I messed up the editing with the final rating being wrong and in the middle of the video. Was playing with my daughter while editing. Sorry about that.
Those hand pegs are one of life's great misteries. How could they have made the most gigantic sword in the world, that's as big as the entire figure. And then make the tinniest peg you've ever seen in your life. It's so absurd that it feels like someone did it on purpose.
Man, I was hesitant to buy Ares from storm collectibles . I felt it was a bit expensive, but as soon as I saw his review and he gave it a 9, it made me buy it the same time😂.
Thanks Anthony for curbing my addiction. I usually buy everything whether it’s Marvel Legends, Hot Toys, or Sh Figuarts. I spent a lot of money and out of display right now. You gave me an excuse not to buy and be more selective.
It’s especially sad since he’s such a beloved character. I don’t get how random side characters get the deluxe treatment from Bandai and Guts is treated like this.
Usually when a super popular licensed figure turns out shit, its because the company rushed its production at the expense of everything else. With Bandai, who knows what theyre thinking.
I love Berserk but everything he said is true. The way I had to pose it so it looks good is to make him hold the sword facing down so he could stand. But this is definitely not worth the amount of money they were asking for it. It truly makes me sad and hope the Heat of Passion armor they’re releasing next year has these problems fixed.
I picked this up when I was in Japan a month ago, most anticipated figure I was grabbing when I was there, and I was HORRIBLY disappointed. The wrist situation is actually the most baffling mistake I've ever seen on a figure
Reminds me of the super small wrist joints on the first Sentinel Master Chief. But at least they fixed that on the next version, and all the other engineering on the figure was pretty awesome. This is like a straight up rookie mistake; doesn't make any sense from a company as experienced as Bandai.
Mine arrived from Hobby search, with broken ankle, it was already broken in the box. Then his backpack, snapped off when I try to move it, mind you i didn't not force it. Just barely touched it
I was so disappointed with guts. Cannot hold a sword fts. Not only that but my wrist peg broke with the lightest pressure. Shout out to hobby genki for getting me a replacement btw. What makes the whole situation even more crazy is Griffith is really well done. Aesthetically amazing with tight joints and a nice plush material cape. I don’t know how they managed such a contrast
Just talked about this on my channel the other day. For $100 there’s no excuse for the QC issues either. The left knee on mine came stuck and can only bend at the bottom part of the joint. They really dropped the ball on this one. I appreciate the paint and attention to detail but like you said. This figure is NOT fun to handle. A nightmare in hand.
This is genuinely heartbreaking to see. I adore berserk and would’ve loved to had a Guts figure on my shelf. The original Guts figma figures were just outta reach in terms of price but this Guts, if everything was quality and handled well, was gonna be 100% worth the asking price to me as a Berserk fan. So sad to see how this figure turned out and to hear too the Griffith figure is actually good, I can’t understand for the life of me why S.H Figurarts made the poor quality control decisions they did here. Really bummed out about all of this.
I found many of the same issues upon my first handling of the figure, but I'll do you one better: whatever adhesive was used to secure the forward facing crotch piece to the posterior facing crotch piece came undone. My figure fell apart like it was taking a giant plastic shit as the legs, posterior, and both left & right side pouches fell apart simultaneously. I gorilla glued the crotch back together (without the pouches) & it now has MUCH better mobility & honestly doesn't look any worse IMO. Then I had to dremel out a larger hole for the sword-gripping hand. Now it functions at least passably.
In hindsight I'm kind of glad I missed the initial pre-order window. Was kicking myself at first, because I assumed Tamashii would bring their A-game for a property like this. It's hard to imagine what happened while they were designing this thing. The wrist pegs in particular are absolutely baffling, it's like the worst possible choice. Maybe they had to rush it out to meet some sort of deadline?
Yeah he's definitely one for the books, hyped up to be this masterpiece of design and has a full on article about it...then becomes one of the most frustrating things to handle. It's like early Yamaguchi modeling.
For anyone wanting to fix the proportions tony mei has a really good tutorial on lengthening the torso. But I agree for the price this is unacceptable. I wish storm had the berserk licence.
My figure doesn't have any loose or overly tight joints, the cape is not that bad after posing it around a little. I agree the shoulders joints (just like what they did to one piece Luffy) and wrist peg are so bad. I also have the Griffith, I was surprised by it after seeing what they did to Guts figure. Griffith figure is actually good, no weird shoulders and the armor doesn't really hinder the articulation that much.
