I think that's to do with the sparse pedestrian usage, as the lower 'bunk LIDAR' is typically only used for animals and small children, a hazard in busier places (IIRC). I had a feeling that alarm would eventually pack it in tbh

They're LIDAR's that scan the crossing for obstructions while the barriers lower. That's the only time the covers on them are open.
