    A wonderful variety of methods which I hope to try. I only learnt about Gelli printing last week at my Friday mixed media art class. Everything I have discovered this year has been new to me as I’ve not done any art work since I took A level - in 1968 😳 I have found your creative ideas the most stimulating on TH-cam Gelli art. Thank you

    Hola Mark!
Gracias, muchas gracias!

      A hair dryer can help immensely with the impatience factor. You may want to use it without heat on, for your gel plate, although I believe low heat should be fine. It'll make a huge difference in how quickly your layers dry!

    I think the black and white ones were my favorite. Normally I love color. But there was something so refined about those two. Perhaps that’s not the right word. I’m not even sure what I mean. The black and white just felt so much more intentional and therefore more “artsy” than the others. I’ll stop babbling now, I know this makes no sense, lol.

    Great video. Are you using acrylic paint or a type of printmaker’s ink? I absolutely love the look of these and I’ve been trying it out, but when I use acrylic paint, the pulls looks like a gloppy mess! Should I be sending the paint or using a different medium altogether?

    • @yeatesmakes
      @yeatesmakes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Heather - acrylic paint, thin even layers, needs to be thin. If you are pulling more than one layer, let the first layer dry thoroughly and then pull of with a thin layer of wet acrylic.

  • @CraigsOverijse
    @CraigsOverijse ปีที่แล้ว

    you can also stick you gelplate onto a piece if acrylic sheet cut to size as a way to mount stuff but see through both. Also have you tried using baby powder between paint layers on a gel plate or vaseline resists?

    • @yeatesmakes
      @yeatesmakes  ปีที่แล้ว

      vaseline resist sounds intriguing - are you painting, smearing straight onto plate?

    • @CraigsOverijse
      @CraigsOverijse ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yeatesmakes I am still just begining to wonder about this as a medium to resist so was curious if you had ever worked with it. In videos I have come across from other gel printer artists on youtube they usually show it used with on top of a gel printed page via stencilling it on. I have seen it applied either by brayer or finger tip applications, (no one seems to have tried a palette knife that I saw yet) they then use this vaselined pages to pull a second differently coloured print and by rubbing gently with a baby wipe it reveal the colour under the vaseline.
      However I am also wondering if it was thinly painted what effects it could produce as resist medium have been to the local shops and picked up the vaseline just need to find a day to really play with it and see what I can find other than as stencil resist which does also look good I have to say. FYI here is one video showing this I have seen a few more but has got me thinking as I said and just wondered what someone withyou level of skill could do with it th-cam.com/video/Ouqs9K_88UY/w-d-xo.html

    Mark: what kind of paper were you printing onto? It looked quite sturdy to be able to take the stitching. Also....if you add tissue paper collage to the paper with gel medium before you start to print, will the paint transfer satisfactorily from the gelli plate onto the areas with gel medium?

    • @yeatesmakes
      @yeatesmakes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi F R, I think it was a sheet of 140gsm drawing paper. In response to your question, yes, adding tissue to paper before you start printing works. However, just like with building printed layers onto non porous surfaces, you will have to figure in longer drying times.

    Have you been able to pull a print from a photograph printed on a laser photo copy? I've tried different paper and Amsterdam acrylics and just can't do this. I've tried different paper like chip shop paper, magazine paper, different thicknesses of paper even produced my own types of prepared paper, oiled, pva, albumen, printing inks, acrylic paints and absolutely nothing.
    What I can do is pull a magazine print but even when I've printed onto magazines via the laser printer it still will not produce the laser image. Any ideas please, I'm sure I'm not the only one that would like to know this answer. Your videos are very inspiring thank you.

      I have made a video -
      th-cam.com/video/M12EqYEQ7Qw/w-d-xo.html
      - using a laser print out of a couple of my photos. The important part was editing the photos and then trial and error with the amount of acrylic, pressure, length of time with copy on gel plate etc. wasn't using amsterdam paint in this vid, but have tried it since with amsterdam and it worked well. i can only suggest, rather than running a photocopy of your orginal photo, instead scan it and then print it out on the highest quality setting so your blacks and nice and dense. best of luck - don't give up!!!
