Impressive restoration of a framing slick. But even more importantly, you have an awesome collection of vintage tools. I’m envious. Also, thank you for using nothing but tool sounds, no insipid music to detract from the sweet sound of tools in an artist’s hands.
I have to comment, you are the real deal craftmen!!! No electrical devices. Just pure old fashion craftmenship. Your attention to detail is amazing. I just subscribed. Keep up the excellent work👏👏👏
That thing is amazing! Looks like it was a long project and well worth it. I loved seeing the human-driven versions of all your mechanical power tools, and this video taught me a lot about what certain tools do. Great lesson in manufacturing. Thanks for sharing!
Your foot-pedal lathe and use of a hacksaw and file are admirable. It's also nice to see a blacksmith using his hands and an anvil. Good to see you treating that old tool with respect by carrying it in a padded case. That piece of cherry-wood has a nice grain for "whittling". So cool to get exercise whilst you save utility costs too. You must have very strong legs? Was that a leather pad to hone the finished chisel? Great restoration project there. Congrats. The big chisel could be ideal for de-barking logs too?
Nice job Chris. It is really great to see old tools and old methods of work kept alive. Too much dependence nowadays on electric tools. Keep up the videos
A draw knife is designed to be used with the bevel down, not up. This allows you to easily control the depth of cut. Also use it in a slicing cut, at an angle of 30 degrees or greater to give a much smother cut than the scraping cut that you were using. The thing makes the work go much faster and easier. I enjoyed the video.
I have been watching you for 4 years now. Really liked this one. I learned a lot from my dad he was a mill wright. My brother was a sore head loser. I have more tools than most men. Yes, I am female. Log to bowl I watch often. Love peeking in the corners of your seller. God bless you and yours.
The chisel restoration was fantastic. I love word work and the craftsmanship behind it was extremally interesting and all of it without electricity. I have made table lamps and other furniture......so keep up the great word work.. David Scofield
Holy cow, you are a master! I love the double swell of the handle. I admit to thinking the blade was a lost cause, but you saw it’s potential shine through the pits and uneven surface. In the end it doesn’t actually matter if the face of the steel is pitted, because the very edge is doing all the work and the rest just glides over the wood.
Very good results for a LOT of effort. Thank you for sharing. I especially liked the post drill as I am in the middle of restoring an old one myself. Lots of fun. What kind of wood did you use for the handle?
@@ChopWithChris One of my grandfathers was among other things a farmers blacksmith as was my great grandfather on my mothers side of the family. I was exposed to a lot of old tools and ways of keeping farm equipment going. That may have been why I chose tooling and engineering as a career when I got old enough to have a clue as to what I wanted to do with my life. No regrets other than I wish I had had more time to learn the old ways from them. I like your approach to your videos as will as the things that you do. I wish the best for you and your family --
Awesome Chris, using the lathe as impromptu grinder brush was very clever. I like that you kept the rustic look on the body of the chisel. Looking forward to seeing this newest addition be used in one of your future project. Keep up the good work my friend :)
I've always admired your willingness to jump in and do projects you don't necessarily know how to do. I can see it pays off. For instance, I'm very impressed at how good you've gotten at turning on your self-made lathe. =0)
Dear Chris, thanks for sharing your journey on this one. I was amused that every time you needed to do a different job, you made a hand driven machine for the task. You’ll eventually run out with one of everything in your shed. Lovely turning work. Cherry is beautiful timber with which to work. All the best.
Chris, I love your totally hands on approach, hard work on vintage tools, ect. they should show this video to kids in Grammar School, Instead of the garbage they show them, this a great video to show them hard work pay's off,
Nice work, that was great 👍 I'm no wood turner, but in high school I recall adding those decorative rings around handles and table legs etc, and rather than cutting them in with a chisel we wrapped some tie wire around the back of the workpiece and then pulled lightly on both ends of the wire such that it burnt a recessed ring into the timber.
Смотрю и поражаюсь - насколько же сейчас легче и быстрее работать с деревом и металлом. Электроинструмент облегчил работу необыкновенно. Спасибо тебе, дружище, за окно в мир прошлого!

all the restorations within a restoration video.
I'm impressed with how you can keep your hands so steady while pumping away on the lathe.
