Gel plate printing + mountboard stencil stamps

  • A quick video sharing some of the techniques I've been trying with my gel plate this week. I wanted stencils that I could reuse so paper was frustrating so I tried mountboard. Turns out they are great for clean, graphic shapes like text, numbers, geometric shapes and signage but also silhouettes of natural forms like leaves too.

Really enjoying watching this print series develop, alongside your development of techniques! Wonderful imagery, totally my type of aesthetic, and thoroughly enhanced by your choice of media and technique. Also love the variety of marks, textures, and... "styles" isn't quite the right word, but... "character" is maybe closer... the variety of marks, textures, and character of source material in your final patchwork. Pretty much wishing I could buy everything you make! (Except that I do want you to reach the scope and kind of audience you so abundantly deserve....) : )

I've just found your channel. What a find! I watched quite a few of your printmaking and gel printing videos. I love my gel plate too and I'm constantly finding new techniques. I'd love to introduce some other forms of printmaking into my art. I've made texture plates using fun foam but fascinated by your masking tape technique. Then I found your one month little short video. Wow, your subscriptions have grown tenfold since then! To answer your questions from way back then, love your style, videos are the right length and instruction is just enough without being drawn out. The videos of the kids drawing with you are brilliant. What talented children. The only thing I would like to see you add is more about you. What's your name Mr Yeates? Are you a full time artist? What do you do with all your work? Now I'm away to pick up a pencil and draw something.

Thanks Rona - very glad to hear you're away to pick up a pencil! Thanks, too, for comments about videos / content etc. I'm getting a feel for what there is an audience for now so plenty more will be coming soon! Maybe I should add a bit more on the 'about' section of my page. You've made me realise it's a bit brief!
