
Not to even talk about politicians and our so-called "leaders". The people who are supposed to lead us are supposed to be the very best our species has to offer. Yet what we get, is the very bottom-scrape of humanity. Be a weak, spiritually sick, narcissistic, sociopathic and perverted human being devoid of soul or principle, and you could become a leader of men today. A strong, healthy, principled, wise, moral and honorable person CANNOT become a leader today. If that isn't proof of how far we have fallen, I don't know what is.
Everything that could be rotten and wrong in humanity, is all happening at the same time. We are spiralling towards the end of this cycle, but following this, there will be a golden age for our descendants.

I do think Ragnarok is largely metaphorical, put perhaps alludes to some cataclysmic event that happened, such as volcanic activity. The gods and their powers try to intervene and mitigate the damage to preserve what they can for humans. But there's only so much they can do against powerful natural destructive forces, and so much of their power was expended that they "died" or became less able to physically interact with our material world. Perhaps that's why they still seek to form relationships with us.

The 3 year winter is this pandemic we live in two years of fear of this death and now they say a new one (monkey pocks for anyone who hasn't heard) is on the rise and all our brothers and sister fight one another whether it's race or class or religion instead of standing together and I guess you could say that the giants are political figures. I'm not to great with piecing all of it together, but I see these thing but it doesn't make it Ragnarök but it doesn't mean we shouldn't stand together in hard time too. Love the video btw real eye opener for me been watching for 3 years now, keep up the good work skål brothers and sisters.

Hard not to make a link with what is going on in Ukraine: brothers and cousins are killing each others. And that conflict is starving parts of the wold differently. Africa is litteraly starving now while western societies (Canada for me) is seing constant increase in food prices but limited supplies.
If Ragnarök isn’t happening right now, the stage is being set for real soon IMHO.

Entropy is real. Every system, including the closed world system we live inside of, are subject to it. If this is true, then how do we exist now? Our morals, customs, traditions, laws, familiy structure, philosophies etc. do all seem to be systems suffering this Entropy. The dramatic degradation in them over the last say, 100 years, is abundantly clear. Big brother, a social experiment about what people are willing to do for a couple hundred thousand after taxes, is a spine shivering testimony to the current state of decay our society is experiencing. The mission is , frame being a scumbag in such a way that those whom you deceive, are proud to reward you with money. The winner is literally not only the worst person, but the most tactful at hiding it. The most tactful is the best at completly inverting 1st principles. This is one of the most viewed shows in television history, as milllions around the world worship the winners. Massive blobs of humans gather together in tiny areas by some sort of wierd city fetishing instinct, highly increasing the chances of a complete societal collapse. These pockets are so intertwined that all it would take is ONE natural disaster destroying one of the more prominent headquarters, or even more simply, a grid shutdown, and the entire population will suffer, wich might cause just enough panic in the other pockets that there is no reversal. Oooohhhh boy I can just smell the next reset. Look at the first civilization, Sumer, up until now. The pattern is, that NONE of them exist today. They ALL collapsed. The only difference is that they actually believed in ragnarok and attempted to prepare, as we, sadly do not, wich means it's even worse for us. We're the big one. We're gonna have it so bad that the stories we tell about it, will be so grand and far off from daily experience, that it will get scoffed at by ppl 6,000 years from now, right before they fall. Cyclical time is the only time that can be real.

The climate events that helped end the Bronze Age is a great candidate for a Fimbulwinter. That would certainly have contributed to the lessening of the worship of the sun god of the Nordic Bronze Age, with all the sun shield and sun ship motifs as well. From Wiki: "Some Egyptologists have dated the Hekla 3 volcanic eruption in Iceland to 1159 BC and blamed it for famines under Ramesses III during the wider Bronze Age collapse. The event is thought to have caused a volcanic winter." So, if it caused a volcanic winter all the way down in Egypt, it must have been worse in Scandinavia.
I agree with the cyclical concept and that the ending of any given thing is it's own Ragnarök, and when that thing is on the societal level, it can appear even worse. I think though, that the reason some heathens don't want Ragnarök to have already happened is simple. In Ragnarök, Odin and Thor die, and those heathens quite simply want to keep worshiping Thor and Odin, not start worshiping their children. But as one who leans more Anglo-Saxon myself, I'm not bound by Snorri and I think, along with every other PIE mythology aside from the Norse, as well as Husdrapa says, that the Altuna Stone possibly depicts, and along with the other believers that Snorri mentioned, that the Thunder Striker has already slain the Water Serpent and was not slain by it in turn. I think that Snorri's version is Snorri's attempt at the heathen Norse to have an Apocalypse of Snorri's own Christian religion, but I think there was likely an older version of the myth that more closely resembles other PIE myths, which means it already happened before the world order, and ironically would mean that it is a CREATION story, just like Indra slaying Vritra, Zeus slaying Typhon, and Apollo slaying Python.

TH-cam removed my comment after 2 weeks, I don't know why. I wanted to reply to someone with an interesting take. Too bad for youtube, I know how google works. So here's my original comment.
Things are going to get much worse, potentially fatal. However, if you make it through that part, things do get better. That's a point of personal Ragnarök, the death of alcoholic you, and rebirth of healthier you. It's still you, your Yggdrasil is still intact. You've just burned off the parts made you weak.

