      @MTGGoldfish  5 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      While Thoughtseize does punish our janky combo decks, it also keeps legitimately powerful combos (like Inverter) in check. I think it's an important part of the format, even if it does beat us sometimes.

      I played a Diligent Excavator mill deck with 0-cmc artifacts once. Ended up having to exile my own graveyard (with a Tormod's Crypt) in response to the inevitable Thoughtseize/Surgical Extraction combo threatening to take away my Paradoxical Outcomes which were the real powerhouse of the deck; better to lose one than the other 2 floating around in my library). So turns out janky combo pieces can fight off at least the Surgical Extraction part...sometimes!

      @@davispo7550 I put a lot of thought and testing into my list, so I personally prefer mine, but the 1 thing I like from Saffrons list is Wily Goblin. You grab fanatic, reckoner, rageblood and any other minotaur and that’s 11 exactly. Play to all your outs, make your opponent kill you

  • @Killmatronix
    @Killmatronix 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    In hindsight, would you consider a playset of the white leyline in the sb over star and some other more niche cards in the presence of thoughtseize? Also, in my version, I went a bit heavier on the minotaur plan, seeing how every minotaur worthwhile enough is pioneer legal (other than some of the horizon changelings), but I think that the heavy devotion plan makes it much better. That said, I'm surprised you haven't thought of Neheb, the Worthy or Felhide Petrifier. For Neheb, is it because of the instances where you have a war cry stuck in your hand and can't get down to 1 card on the key turn? Petrifier, I can understand better, because it's black and you're running with 8 sources, but 1 copy over Minotaur Aggressor means a more castable, better minotaur and allows it to work with Rageblood Shaman in order to push all that trample damage through the deathtouch/trample interaction. Conversely, that's why Neheb would work as well, since first strike isn't heckbent dependent, and deathtouch/first strike kill everything in combat.
    On the other hand, I would love to see you try on a minotaur tribal list in Pioneer. I've tried both modern and pioneer minotaurs and have been tinkering with lists for a few years now. My conclusion is that vial is crucial for a Rakdos list to work in modern, while a pioneer list would need CoCo. But the concern about that is the mana, and I'll go ahead and say that I'm not good at mana calculation.
    Regardless, another wonderful decklist. Cheers.

    You know, Rakdos Minotaurs didn't lose much going from Modern to Pioneer. You can play it keyword salad, which is how I do it, going as far as to add Whip of Erebos for some longevity. I've won games turn five with 50+ hp regularly with the whip. Thoughtsieze is great to drag out a game to turn five. Though we can win turn four, turn five is usually the turn we win. The deck looks like an aggro deck, but it plays like Stompy/Midrange. It's not bursty like this build, but any hand can work as well as any other. Petrifier, Rageblood, Whip, Warcaller and Neheb the Worthy come together like a brutal puzzle and being such a cheap deck, how can anyone resist the minotaurs?

      All minotaurs get +3 attack so thats 12, the minotaurs attack is 2,4,2 and then between 3 and 6 so another either 11 or 14. Mogis is going to deal between 5 and 8... So between 28 and 34 only with that card on an empty board. If there is an extra boros reckoner in te field that guy would add 9 more damage

    I think this deck wants flame slash as a better removal than wild slash. Yes, instant speed is lost, but killing big things?

      Flame slash is not legal in Pioneer.

    if there was a war cry in the next few cards i think you could have won round 1 game 2. neheb also seems like exactly what this deck wants, surprised you only played one.

    I wonder if War cry could have been viable if it was 7 mana instead of 8; you kept ending up just one mana short

    • @MTGGoldfish
      @MTGGoldfish  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It would be a lot more competitive if Irencrag Feat made enough mana to cast it all by itself. I think Wizards might have printed War Cry at eight to avoid that on purpose.

    • @GamerdevilPro
      @GamerdevilPro 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MTGGoldfish yeah probably since it is one of these theme booster exclusives and they are supposed to be not competitive I think.

      I considered Neheb the Eternal, but we really want to cast Deathbelow pre-combat if we can, so making mana post-combat isn't that valuable.