I treat my figures in a sort of Smash Bros mentality. As long as everything is in a rough scale or vibe with each other, I like them looking appropriate to their origins. That being said, Kentaro Miura was one of the best draftsmen in manga and it disappointing that a level of care didnt go to the translating the figure with a high degree of excellence in proportions and sculpting. Im an avid fan of the Shinkocchou Seihou Kamen Rider SHF and their proportions and sculpt are immaculate. A lot of the DBZ figures speak for themselves. But this level of execution and engineering feels like its from almost a decade ago.
Threezero made a really nice Guts in Berserker Armor figure. It's probably the best one ever. I have it and it is awesome. Excellent sculpt, articulation, and decent accessories (better accessories if it's the limited edition). The only issue is that it it 1/6 scale so if you're only looking for 1/12 it's not going to fit in your collection.
I was a hair away from buying this SH Figuarts Guts figure, the comic shop I buy a lot of my figures had four of them and they had one VToys Knight of War for roughly the same price. I’m so happy I bought the Knight of War figure instead because it does everything this Guts figure does but infinitely better including the way it holds its own Buster sword
I feel bad for myself, I bought this figure in pre order version cuz i saw the the promo imagines and i thought “It will be good cuz S.H figuartd”. One of my biggest mistakes i have ever done in my life. Thank you for your review anthony!!
Also, studio Gaga (the creator of Berserk’s assistant team and current team drawing the manga) apparently had a big part to play in how this figure turned out.

I’ve had the figure for a couple months now, and you’re definitely right about a lot of your points, Anthony. The cape is trash, the wrist pegs are ridiculous, shoulder is terrible, and the figure is finicky as hell. However, I do like it in general. Although, berserk is my favourite property. So, I might be looking at it subjectively. I will say though, in the manga, guts is drawn with pretty long arms. So, that might be accurate to the source material :P I have Griffith too, and luckily he’s a significantly better figure. But, I worry for the new berserker armour figure that is on preorder. Seems like it reuses a bunch of parts off of this figure.
I am worried about the new figure also. The promo pics shows leg articulation better than any Spiderman figure. I cannot see how if they use the same legs as this figure being reviewed.
I pre ordered it cause finally a berserk guts figure that doesn't cost as much as my rent. Sadly though this review reflects my thoughts exactly. To me it looks decent enough in a neat enough pose. But that's just it. This figure is just enough and could have been way better. I found that the collar piece is actually two parts poorly glued together when they separated while I was fitting it back on with the crazy thick cape on. I was quite annoyed when I wanted to swap the hands and realized i couldn't until I drilled out the holes to fit the pegs. But sigh because it's the first ever berserk figure I have I'm just happy to have it.
He CAN rest the sword on his shoulder. But you'll curse a hundred times, the wrist peg will unplug a dozen times, the knife on his belt will fall off 6 times, and once you get it all in place finally, the figure will fall over because the ankles are too loose.
your saying exactly what i feel, i paid 100 dollars for this cause i love guts but damn i was very disappointed! not sure if i should cancel my berserker armor one...sad
Always thought the proportions looked off when compared to the Figma. Can at least salvage some of the looks by doing Tony Mei's mod to extend the torso with some plastic tubes so the arms don't look so long.
It's beyond me that companies can't seem to figure out how to make a shoulder articulated. Integrate it with the chest, have the entire shoulder be a moving unit that folds into and out of the shoulder area (like I don't know, a butterfly?), something other than Japanese companies with double ball joints and Hasbro with their weird orb shoulder that gives you maybe 1mm of extra arm movement. I feel like this has been figured out and implemented before but Tamashii is still fiddling around with double ball joint abominations on a 9500Y/ $120 figure.
I got this figure on the day of release and was worried that maybe it was an issue because mine was such an early production figure. I don’t know how I feel I’m kind of relieved that it’s not just mine but I’m concerned that it shows the qc is horrible. I got Griffith about a month ago and that figure is fantastic, no qc issues what so ever.
While I was trying to pose the figure I was so frustrated that I thought the intention of the designers was to transmit the desolation that Guts himself feel in his deadly journey….. PD mine came with broken knees
Heat actually wasn't enough for me to be able to get the sword hand on. I had to file that tiny peg down even smaller, and then it couldn't support the weight of the sword. I've ended up just gluing that hand on. The cape does a lot to help the aesthetics for the proportions. Overall I like the look of the figure, but that's it. The joints are terrible. Pieces fall off all the time. this is the only SHF I've regretted buying. Which sucks because I love Berserk.
