Hey that grixis deck was me! I was so sad that i didn't get to show off my cool deck since i just couldnt hit my land drops. I play 25 lands, but there was nothing i could do.
Also, i havent had much trouble with the 3 color manabase. Its all about proper balance. In this format with no fetches, you have to refrain from having too many double pip cards. My list only had the anger of the gods and pia and kiran as double pips. Also all the looting helps. Generally though i would refrain from playing too many 3color decks in the format.
@@SomeFreakingCactus don't get me wrong, I think the format will settle and people will inevitably complain/exalt the format. But this begging, like you said, has a lot of people trying out different stuff.
@@MTGGoldfish I much prefer it over Lord of the Accursed. The anthem is nice, but creating a 2/2 for every zombie you cast is insane. I think I'd also have played Stitcher's Supplier over the 2 mana 3/2. Milling 6 powers up Liliana, Relentless Dead, and a hypothetical Diregraf Colossus

Zombie tokens don't help with Gary, have been trying to build this in Modern. Gary was only a 2 of and the tokens from Diregraf worked toward the aggro plan so good in that deck. Deck builders' choice and what suits your play style. Fill the board and stay alive until Gary hits or go "ham".
I've been playing this with more low cost zombies, some murderous riders, some colossus'. I cut the lilianas to try to make this deck feel more like mono black aggro, and it runs much smoother. I run some of her in the sb against more controling decks, amd she shines in replacement of gary in those games. I like speeding the deck up a bit and playing more 1-2 drop zombies to abuse relentless dead, and benefit from lord of the accursed. It's a fun list! (P.s. i run thoughtseize)
I think he realized it he just chose not to. First turn if he ticks down the opponent can make 2 thopters in response. Virtuoso dies but the thopters kill liliana the following turn. So he trades liliana for whirler. At that point why not trade noxious grasp instead to keep the walker? Second turn the opponent has 12 energy. I think Seth just saw that ticking down wasn't lethal (4 thopters could be created) and made a mistake by delaying the decision. Maybe he just chose to wait and see how the opponent blocks. It was wrong but it ended up giving him a chance to win that turn in the end. If he had ticked down he'd have had no chance of winning that turn.
Yeah. I think the worst case there is Whirler making a bunch of Thopters. I don't think we would be able to beat them very easily. Seemed better to try to avoid forcing the opponent into making a bunch of 1/1 fliers.

With 28 Zombies, Liliana UBD's uptick is ~85% to hit. (Small sample size in this video (11 activations plus one virtual activation), but fwiw your hit record was 8/12, ~67%.)
It's much less at almost every point it is activated if you look at lands vs zombies in play and even less in sideboard games when he boards out zombies.

Classic black tribal! I think Elves would also work as classic green tribal in Pioneer because of Llanowar Elves and Elvish Mystic both being legal, there's some Lords, and they can be combined with Beast Whisperer and Elvish Visionary to make some sort of Elfball deck - maybe End-Raze Forerunners as a bad Craterhoof Behemoth or Kahamal's Druidic Vow as a bad Genesis Wave powered by Nykthos for a Mono-Green Devotion deck?
It's a decent sideboard option, but seems very meta dependent. If you don't have a ton of Bogles decks to deal with seems like having a 3 mana sweeper would be preferable in a lot of matches
its not only boggles that worries me. rakdos and aristocrats are still a thing, nissa too. and im sure embercleave is gonna rear its ugly head soon in pioneer.

As far as cuts, drawing only 1 Liliana-4 and Relentless Dead per game is perfectly acceptable if you're looking for more room for removal or hand disruption so those could go down from 4 to 3; maybe a Swamp could get the boot as well. Deck looks sick - sick like zombies! Brains!!!

Honestly, i feel like with the slower pace, playing colorless land that can tap for mana, mana rocks with some late game utility, and a few tap lands can work. Also i feel like land packages like Gates with Guild Summit and Gates Ablaze become more powerful. Brewing a list that runs Fires with Gates and Risen Reef to ramp, saving mana to interact or draw with Summit. Also threw in some Panharmonicons for the lulz. Its actually fairly hiliarious.
Man how could Seth NOT run Diregraf Colossus and despite the sorcery speed Dark Salvation is amazing early game removal and late game mana sink against Grundy match ups.

On today's banned list it was: Felidar Guardian, Leyline of Abundance and Oath of Nissa (although banning Felidar is sort of like banning Saheeli, since she never sees play without the combo).
Ratchet bomb seems like a good sb card for mono black decks. Good vs tokens and can deal with other problematic permanents. And many zombies have recursion.

Metallic mimic was a huge part of this deck. And you want a cheap coffers or 2 for late game lilli minus, and possibly stitchers. And lifebain zombie is maybe the best zombie. Cryptbreaker isn't at all needed with castle. And lillis edict is just a better to the slaughter in this deck. Seriously though some people called lifebane the best card in mono black devotion with 0 zombie synergies. And notice how every deck you played against was green or white. And running 4 4s and 4 5s is a bad zombie curve and with stitchers and lilli mill you should always have access to gary with 2 to 3 by time you hit 5. And stitchers mills you so you don't have to activate the plus on lilli when it comes down because its the shittiest mode by far as its like 60 percent to hit.
Golden Demise was a bad sideboard option against Bogles. You're never going to race them to three mana to try and kill them with two damage. The most it will ever do is open the way for a To The Slaughter, and then you;re basically paying six mana to kill their creature. By the time you get to six mana, it looks like the game is generally over.
53:13 Why would someone do that? Seth had lethal on board just by paying 2,tapping cryptbreaker discard a card and making a zombie. The opponent had enough information to know that he was going to die if he did that.

What exactly does regisaur do? Get big? Lords enable the rest to do that. Doesn't contribute a ton to devotion, gets chumped, and has bad synergy with the cryptbreakers that you'll typically want to activate on the opponent's end of turn.
That ww deck was super unoptimized fyi, playing the wrong gideons and no history. Pioneer is fun for brewing because the average deck is just bad. Wait until it gets a pt level format and pros actually put effort in. But it makes it tilting to watch.
To the slaughter is close to a strictly worse lillis edict in a 4 lilli deck, and mimic stops pro color shenanigans. And vs mono white he is running 4 copies of gods willing it wasnt that lucky at all and you dodged history, it was a fairly bad mono white draw. Not to mention 4 3 mana gideons both of which crush you.

Seems good but kamal's druidic vow is a legendary sorcery and you need a legendary creature or planeswalker

My guess would be that they are trying to break the symmetry through lords, which doesn't work with soot. Just my 2 cents though.

A zombie deck without a regisaur is not a zombie deck
What exactly does regisaur do? Get big? Lords enable the rest to do that. Doesn't contribute a ton to devotion, gets chumped, and has bad synergy with the cryptbreakers that you'll typically want to activate on the opponent's end of turn.
I like drawing cards, not discarding them ;)

Pioneer is fun for brewing because the average deck is just bad. Wait until it gets a pt level format and pros actually put effort in. But it makes it tilting to watch.
To the slaughter is close to a strictly worse lillis edict in a 4 lilli deck, and mimic stops pro color shenanigans.
And vs mono white he is running 4 copies of gods willing it wasnt that lucky at all and you dodged history, it was a fairly bad mono white draw.
Not to mention 4 3 mana gideons both of which crush you.

Wow, the deck doesn't seem that good without Gary. Seemed like Gary won you just about every game. I really hope Gary doesn't get banned! :-)
Yeah, Gary was key in a lot of our matches. It's really powerful (although I don't think it's even on the watch list for banning at this point).
