Love the apparent toe space from this brand & this new model has even more toe splay space! Amazing, wish more barefoot shoe brands would be as bold as Splay shoes with the (proper natural) foot shaped toe boxes.. where the big toe can actually properly extend out & away from the other toes like the feet of wild / natural tribes people. Really like the look of this shoe also & multiple colour choices, Splay nailed it with this 101* 👌
Just got mine today! I saw the look and was quite obsessed, however, even in your video, the toe box doesn't look quite as drastic as it does in person, to me at least. And while I absolutely appreciate more toe space, I think for my foot shape, I don't need quite so much extra material around the outside of my pinky toe, which does kind of put it on the border of looking "clownish" (which could certainly be in part of the extra band, I also have the colorway that Eric has). In fact, my partner's first comment was "oh those are pretty wide!", and I've been wearing barefoot shoes for over 10 years now, and not a comment before these shoes hahaha! But I'll give it some time wearing them around the house to see what I really feel, because they are comfortable and stylish as a whole, and even walking around now, kinda quickly growing on me! I think the stiffness and possible thickness of the sole might be helpful for a lot of city walking for extra protection, or as well, maybe a good transition shoe option for people. Appreciate the review from the both of you, lots of good comparisons and points you bring up!
I don't have a pair of these shoes but based off of what I'm seeing from your video and their online information, the shoe looks like it's 99% of what I'm looking for. I would not consider myself a barefoot enthusiast. I want a wide toe box, zero drop shoe that is durable and looks good. I don't care for a super thin flexible sole for "ground feel." I'm mainly just sick of traditional shoes cramming my toes together. So for someone like me, these shoes seem to be absolutely fantastic. The reason these don't hit 100% ideal for me is that I'm not a huge fan of bright white. It's too loud for my taste and gets dirty super easy. I prefer slightly off white. Otherwise, excellent video! Keep it up.
They've got black ones! Haha, might not be what you're looking for color wise. But yeah I think you'd like them, they don't have the thinnest soles, and the toe box is a dream!
Very cool! I still prefer the styling of the Freestyle though. I think maybe the rigidity was on purpose, since it looks more like a skate shoe than even the Freestyle does, so something more heavy duty might suit those kinds of activities more, just at the cost of a little flexibility and maybe a bit thicker in the sole. They still look like a nice option for those looking for that kind of thing. I don't mind the toe box on my Freestyles (the same Pine colour shown in the video), I'm used to how goofy barefoot shoes look now. XD
I like “the more”ergonomic & anatomical and oblique toebox. Do you know if they are wider than the; WYDE FOOTWEAR-?, I believe they’re made in Portugal. Something you can play basketball in. also will they be coming in high top? Thanks in advance for your outstanding feedback.
Never heard of Wyde before! Checked out the website, just based off of looks those seem wider than the Splay honestly but obviously we can't say for sure. We'll have to reach out and see if we can get some to compare. And we're not sure about a high top, though a Splay high top has been a dream of ours for a long time now, so we're keeping our fingers crossed
Thanks for the analytical display and exhibit and the handling of the footwear, the static photographs that are on the site! doesn’t do justice to it what you and your brother are doing is outstanding thanks again
@@sonsofsever thanks for the quick reply. I guess I’m not missing out then. Follow up question- how was the heel on the new street style slip in from splay? Same as these, or a little wider?
@@jakeoldham9136 I think the last they used was the same, but since the Streetstyle is canvas its more pliable and doesn't feel as constricting on my heel, definitely a little comfier
@@lukefromowitz4514 the flexibility of a splay will beat just about anything most of the time. The 101 is definitely a little stiffer than we’re used to from splay, but still beats out a majority of other companies
It's been a long time since I've been in Vans now and my foot has green about 1.5 sizes since then... So I can't say haha, sorry. We went true to our current normal size and that worked perfectly.
The website just says "soft, high quality leather." It definitely feels nice, we'll have to try and get Rose Anvil to cut it up and burn it just to see how good of leather it actually is haha
So sad that they made the toe area more rounded. A healthy thumb does not curve. The previous form may not have looked so ordinary but was much healthier. It's sad that another brand is giving up and making shoes like everyone else. Now it's just another Barebaric
I’d have to disagree. Because of the taper, I find that my toe is plenty able to push out to the middle like it’s supposed to. They didn’t change the inside of the shoe, they changed the way the outside of the foot tapers
It's just the length of the big toe less than the width of the big toe. It looks so much better this way and is still a very wide toe box. What kills me is how narrow the midfoot is of these shoes. These are wide toe box shoes, but not wide shoes

i can only recommend also Merle. It has both barefoot and city style anatomical shoes (meaning thicker under the heel)
Great video. I'm gonna buy a pair. Take it easy.

I’ve had 2 pairs of splays for almost a year now, I was super surprised by how good they were for the price. Like barefoot Vans

Used your affiliate link for this, hope it helps. I got the blazer colorway. I think that this is a good looking shoe no matter what color you get.
@@jurkjaredgamez8392 you’re gonna love them. Probably one of my top five shoes that I wear right now.
I'm gonna try them, since I skateboard and all skateboard shoes are narrow
We would love to hear how these do from someone who actually skates! Give us an update!
Thank you for the review, I have been curious about them! Does the new style have a little bit more volume in the toe box?
Feels like it for sure

How does the sizing of this compare to the freestyle (v1)?
@@luiza177music we went true to size with the Freestyle V1 and these, same size in both, we haven't had any issues with Splay and sizing.
So what I'm hearing is that it might make for a good mtb shoe? Stiffer, a little better protection etc
Neither of us mountain bike, but if a good mountain bike shoe is flat, leather, and somewhat stiffer than other barefoot shoes, then yes 😂
Did the heel get more comfortable over time? I found the heel to be too narrow with insoles and without
It's broken in a little, so I don't notice it as much as I used to, but it's definitely still something I feel when compared to other shoes.

The new Freestyle 2.0 colors are terrible. I have the first version and really like it.
True to size compared to what you wear in lems and vivobarefoot?
@@RagnarHoff Yes, true to size for what we get in Lems, not 100% on Vivo, we've only tried one pair from them and it was too big.
@@sonsofsever Thanks. That helps as i found Vivo to wear very long as well. Lems is a perfect fit.

Looks like PU leather ( Polyurethane) fake leather? and the rippling and wavy wear lines of the toe box and sides are a no go for me. Hard Pass ATM.
