One of the most common questions I get asked is "what skills do I need to become a business analyst?" Back in 2019, I started my career as the youngest business analyst at Spotify (since I started right out of college). As glitzy as that sounds, this was also the period in my life when I experienced the most crippling case of imposter syndrome; Self-doubt became my reality and quite frankly, I felt 'less than' my peers at work. This video compiles the three key skills I wish I had known when I first started out on my Business Analyst journey. Whether you're a new grad looking to start a career as a BA or someone who’s looking to transition into a BA role, I know that the first time trying something new can seem scary, but the one guarantee in life is that nothing stays “first” forever. To those of you thinking of embarking on your BA journey, I'm cheering for you! More [career chat] vids to come, lmk what topics you want me to ~deep dive~ into. -Lillian

In my 5 years experience as BI analyst, 90% of the time we just develop the reports, we don't do business insights. That part is done generally by the person who requested the report which usually knows more the business area. ***I have to add, that I was referring to the BI role, which is different from the BA. Although very often used for the same, the BI focus on descriptive analysis, while BA are more about predictive analysis. Therefore it makes sense the difference in the work experience that I commented.

super interesting! not sure if this is a spotify thing, but our projects are generally super collaborative and teams rarely work in silo. so I’d come up with my insights first, present it to the team who requested it, they will come with the specific 'tactics', then we build out the strategy together bc I'd also need to evaluate the results of the strategy down the line. there is a edge case though - there are times when an insight we see relates to multiple teams and becomes a cross-functional project. in that case, I'd have to be the one that gather every team's 'tactics' and collectively build a 'strategy' with them together. the weighing on how much analysis vs strategy depends on the company and your specific team's place in the org

Data Analytics is the broad profession that involves analyzing data to solve problems....
The specific area where we then apply Data Analytics is what would then determine if we'd call the profession: Business Analytics, Healthcare Analytics etc
So, gaining specialized knowledge of the domain in which we want to apply Data Analytics to is what qualifies you to call yourself a professional in the streamlined field.
As a Data Analyst or Data Scientist, you can work in Business, Agriculture, Healthcare etc. You analyze Data to solve problems.
However, as a Business Analyst, you'd get extra trainings in the field of business; such as, understating key business metrics, knowing how to analyze sales data to predict future sales.
As a Financial Analyst: In addition to understanding statistical analysis (Data analysis), you'd learn how to use statistics like standard deviation to determine the risk of an investment option over the other.
As a Healthcare Data Analyst: You'll use data science to predict the outcome of a drug treatment. You can also conduct prescriptive analysis so as to prescribe which drug combination would be best for treating a disease.
You could also develop an AI algorithm that matches people that need organ transplant with organ donors faster.
The summary is that Data Analytics is the core and studying it would give you a broad perspectives of the different use cases of solving real world problems with Data.
On the other hand, studying Business Analytics would make you a more specialized as a Data Scientist that is efficient at solving business problems with data.
Your choice on what course to study finally depends on your interests. Do you want to keep your options open? If yes, consider studying Data Analytics. Do you want to stand out from the pool of people that generally refer to themselves as Data Analyst? If yes, then get extra knowledge of a specific domain and pursue a career in the path (so studying Business Analytics would be great in this case, but not necessarily so).
I said it's not necessarily so because you can have a degree in Data Analytics and with the knowledge, build a portfolio only around use cases for Business. Take extra lessons on how to use Data to solve business problems and apply for Business Analytics roles. Your degree in Data Analytics would still be a huge plus in the mind of recruiters because you have a foundation.
On the other hand, if you had a degree in Business Analytics, it might not be directly related to applying for roles as a Healthcare Data Analyst.
Yet, it's not bad, provided you learn how to analyze clinical data and build a portfolio around it. You'd still be a better candidate than others who doesn't have a related degree.
Finally, if your goal is to strictly work in Business settings, you want to be an entrepreneur or work in Management Consulting or strategy consulting, just study Business Analytics.
But if you're exploring the world of tech and would love to keep your options widely open, then study Data Analytics.
      I hope this response helps.
P.S: My battery was low while typing this and I wasn't sure I'd see this comment again when next I open TH-cam.
Please pardon any typo errors that might appear in this writing and interpret each paragraphs with logic.
      Cheers ❤
      Benita Alagha.

The workflow and pattern, pretty much like a startup, needs those skills you brought up in the video too. How we can transform seemingly mundane everyday data into insightful information and how proper wrangling/ processing can empower the data itself have been something we must need to learn and keep working on. 一起加油!雖然BA, DA, DS,...相同職位在不同公司的詮釋可能有落差,但工作核心觀念絕對是適用於不同企業及甚至不同產業的,整理非常清楚很值得學習!Look forward to more quality content. In my 4 years experience as a BA, we never had to look into the business insights. What we, the BAs are required to do is to analyze the app/website we are working with and talk to customers and look into how to make it better for them (develop more features, take out some features, improve the user experience etc.). Then after analyzing that and taking the decision to, for example, add another feature that the customers need, we analyze how to make the best of that feature, how it should look, how it should work etc. But, most probably, we are Business Analysts in different departments in our companies xD