Man it feels like Revoltech could probably do a better job. Yeah it would probably have the weird looking shoulders and the stylized look of the fgures but usually make muscular characters look good The horrible shoulders reminds me of that Figma doom figure you reviewed a while ago, why are shoulders on armored characters usually designed horribly? Loke they shrink the shoulders and make them extreme flat which makes the shoulders look horrible once you liift the shoulder pads and stuff like that
Super late but I agree with everything expect the cape, that’s the way miura drew his art using the motion lines. The only time it’s solid black is when he’s still which isn’t a lot or when he’s in the dark. It’s hatching that miura did a lot and they tried to replicate it
Holy shit, I didn't think the figure would look this bad, the proportion is terrible, it looks like he's a monkey with armor, and the fact that his shoulder joint design literally does nothing is what pissed me off, this is a figure that i was very hyped for, because it came from one of my favorite manga, i wanna bought this to honor kentora miura legacy, but instead, we got this abomination
I had to cancel my pre order from all the bad reviews. Im so disappointed hopefully we all can let sh figurearts know that they need to cancel production on these and get a better version asap please!!
I know you say you dont have time to do much other than reviews lately which is why you haven't worked on your own line of figures, and I know you do "photoshop" fixes in some cases, but I would really love to see a "How to fix" series where you pick a figure, and from an toy engineering POV, how you would correct the issues. Maybe once a month or every other month. I know you explain some of that during the review but a more in-depth look I think would be cool. One of the main reasons I liked your channel was for the action figure customizing, but since you're not doing that anymore some educational content like that I think would be worth watching.
Bought him with the intention to make a Vyke vs Guts display and as soon as I tried to place his holding hand onto the wrist peg I was scared to handle it since it feels so fragile than most SH Figs. Immediately put him back in the box 😮💨
And I almost pulled the trigger on this Guts figure. As an avid fan of Tamashii Nations figures, this one is rather disappointing. Instead I purchased three figures from the Four Horseman Studios line-up. Two Mythic Legions and one Cosmic Legions figure for Black Friday. Appreciate the review @AnthonysCustoms 👍.
Welp, looks like I'm sticking to my Figmas with custom wired capes. I was somewhat apprehensive about figuarts getting the license, since they can be very hit and miss. Hopefully the Zodd figure they showed off recently turns out ok, and I'm praying for a Skull Knight figure to get released at some point too.
I’m hoping that they do an entire overhaul and fix everything for the heat of passion Guts figure, cause this sucked I was so excited to get this guy and I was disappointed I don’t even wanna mess with him I just left him in the best pose I could
Skipped this and preordered the fully armored version, will still probably have the same probelms in the shoulder but since it'll be all black figured it would looked better and it doesnt have all those straps and buckle so probably wouldnt be as finicky, the all black color also help hides the LONG arm better just hope that the joints will be tight enough and the wrist fits better since they have different hand sculpts
It's so sad too, this was easily my most hype release this year only for it to crash and burn. I cancelled my preorder after I got my friend's in hand and it felt so bad and I saw a ton of people talking about theirs breaking. So disappointing. I can only pray his proper berserker form is better. I want this line to succeed.
I have this figure and I really wanted to like it. Let me repeat myself, I really really WANTED to like it so it pains me to see that it turned out the way it did. I'm willing to overlook the super long arms cuz they give Guts almost a kinda exaggerated Go Nagai character look so that's not a huge deal to me, but the engineering, you are so spot on it hurts. All I could think is "Why why why?" as I'm even doing something as simple as holding the figure. It feels cheap, like a bootleg. And the worst part is I don't want to get rid of it. I like it enough, but at the same time, that's not "good enough". This not the level of quality I expect to be getting from something with the Tamashii Seal of Approval, and it stings even more that it's present in a figure of a such a beloved series. My disappointment can not be overstated. Sorry, for the rant, I just want to let you know you're far from alone on this.
Glad didn't bought it. Was so tempted on the promo pictures and it was around $60 to $70 pre-order but then suddenly after the release it sky rocketed to $120 to $130 so decided not to get it anymore because even i really like the berserk but the price just sent me off and glad i waited for your review. I'm going to buy Figma Demon Souls Fluted armor instead and I think it's much better, given both having almost same pricepoint. Thanks Anthony
i swear when Import companies do big strong characters like Guts they’re usually just kinda hit or miss like his anatomy on the arms barley resembles the art and even if you can hit cool poses it just doesn’t work for me
me when android knees: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH KILL IT WITH FIRE me when guts shoulder: *AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH KILL IT WITH BIGGER FIRE*
My plan was to sell my Threezero Berserker armor limited to finance the future berserk figures of the Tamashii's line. I am glad I canceled my pre order just after the first reviews appeared. You just confirmed even more harshly what I felt about this fig.