I think Ragnarok has a lot of Christian influence for the simple reason that Odin's son's stay in Hel until the event of Ragnarok when historically the Germanic ancestors knew that everyone went to Hel first before traveling to anywhere else so why are Odin's sons still in Hel? Second of all why are there only two humans left that eat from the morning dew in the fields and forests? The last one sounds very similar to a Genesis idea of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden right? Second of all wisdom never dies which Odin can be translated to wisdom and spirit among many other things if you go back to proto Germanic languages. Wisdom will fall but it will never be gone forever..... The main story of Ragnarok of how the gods made promises and oaths that they broke with the actions they made towards Fenrir which caused the norns to weave a different fate for the gods is a perfect example of how us humans need to keep our promises and oaths when we make them and the second example of how we should keep our oaths and promises is when Odin made a promise to never hurt Loki which when he gave the mistletoe spear to Hodr and threw it into Baldr Odin knew that he needed to be punished and that he had to break his oath which consequently changed not only his fate but the rest of the gods and humanities fate which are all connected. The stories of Ragnarok are reminders that us humans should keep our oaths and never break them not even break promises that we make to one another but on the other hand a lot of it has been influenced by Christians as propaganda to make the Norse believe that their gods would eventually die in the final battle for the universe and their tree would crumble and out of the ashes would come a new God the "God almighty" which for a lot of storytellers leave out the fact that at the end of the story of Ragnarok there's always a God Almighty at the end that is worshiped by a man and a woman named life and the stubborn will to live.. in Hebrew Adam and Eve represent life and a stubborn will to live as well so just ponder on that and make your decision but just remember us Germanic tribal heathens can never believe in the same thing as one another because then therefore we are just like the monotheistic faiths which make it a religion. Being a Germanic tribal heathen is following a spiritual path not a religion we all believe in different things we shall never believe in the same thing. ☯️

@@Z0neXDthebest another example to my previous Baldr statement is that Baldr will stay in hel till the twilight of the gods is over, which sounds eerily familiar to the Catholic belief that when Jesus died he descended into hell to collect some souls before his ascent back to the kingdom of heaven with them. The stories of the end times varied from tribe to tribe in the Germanic world I think as the Celtic beliefs varied from tribe to tribe there too.. same thing about the view of death and God's/Goddesses, trolls, spirits, parts of the soul and how humans came to be as it is different from lets say Cherokee beliefs and pacific northwest native beliefs.. or Seuibi germanic confederation of tribal beliefs and cherusci tribal beliefs. Not everyone has the same beliefs as one another, some believed in one or two gods such as Tyr and Freyr and some believed in none except for the animistic aspects of the germanic spiritual ways. Some incorporated Celtic beliefs into their germanic beliefs as well as Christian worldviews, which is probably why we see Valhalla as the ultimate destination and ultimate goal in life as a germanic/Norse heathen. Idk only our ancestors know because they were there, not us. It's important to keep storytelling alive and move forward and help evolve our understanding of our faiths to keep them alive as our ancestors evolved theirs from a strictly solar and lunar worship and an animistic one in the bronze age to a polytheistic one to keep up with what they perceived to be their modern ways of thinking back then.

We've, as humans, have survived plagues 1000 times worse than covid. We've survived terrible wars and famine so awful cannibalism was a viable option for some. We might not be living in a utopian society, but we've definitely lived through far worse.

Ι believe is something like a great reset of the world as happened about 9000bc with the Deucalion flood. The way that will happen this time I think is with the ww3 when the nuclear bombs will kill most of the man kind and very few people will survive to build the civilazation from the beginning again hopefully better this time. What we can do is to be prepared to fight so we have a chance to be survivors so we can transfer some of our knowledge to the new generations that will live after. Even if it doesnt happen to us it is very possible to happen at the time of our children our grandchildren.

Odin returned about a decade ago. He's not all that much to write home about though. Very stoic and passive. He is patient. The powers that return, approximately once every millennium ebb and flow. Lilith says it is neutrinos. I've not been able to verify this, but I made predictions based upon a rise in neutrinos acting like microwaves, agitating magma, causing earthquakes, volcanos, etc, and the predictions were accurate. Calving of Icebergs, to produce the ice giants in the Northern seas is obvious. The energy connecting with nervous systems and minds, has an effect on people psychologically. People's moods change. They become more volatile generally, and they become more extreme in their usual characteristics. The become more nervous, anxious, frantic, harder working, and they seek escape. The pharmaceutical addiction being promoted globally is not as helpful as humans think it is. It is damaging people who are trying to go through a process of rebirth and growth.
Some people, for whatever reason, start to become personalities which have been here before. Odin being an obvious example. I had one come to me on Twitter once, and he said, "I am Thor, and you have Thor in your name, wouldn't it be funny if one of us knew someone with the characteristics of Loki." I told him Loki lives about 30 miles away from me. We have known each other for quite a while. That chap didn't come back to me after that.
I consider that we are all supposed to know ourselves as divine, and have a clarity whereby we are comfortable in our own nature, and we flow smoothly with the guidance of Frigg. I would consider this to be a condition of Odin, and I would consider that any who are like this are Odin. This doesn't change the fact that I know Odin, and he is currently in Queensland. In the JudeoChristian tradition he is known as MIchael. I am a little bit more complicated. Open to experience. I have seen a lot. I would argue that I am also Odin, but unfortunately, he was Odin first.
It is Ragnarok. If you pull together all the clues from all the faiths and religions, the patterns are easier to see. 2020 was key. Year started with Pope Francis slapping a woman's hand in anger, and then the Pestilence came. Year ended with the Christmas Star formed of Saturn and Jupiter. That solstice marked the passing of Baldur, and the fall of Asgard. Asgard will rise again, and we enter a new dawn for humanity. Faith will grow, and the ignorant mindset that simply rejects anything too difficult to think about will diminish.
