  • In nature, honey bee colonies do not generally combine themselves. Rather, small, weak colonies are robbed of their stores and they subsequently starve as the seasons cools. However, a common beekeeper/assisted management scheme to to combine the weak colony with a slightly stronger colony. I sense that primarily, what is happening is that the beekeeper gets the equipment cleaned by the bees and wax moths entry is restricted. There does not appear to be much of a reward in the plan for the stronger colony.

Sorry all of your splits didn’t pan out, but it’s good to see you. I found you from the three podcasts and recently enjoyed last year’s combined Holiday Special. 💛🎄🌟🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Merry Christmas to you, Jim. Have a good Winter.

What if the qween right hive is small and week? Like a freshly caught swarm??

Marvelous … thanks! Can you add a swarm and dump all the bees into an empty box (empty of frames) above the weak colony? Wouldn’t the swarm strengthen the weak colony?