@@omegashenron8 Yeah I agree with you, it's a great piece and I know now that I should keep it. I was lucky enough to get it at retail price during one of their events. I still can't figure what went through my mind some months ago when I was considering selling it...
Sigh… this was one of my most anticipated figures ever..idk what the hell the people over at tamashii were thinking. They messed up so bad with the main mf of the line. How am i going to want the rest? The wrist pegs not being ball pegs for a character with a big ass sword is insanee. I also freaking hate the hard plastic they used for the straps on his chest. Makes it feel scary to handle. They always do soft plastic for things like that so idk what happened here. Really hope they listened to complaints and the full berserker armor figure will be much better. Only thing i can give this figure is it at least looks beautiful.
Damn, I have this in my loot pile from BBT. Almost cancelled it a moment ago after seeing your review. I cannot unsee the long ass arms and the ugly armpits now. Only keeping it at this point for the head sculpts. Hopefully I can use them with the other Berserk S.H.Figuarts Guts (Berserker Armor -Heat of Passion-) when they release it.
It’s an incredible figure sculpt wise man, and they just had to go and fuck up basically everything else. Super scared for the Berserker Armor now, glad I didn’t pre-order.
Ive lost his sword pommel and i need to glue his right hand in so he can only hold his sword, i love figuarts but ive had bad luck with figures breaking or loosing parts
Not into Berserk so I wasn't gonna get it and saw everyone who did get it were immensely disappointed. Can tell this review will be comedy gold just from how infuriating of a figure this is. That Darwin photo was gold.
I know this was a big let down but the new one with the the full armor is pretty awesome! Still not perfect while holding the sword with one hand but it is amazing other than that. A little pricy but i guess that’s to be expected now a days
this comes to show that you should never give into the hype train of any figure before it comes out. The pre order for this was over $100 simply bc it's berserker, I'd prefer to get a blank custom body with better quality for $30-$50.
Why is the flesh elbow such an obviously different color? Like the joints everywhere else seem like they're trying to emulate the color but the elbow is so noticeable!
Totally agree. The moment i unbox mine and try to put on the cloak, I’m just so annoyed with the cloak. The next part is the LONG ARM. Wtf is that about. And the leg is so loose. I owned the other 3 figma. And they are so much better!
Damn, I've never seen so many issues with an shfiguarts. Its not like Trunks which is mostly QC issues this one has engineering and R&D issues, it looks like it was designed by amateurs this is crazy
lol, i had to extend the torso on my copy. some comments before the release telling that it was based on Miura's design. wtf. i doubt Miura sensei would design Guts to have very long arms
The hand pegs are definitely the worst, but I genuinely believe that most peoples problems are due to not understanding how the figure works, It’s my favorite figure this year and everything works for me, maybe there’s Bias because the manga is genuinely the greatest thing I’ve ever experienced
Yeah, that figure has a strange weird, sculpt 😮 Question Anthony! I notice companies are going this route now, instead of using more of the head sculpts. They're using these swop out face plates which I am not a fan of! So are face plates cheaper to manufacture vs. producing the traditional head sculpts????
I have the figure in my pile of loot. When I saw event photos, it looked very strange, and the initial reviews justified the horrible shoulder design in favor of great mobility (which clearly I now see is not the case). The shoulders are even worse than the Figma Doom guy. Regarding the proportions, it looks very odd, but supposedly, the work was commissioned to a reputable sculptor in Japan who sculpts figures starting from the skeleton. I'm hesitant to cancel this figure now; it's so disappointing.
I've heard Griffith doesn't have the same issues with the joints and has more standard shoulder joints. I'm hoping by the time the heat of passion version releases, they'll have these issues fixed
I messed up the editing with the final rating being wrong and in the middle of the video. Was playing with my daughter while editing. Sorry about that.
I just thought we were getting neck articulation ratings now and I was excited for it!
Spending time with your kid is a good reason to make an editing blunder dont worry we forgive you
Ngl that jumpscared me a little bit lol
So what's the overall rating?

Yeah it would probably have the weird looking shoulders and the stylized look of the fgures but usually make muscular characters look good
The horrible shoulders reminds me of that Figma doom figure you reviewed a while ago, why are shoulders on armored characters usually designed horribly?
The Shoulder made me Audibly Gasp
I have plans for stuff like that when i have time. My 18 month old says i don't have the time right now though
I can't believe I can unironically say that Bandai would've produced a better action figure of Guts if it was in model kit form
I’m hoping that they do an entire overhaul and fix everything for the heat of passion Guts figure, cause this sucked I was so excited to get this guy and I was disappointed I don’t even wanna mess with him I just left him in the best pose I could
I think medicos would do good with the berserk liscense
I'd like Kaiyodo to make an Amazing Yamaguchi.
