The ATEM TVS is a far older model than the ATEM Mini line. Hopefully it will get refreshed soon! Thank you for the video though, I wonder if I should get one from second hand market.
Thank you very much for this, as I was considering it. However, the recording issue is of concern. I wonder whether they will be upgrading this model, as they seem to be upgrading everything else. Thanks for the time & effort you put into this production; it is appreciated.
@@allthat_media Internal video scaling refers to a hardware feature that adjusts the resolution of video input to match the display output. It ensures that the video fits the screen correctly, either upscaling or downscaling the image without external devices.
I think that is great, but still needs some features that the ATEM mini/SDI have plus some other for the price. The three screens would be realy usefull for a preview, current and a menu. Also 10Gb Ethernet, streaming (as the inferior models) and two 10Gb USB-C for control, webcam, external recording and custom transitions.
Thanks for the review. What about the fan noise? I really need to know that it is quiet, since I mix audio live while switching, so silence is a must. Thanks.
Great review! I have a question, though! Are the SDI Outputs from 1 to 8 programmable and if not - what are they outputting - the source from the corresponding input or it's just PGM/PVW return?
Hi, great video thanks a lot. I'm waiting to receive the product. You have mentioned that we can record the full program on a SSD. Can you tell me how it work and how to connect it ? I have a BM video assist 12G HDR to help. Thanks a lot
Interesting comment at around 8 minutes about the "taking away from functionality" - concerning the addition of the DaVinci Resolve project/recording. Correct me if I'm wrong... but this switcher came out a couple of years before the ATEM Mini (and then the extreme/pro upgrades) and they've actually not done a refresh of this line since? If they ever do though I'd expect that they add that feature. A solution to record all this, especially if you want to do any re-cutting after the fact is to use the many SDI's out so you can loop them into recorders as well as record the main output. Annoying I know, having to buy multiple recorders but at the time it made sense until they realised they could do it all in the USB-C like with the mini's.
I was hoping to use the ATEM's 8 individual SDI Outputs as SDI Looputs so I could use 4 of the outs into a Atomos Sumo recorder's 4 SDI Inputs ISO recordings, but it appears the ATEM's outputs only show Program output back to BMD cameras.
@@driftwoodtv Ahhh, you might be right there. I forget that we used to have the Blackmagic Videohub 20x20 - thus allowing us to loop back/re-route any inputs/outputs we'd like. It's quite annoying that the Videohub is almost as costly as the ATEM. Maybe they could add the feature of remapping the SDI's out in the next version.
@@driftwoodtv Check the manual, but I think you can set them to either loop or PGM output (with talkback). It was a feature on the ATEM TVS HD, if I remember correctly.
This type of switcher is designed to process very high quality image material. To get the most out of it, everything from the camera to the data storage must meet the same high standards. If you want to preserve the image quality reasonably well, you can work with the ProRes 442 format. For 2160P60 this requires a data flow of 1320 Mbit/s. One hour of video requires about 580 GB of data storage. Due to the large amount of data, SD cards are not suitable for this. However, it is possible to loop the eight inputs to eight synchronised Hyperdeck Studio 4K Pro recorders. These recorders work with SSD. Due to the synchronised time code, processing in a video editing programme is easy - provided your computer is powerful enough. If you work with 1080P, you can also work with the cheaper versions of the Hyperdeck which do work with SD cards. Then, too, synchronisation is possible.
Question: I’m looking at getting 1 of these for several PTZ 4k cameras and BM4k camera. The PTZS output 4K over HDMI. Do you foresee any problem with converting multiple (6) HDMI signals to SDI inputs?
Why you video is not 4K quality if switcher is 4K? Also can you livestream 4K with it or it just records 4K. Also which cameras are capable or advised for this switcher in order to function with full capacity?
Hi. I am trying to get a counter or clock on one of the boxes in the live view. Can't figure how to do it on the Software control. Seen it at one location but can not figure it out.
Hello! Thank u for the review. I wonder what's the difference in terms of the input scaler between the ATEM Mini series and the 4K tv studio pro. It's been told that the ATEM Mini series switchers have a built in scaler which is not available on some of the bm high end switchers.
Question on the outputs. I have been working with this switcher for about a month. Is there anyway to have the 1-8 outs to be reprogram to a separate program ? The use case would be the desire to have imag on the auditorium projector but that imag to not be the same as the broadcast out?
@@shelbyhanneman you are correct. But to clarify in the switcher software or the hard panel you can easily "switch" which input that aux receives. Ie you can have graphics on screen then click camera 1 and have that up or your program feed and have that live on your screens.
@@chadhxc Hmmm I am going to have to play with that. That might help us for some rare times we want the program feed to be different from our middle screen in front of house
Please do a part 2 in depth review of this switcher.. i'm waiting....

All the sdi outputs above each input are program only just another fyi for renters. And they cannot be programmed (currently)

You didn't talk about the internal scaling feature! I also pair this with an atem mini pro for recording and streaming.
That’s a good point about the atem mini - can also use that for the usb-c output into vmix or obs
Could I ask about the internal scaling? I'd like to know what it is! :)

Awesome video. Do you mind sharing the name or link to the HDMI to SDI adapter you're using.
Does it have supersource?

Thanks for such a thorough breakdown. Answered my main question, how to record it all!
Which cameras are you using for this video? It looks great!
Awesome video & Thanks :)
Great work! Curious if this shot was green screened?
Can you we stream directly from the Blackmagic ATEM TV Studio Pro 4K Switcher?

Replying to myself because I just checked, it is not possible to switch to loop output. I must have thought of another product. :x

What are you using to capture your recording out of the Atem television studio pro .
Can you ajust something from the switcher for any cameras models or only Blackmagic camera ? Not the focus... but iris, color or other ?
Any luck of a video tut with PTZ camera controls with atem studio pro?
Can you change the output destinations or are they all set to program?

Are there other 4k video switchers that also have HDMI inputs/outputs?