@@Zakjuh thatd also be great!
Absolutely, i just bought the Thouzer figure of Hokuto no ken and it's great.
S.h. does not learn. They just want a quick buck.
@@terryflaps4492 I wouldn't say all that, I genuinely just think they are taking on too many lines at once.
@@DummyTenshi that might be true but someone decided to release this because they knew a bunch of people would buy it any way cause its guts.
Maaaaaan, I was really looking forward to owning a Guts figure now i’m thinking about cancelling my pre orders
Thanks Anthony
i swear when Import companies do big strong characters like Guts they’re usually just kinda hit or miss like his anatomy on the arms barley resembles the art and even if you can hit cool poses it just doesn’t work for me
me when android knees: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH KILL IT WITH FIRE
me when guts shoulder: *AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH KILL IT WITH BIGGER FIRE*
I have this, i really want to like it, but i just can’t! Basically all the pegs in this figures needs to be redesigned just to function
My plan was to sell my Threezero Berserker armor limited to finance the future berserk figures of the Tamashii's line. I am glad I canceled my pre order just after the first reviews appeared. You just confirmed even more harshly what I felt about this fig.
I wouldn't if I were you. That figure is sick and I wish I had the funds for it.
Hopefully the beserker armor is much better
The extra hands for the right arm don't fit on the pegs... so I can't put the sword. Does anyone have the same problem?
Everyone...i talked about it in the video
Damn, I have this in my loot pile from BBT. Almost cancelled it a moment ago after seeing your review. I cannot unsee the long ass arms and the ugly armpits now. Only keeping it at this point for the head sculpts. Hopefully I can use them with the other Berserk S.H.Figuarts Guts (Berserker Armor -Heat of Passion-) when they release it.
Appreciate you making this! Helped me dodge a very expensive bullet.
It’s an incredible figure sculpt wise man, and they just had to go and fuck up basically everything else. Super scared for the Berserker Armor now, glad I didn’t pre-order.
Guts smiling and laughing had me dying 😂
Mine even came with a broken leg. Gluing it might be the only solution now
Ive lost his sword pommel and i need to glue his right hand in so he can only hold his sword, i love figuarts but ive had bad luck with figures breaking or loosing parts
the cape is great, just squeeze it and pose it
I've said it before, about how Bandai's promo pics are too dark because they were hiding the ugliness of this figure. People say I was crazy
Thanks dude, im such a huge Berserk fan
Bandai should know that if they keep cutting corners, they’ll keep going in circles!
Storm Collectibles should've gotten this license instead
That would be great
Honestly the Naruto line is the best one Tamashii has put out right now
All of the Naruto figures released this year are excellent
I agree
Nah Gundam and Saint Seiya are their top notchs
pretty new to imports and i bought this new Guts, the figure is so fragile it feels like I'm holding legos.
This is the most baffling shoulder joint I've ever seen on an action figure.
The cape looks like somebody's wig blown in the wind..😆😅🤣😂😄😝
im glad i held off...im happy with the ones i have from a long time ago
I'm so glad miss PO this figure because forgot the last date to finished the PO..and change it to shf son go ku.
Long arms are okay when the figure has armor or has bulky outfit/torso.
i remember when Guts said "if they fuck up my figure like they did the anime I'll go Berserk."
lol, i had to extend the torso on my copy. some comments before the release telling that it was based on Miura's design.
wtf. i doubt Miura sensei would design Guts to have very long arms
I'm glad i skipped it. My figma Guts Black Swordsman will do just fine even if it's older and a bit flawed
" you dont have to do all this weird 💩 " what she said 😂
Its infuriating when the guts got fumbled but griffith didnt and they got human zodd and schierke and makes me hesitant on getting them
The hand pegs are definitely the worst, but I genuinely believe that most peoples problems are due to not understanding how the figure works, It’s my favorite figure this year and everything works for me, maybe there’s Bias because the manga is genuinely the greatest thing I’ve ever experienced
Might be. I don't have trouble understanding how figures work. This one is just bad.
Haven't heard Anthony this frustrated since the mcfarlane MK11 Scorpion and Sub Zero reviews. I agree with all the things mentioned.
Did you order this from WISH?
I've heard Griffith doesn't have the same issues with the joints and has more standard shoulder joints. I'm hoping by the time the heat of passion version releases, they'll have these issues fixed
